Keep bicycling! I’m retired, so walk twice a day for an hour or so around the neighborhood to keep the back problems away.
I do enjoy thinking about rulesets, particularly coming up with ones that are alternatives to rolling dice. Walking gives me time to think about them. Never act on them, because, when I get home, I have those mini’s to paint. 😛
From the thread title, I thought the question would be about our Holy Grail of rulesets. (: Might be worth a question in a later Weekender. Here’s what I’m looking for in a ruleset:
* Uses my existing miniatures: Ends up being generic fantasy.
* Solo play: Give me time to interrupt the game and paint miniatures.
* Campaign narrative: Five Leagues from the Borderlands is as close as I’m getting.
* Magic: Sellswords and Spellslingers is looking good, although Fireballs dominate the game.
* Create your own units: Song of Gold and Darkness lets you create your own units, using a point system.
* AI: Sellswords and Spellslingers cheats (: by having Event cards throw bad guys from out of nowhere, so there’s no AI that you can outsmart.
Might give Lasting Tales a shot, then Altar Quest, although I don’t expect them to have what I’m looking for in a “one set of rules to rule them all”.
