day’s done, but of course no assembly …
first spent half the day waitin’ for the stuff to arrive at my door (spoilers : it did arrive 😉 )
I also got the ‘night terrors’ kickstarter from Crooked Dice. That’s a fair few bits of pre-coloured mdf-terrain to assemble in the future.
And then my pc decided to show it is about to die as it simply stopped responding to anything.
Not a good thing, but luckily it somehow managed to boot up again.
Checking my receipts I discovered my pc is +/- 9 years old. It did get an upgrade to storage and graphics about halfway through. So I think it’s about time to replace ye olde beast and get me a new one.
Initial idea was to buy a ready-made pc … but when I saw the price I figured I’d see what it would cost to do it myself.
Turns out, not that much cheaper either. I do have to shop around quite a bit more, because I’ve noticed that the shops sell even less goodies than they used to. Heck, can’t even buy internal blu-ray/dvd-drives these days.
And of course trying to guess which cpu is fast is rather difficult as companies have yet again switched to a new naming convention. So I did what I’ve been doing more: I asked Claude.AI
Sure beats trying to use google for any useful info these days.
Mind you … you do need to pay attention as the thing will happily use outdated references. It told me that one of the options would be coming out in March 2025. It didn’t even understand it was a bit later than that in real life.
There’s still a few kinks to work out in the list that it helped create, but at least I got some semblance of a picking list (< 3000 Euro, no new graphics card).
As per usual I hit the maximum limit for conversations, but as I said … I got enough data to go my own route.
