So one really nice feature on BoW/OTT was and is the world map for “places”. Makes it easy to look up where to game in your area or where to shop.

But now that an not insignificant portion of companies that produce hobby stuff has an additional barrier to go through *cough*Brexit*cough* I find myself more often looking at the question “Is that a company ‘local’ to me and easy to source or will that be a nightmare with shipping.” And it’s hard to figure out at times because some companies hide their “We are here” info very well.

So I propose to the team (listen up @warzan and all) to make a map with all know manufacturers similar to the places map.

    Please?

I am interested in such a map.

I’m been mislead a few times by companies that offer a USA web page, (verses UK or Euro), but then ship from across the pond.  I understand that to get what I want I will have to pay extra if it’s from out of country, but it would be nice to know up front from where it’s coming and how long of a wait I’ll be experiencing.

Also when there is a local partner distributing stuff you usually don’t have to worry about import duties, taxes and horrendous shipping fees 😉

The places section includes stores I just don’t think any stores, I think it would just be a case of people populating it. That section is like game reviews I think, anyone can input into it

I’ll see if manufacturer can be added but if not Store may just be the way to go

What we will do is add a geo field to the  manufacter database and then pull them into the mapping area. @tgu3 @avernos

Great idea guys ill tap @commodorerob to see if we can get the community to help us map out the manufacturers etc

It’s possible that the reasons companies don’t make a big deal of where they are situated are the same reasons some of you have stated above. They want to build a global customer base, and don’t want to dissuade you from purchasing by declaring they are UK, EU, US based or wherever. Especially if they have local distributors in other locations, so it doesn’t matter that the main office is half a world away.

You may be best to contact the company in advance if you are interested in the product, but want to avoid unwelcome shipping delays or charges. Then you’ll get the right info, rather than estimating based on a dot on the map.

OTT could ask manufacturers to host shipping info on the site in a manufacturers database, if the makers aren’t providing it on their own website.
