A lot of people seem to be using acrylic inks to achieve cool effects with airbrushes, or make custom washes.

Exploring adding some to my painting Arsenal.

Any advice on which are most suitable.

Seen liquitex and F&W in dropper bottles, but there’s also “soft” body options, and what appears to be metallics.

Any suggestions on good products/colours and even suppliers would be much appreciated

liquitex or F&W are both fine, I have a mix just based on what I could lay my hands on in shops when I wanted them.

So whichever is easier to get matey, supplier wise I just google it and have a browse.

Hey @avernos if I remember correctly, you used inks to paint the OTT set of ‘Marvel: Crisis Protocol’ miniatures.  Did you film any of that process?  I’ve tried a couple of times to search the OTT site but have come up empty.

You inspired me to try inks, (I foolishly ran out and bought 22 different colors because I couldn’t choose which to not buy), and have now experienced painting paralysis.  I’ve been looking for a good vid demoing the use of inks.

Help me Gerry-wan OTT your my only hope!  ??

I haven’t yet, but I shall see what I can do, it may be a while for an official Gerry Can because  they’re queued up for a while, but I’ll try to do one tomorrow and throw a link in here

For washes, search on Les Bursley’s (?) wash recipes. These are available commercially under license through Secret Weapon Miniatures washes. I highly recommend Stone if you have any dungeons to paint.

If you don’t have access to a FLGS for hobby paints, and don’t want to pay shipping for hobby paints, inks are an inexpensive way to experiment with colors. You can also use them as thinner with hobby paints, when you don’t want water (eg. you want a saturated color). I’d fiddle with them on top of a basecoat of a similar color, maybe use them as a shade.

I’m not sure which inks on Amazon to recommend. I went to Michael’s with a coupon and picked up a Basic Liquitex Ink set to start with.
