    Ladies and Gentlefolks, hello! Welcome to the Hobby Weekender.

    This is a somewhat niche thread on BoW that acts as a weekly painting support group, social thread and friendship circle where all are welcome. We have a host, participants, meaningless points, awards, and post pictures and music. It is a little silly, not to everyone’s taste, but is fun and I encourage everyone to participate. My intention is to make the thread as friendly, welcoming and inclusive as possible.

    So, we start with a pledge, and post pictures of our work and post up music as well from there. Also, I act, or the host rather, as an arbitrator. Such a serious word! So the host moderates, runs and hosts the thread. They also post up questions to stimulate real conversation so this becomes as real as possible, as if you were at a club or friends painting night. That way we get to know each other better and have conversation going on as well, even if our personal lives and hobby time prevent us from immersing ourselves to the degree we could prefer.

    The rules: don’t be a dick. Use your common sense. Keep the swearing and innuendo to a minimum if possible as these posts appear in other users inbox if they subscribe by email to different forums on the site. Also, no religion or politics: it NEVER works. Be supportive, kind and respectful. In turn, we are all positive, encouraging and once more welcoming to all.

    So please pull up a chair and join us. This is not an exclusive club, so join on in! 😉

    Also there are bonuses for the following ‘Achievements’:
    · Most Valuable Player (most engaged with topic)
    · Fire Starter (topic starter, encourages the member circulation)
    · Hobby Champ (most hobby over the weekend)
    · Meme Lord (ryhmes, funnies & memes)
    · Pun-Tertainment (best pun)
    · Brush Licker (painting & terrain)
    · Headliner DJ (most eclectic music)
    · Armchair Commander (weekend battle reports)
    · Community Usher (helpful & engaged)
    · Storyteller (weekly discussion & story)

    This thread will run from today until maybe Wednesday. This weeks thread will not have a theme. Questions will follow. I need to think of some and I have not eaten yet, haha. Breakfast time!

    PS: I tried about five – ten times to post this thread up this morning but it would appear something was up with the site. My internet connection was fine, as are all my devices, so apologies if people are annoyed this is late. Questions to follow later.

    First!

    I can’t believe I just did that… a grown man, typing first and giggling like a small child… I’m ashamed of myself.  I have become everything I detest about the interweb.  Shame, shame, shame!!!!

    @mage Whenever I am typing out something that is very long, I tend to do it in a google doc then copy and paste it in.  Too many times have my fat fingers hit the wrong button or I have close the tab by accident or something bad and BOOM typing gone!  I really want to give you 50pts for persistence but that it your job.  May I suggest you give yourself 50pts instead?

    A follow up to @mage ‘s question from the last thread – I still haven’t decided what to tackle for my spring clean challenge, but I’m leaning towards going back to the Raging Heroes not-Battle Sisters I got from their Toughest Girls In The Galaxy II kickstarter. I think I’ve got the equivalent of 3 line squads of Sisters, a squad of Serpahim, Repentia,  and a smattering of heroes,  so guess I’d better get them built & painted before the official re-working arrives….

    Otherwise I have those two packs of Long Fangs I want to get finished off, the Space Marine Heroes Terminators to work on, and oh yeah, I was weak so picked up Blackstone Fortress in the BOW Backstagers deal.  Guess I’ll have to start on those at some point 🙂

    Other stuff – had the 6th volume in Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle arrive yesterday, and my word does it continue the trend for the BAA world to be simultaneously gorgeous but utterly horrific. I do like though how each volume is more or less alternating – one volume following Alita’s childhood as Yoko with the next featuring the Alita who has survived the events of Last Order. Also had the paperback of Dark Imperium: Plague War come through, with the continuing adventures of Big Bobby G. So far pretty cool. Never thought I’d enjoy reading about a chronically depressed Great Unclean One…

    Oh, and if you happen to be near your Friendly Local Comic Book shop tomorrow May the 4th (be with you) pop in as it’s Free Comic Book Day. Go in, pick up  some of the free books on offer, and maybe buy up a book off the shelf, or really anything to throw them a bit of support 🙂

    They say two heads are better than one …

    I kind of wonder if both would fit

    He’s a few centimeters taller than Mologg and he’s got a bigger bass.

    And as we know :

    Moar music is always cool, right ?

    Well, it’s been quite some time since I was last here…BoW was still on the old site for the last one of these I was part of… I’m glad it’s still going, though, after all this time. It’s this kind of thread that brought me back after all this time; I missed the community.

    Seeings as the rules are the same as they ever were, I suppose I should make a pledge, too. I am VERY behind with my hobbying (still have unopened boxes from years ago) so I think that’ll be my first goal to get building! I’ve got quite a lot that needs to be done including German Grenadiers, British Paras (who will probs end up being Poles), Primaris stuff, Custodian Guard, and a bunch of other things. So building, I think, will be the order of the day…even though I have a lot of grey plastic that needs paint. I might also try and start up a few project logs over the weekend, too, because those were always great ways of getting inspired.

    I do need to get some reading up done, too. I’m a bit rusty on Bolt Action and even rustier on German formations when building up my troops, so that’ll be something to be getting on with.

    It’s good to be back, even if I’m not sure anyone will remember me. 😛

    So I better make a pledge.  Going to work on some terrain bits this weekend and continue on with a few experiments I have started.  My music this weekend is going to be in alphabetical order.

    10 points for being first. And yes, it is satisfying!

    I made sure to save it to a word document to retry throughout the day. It has happened before where I have lost things.

    And I can’t skim off the top with precious, precious points like that!

    @dawfydd <10 points>

    I’d like to see those Raging Heroes, they sound fun.  A small detachment of sisters eh? Still power armour but a break from Astartes

    A gorgeous but horrific world? Sounds damned creative to be honest.

    Plague War I have yet to read. I like the Robot Gorillaman Chronicles.

    Free comic book day and I am at work.

    @limburger <-600 points>

    -600 points for that ghastly pop music that should never have been posted.

    I love the way people are posting what they are doing and not pledging, hahaha.

    @limburger <-590 points>

    As for the Troll if two heads don’t fit then use tools to modify, cut and pare away at the surface so you can fit two. 10 points.

    @sundancer <10 points>

    What is said project? 10 points

    @robert <10 points>

    10 points for making a pledge.

    Welcome back! Hope everything doesen’t feel to alien and different to you, haha. The threads aren’t as big anymore, and dare I say in a non-judgemental way; the site forum seems quieter than before. Maybe it’s a trend or a general thread with forums; who knows? 10 points for being back and 2o for the lengthy pledge.

    We are keeping the fire burning anyway, even if some other members have gone or drifted apart.

    I hope you feel welcome, have fun and enjoy your time with us. Also, deliberately wanted to give you a reply in one post, just for you 😉

    A pledge is good, don’t feel pressure and don’t worry about catch up or even admit that that is a concept. Simply do.

    Ah a mix of historic and sci-fi (a child of two worlds, haha), something I personally don’t see to often. I need to get out more.

    Bolt Action is on 2nd edition? Be sure to post back progress, pics, your thoughts, general chit chat if you can or want to over the coming days, door’s always open 8)

    I barely remember my own name half the time let alone other people’s lol

    @mage :
    It’s my first big monster kit.
    I might consider that if I ever built a second one, but for now I’m keeping it simple.
    I like the one with the tongue sticking out best.
    The other one has a tiny mushroom that’s a bit too fragile.

    //

    Brook city appears to be shipping, but it looks like the neoprene playmat may arrive before the game itself LOL
    Batman is being delivered at a nearby pickup point ‘real soon(tm)’, because I wasn’t at home during the delivery attempt yesterday 🙁

    @crazyredcoat : welcome back. Enjoy the madness that is the hobby weekender thread.

    //

    May 4th … never forget.

    @mage I think most forums have seen a decline over the past number of years.  Facebook, Twitter and Instagram seen to have taken over for discussion on stuff.

    @limuburger <10 points>

    I can see why you would want to be carful and take your time so. Safer to keep it simple. One of the things I consider with delicate parts or interchangeable pieces is ‘will this break if I drybrush or transport this’.

    @robert <10 points>

    Yes, it has taken over discussion, but imho the discussion is not technical or deep, nor does it do the job of creating a community per se. It just tends to be more a place where people are concise or helpful, post pics of their stuff, make witty remarks or post GIFs. In summary I think it is used more, is quicker and more convenient, but nobody is going to write something of enough substance on a small phone sized device nor have a thread power away with a detailed, meaningful discussion. To me, while the groups on said platforms are helpful, they have more DNA in common with a youtube comments section
