    Ernst Tiburzy – “As an ideal example for all brave soldiers, from the thirteen year old Jungvolk volunteers to the old men, was the Königsberger Volkssturm-Bataillonsführer und SA-Hauptsturmführer Ernst Tiburzy. The 34 years old, already seriously wounded East Prussian Tiburzy received the Knight’s Cross on February 10, 1945. Tiburzy was the Bataillonsführer of Volkssturm-Bataillon 25/82 in Festung Königsberg. When the Russians made an armoured assault, Tiburzy knocked out a T-34 with a Panzerfaust. When one of his platoon commanders cowardly tried to escape, Tiburzy shot the man, grabbed some new Panzerfäuste and knocked out a further four T-34’s. He then personally led his Batallion in a counter-attack on the Russian positions and held his part of the front sector.

    In the Wehrmachtsbericht of February 28, 1945, it said that; “the awarding of the Knight’s Cross to SA-Hauptsturmführer Tiburzy, commander of a Königsberg Volkssturm Batallion, for the destruction of five Russian tanks”.

    These look great I especially like the background you went into. Makes it so much more real than just “Trooper A”

    @piers You might be able to help me with this one with this release of painted minis

    Back in the mid 90’s there was a company doing the UK show circuit with a large range of 20mm metals. Models I remember were refugees (with suitcases and prams), uniformed German civil policemen, the “first” infantry in foxholes (with resin foxholes) and lots of other “niche” minis that tended towards the modeler (rather than the wargamer). For example not much call for uniformed civil policemen for a WW2 german army in most army lists.

    Now its not SHQ, AB or any of the other “main” 20mm producers. And it was around in the mid 90s (then I left to live in the US and lost touch). Really looking to get some of these minis again, and ideas who they could have been (last sighting for me was Sheffield Triples in 95, but then wasn’t back until 2004)?

    @phaidknott

    Sounds alot like the Battlefield Refugees range and some of their Special Edition sets.

    Battlefield Miniatures used to have tons of ranges but most are OOP now. They still do some refugee packs and I think I have some somewhere.

    They also did a couple of sets with German police, plus Kripo and z gestapo types. I have pics of them… again somewhere. Sadly those packs are long since deleted by the owner and they sell for a good price when they turn up second hand.

    CP Models do a nice set of German police now.

    Hmmm looking at the few photos, it looks like Battlefield Miniatures was the company (going one the sculpting style). Pity there’s so few left available of the range (as it used to be very extensive). Thanks Piers, been going mad (when I remember to try and find them) over the years trying to track them down. Wasn’t sure if the range had been sold on and was operating under a different umbrella name. But the Refugess are available still…so I’ll be putting in an order for a diorama I’m making (might have to go to CP for the police model).
