Review: A tabletop game worthy of the “Greatest Generation”

Bolt action is a great game for World War II enthusiasts and anyone who has seen a movie of that era and thought “that would be so cool to be in!”

The game mechanics are solid and make replaying the game endlessly different and unique. The level of detail in the models is very good and the historical accuracy is also extremely high.

The only note of caution is twofold.  One, the vehicle assembly instructions are obtuse at times and can lead the modeler to easily make mistakes in assembly so using the box’s artwork to solve these mysteries is essential!  Two, for a game that depends on it’s historical authenticity as a product, the sets provide a shockingly lack of history, documentation, or guidance for making the models historically accurate as a finished product.  The website could easily address this, but again, Warlord Games fails to explain any of the esoterica in the models for new hobbyists that one would expect.

I would recommend this game to anyone who grew up hearing stories from granddad about “the war”, those who love movies like “Saving Private Ryan” or “Patton”, or anyone interested in this time period.
