Mask of EEE! really is Mask of Cheeeeese! I love it! But it’s really cheesy to boot 🙂 I reluctantly decided that a terror-causing Dwarf would just get me mocked!

Potion of Speed suffers the same limitations as the I10 and ASF magic weapons. As much as the new rules would like us to believe otherwise, Initiative is still a minor stat.
6:03 – Are you seriously telling me that that is the actual name of the item, as printed in the book? *facepalm* I’d say I can’t believe it, but given GW’s writing as of late, I very much can. If I needed any more proof that this edition of Warhammer is aimed at children, I think this item is it.
8:42 – As soon as Daryl said he was waiting for it for his Ogres, I knew what item you were talking about. This is probably the common magic item I have the biggest issue with – the ability for characters to Fly should be *rare*, as it can make them horrendously effective. And as has been stated, you can’t take more than one item from a single category, so the Fly/Terror combo is not possible.
Nor can Dwarfs take any common magic items at all (they use Runes, remember).
As for ‘bringing roleplay back’, what exactly has 8th edition done for that? You’re suggesting ‘throwing out the rules’ and making up stuff yourself – which is fine, of course – but there’s nothing about 7th that stopped you doing that, or about 8th that specifically allows it.
7th might not have been fun to *you*, but it was fun for other people (myself included) – you make quite a sweeping statement. As I said before, nothing was ever stopping the kind of random, “magical” (as you put it) play you seem so happy about, but 8th limits or even destroys the kind of play that people such as myself enjoyed. That’s a big part of why I have such a problem with your attitude towards the new rules – you keep saying you’re going to ‘take the game back’ for your kind of play, when it was never taken away from you in the first place. However, while before both sides were catered for, now it seems only the ‘unpredictable’ crowd are provided for.
Not to mention the fact that there are plenty of games that suit that play attitude far better (Necromunda and Blood Bowl are two that spring to mind), so I for one resent Warhammer Fantasy becoming one of them. I don’t have anything *against* those kinds of games, I’d probably even enjoy them myself, but I don’t want WHFB to be like that, because for me it was the right blend between fluffy, silly fun (with enough random elements to create funny stories), and a serious tactical and strategic wargame that required a player to think, and made their decisions and mistakes have a great impact on the result, as well as the unpredictable parts.
In the end, that’s what it will always come down to; personal preference. The kind of game Warhammer is now is not the kind of game I want it to be – it’s gone too far in the ‘random’ direction and I see little point in spending the time and money building an army when all you’re really doing is throwing dice and seeing what happens. Like I said, there are better, cheaper, and less labour-intensive games that cater for that. But comments such as ‘taking the game back’, implying that players of 7th were all just tournament-obsessed cheese-mongers, and the quite astonishing reaction that speaking against the new edition generates seemingly wherever one goes (yes, I’m talking about myself and the response I get, there) is enough to convince me that Warhammer’s not a game for me any more. So, in a way, you’ve already succeded in ‘taking the game back’, but perhaps not all the people you (and 8th ed) are taking it from are who you think they are.
Anyway, I’m hoping BoW don’t think of me as ‘that guy ruining everything’, but I felt compelled to voice what I believe are valid points. I’ll probably post some more thoughts on the ‘dislikes’ video, but after that you’ll be glad to know I’ll be on my way, since I would suppose I’m not all that welcome here.
And I swear, if I hear ‘it gets you involved’ as a justification for TLoS one more time, I’ll scream.
[P.S: Before this comment gets swamped by a sea of angry -1’s, I should point out that there wouldn’t be much debate and discussion if everyone shared the same viewpoint about the new edition, now would there? Just a thought.]
Wouldn’t the potion of speed be good to use for dwarfs?

maluscaliber: I agree that I think I prefer 7th edition, but equally, I preferred most of the 6th edition things.Having said that, I may just be reluctant to start liking 8th edition and will be undecided until I play a game.
Kuraba: Dwarfs can’t use magic items.
Potion of Speed: This might be nice when combined with ASF, but I’m still not a fan of one use only items and initiative is only ever so slightly more important in this than in 7th, but not important enough for one person to get a one off initiative boost. For 5 points, maybe, but spend them elsewhere for best use.
Potion of Strength: I would say that this is much more useful than the potion of speed, but it’s generally going to be best for challenges (lots of Chaos players considering it here 😀 ). It may only be for one turn, but +3 strength is worth it. P.S. Isn’t the Steam Tank now Toughness 10? Would make that easier to wound, but just have gnoblars throw sharp stuff in two ranks.
Terrifying Mask of Eeeee!: A ridiculous name, but unsurprising, really… Terror is useful and the downside isn’t all that big a deal. Stick it on a cheap hero with mount (Hobgoblin hero on wolf for example) running behind the enemy to march block, casue Terror, get in rear/flank charges to help add a tiny bit of punch etc…
NO! Sorry, but no model can EVER carry more than one of ANY kind of magic item.
Healing Potion: 35 points to return D6 wounds?!? If people aren’t giving this to many-wounded heroes and any Lords, then they are, frankly, ridiculous. It’s like having the character twice. It’s downside is that you need to drink it before you die. Even one wound back is great and that’s a one in six chance, 5/6 times you will get 2 or more wounds!
Arabian Carpet: Somewhat ridiculous. Sounds good for an Araby army, maybe even Dogs of War or something, but it doesn’t make sense for random armies to have it. Ogres and even Chaos Dwarf armies are the closest to making sense due to proximity and trading, but Lizardmen or High Elves or Beastmen or Dark Elves? No comment… Tomb Kings will now be able to have TWO flying characters and, has been said, flying characters are very potent…
The Wizarding Hat: 100 points for a level 2 wizard that is stupid? Sounds like an utterly useless item to me. Chaos have the Book of Secrets which makes you a level one wizard for less than half of the points! Dwarfs can NOT use magic items 😀 Please stop saying that they can 😛
