I caught up with my friend Chip where he was slingin’ dice at the Black Sun table, the new “Weird Vietnam” game.   The table was great, everyone was having fun, and some of the units were, well … interesting to say the least.

Currently on Kickstarter at the moment. I do like the Fishmen unit and the bugs they have shown but unfortunately don’t have any spare hobby budget!

I’m not sure about the ‘Weird’ aspect of this. But I love seeing the Vietnam table setup.

I’m digging into ‘Flames of War-Vietnam’ right now and just getting around to the question of what to use for trees, bushes, foliage, and ect ect.

I’ll have to do a search in the ‘hobby lab archives’ to see if brother @lloyd has covered this before. No since in re-inventing the wheel if it’s been done before.

Weird war yes or no, the table is quite nice and I wish I could manage to make jungle terrain like this.
Robert´s post, ever so great: Amphibious, so they must be marines. Wonderful!

I jumped in the kickstarter even though I already have around a platoon or so on each side for the historical opponents. If played… Read more »

This is a fascinating idea. I’d love to get stuck into historical Vietnam gaming at some point.

I agree with Jon. It did not take too long to catch on. I liked the activation system as it did not guarantee everything could activate in your turn. I was running the “Pig”. That is the Adaro with a rocket launcher strapped to it’s back. Only 3 shots but man did it do some damage. You absolutely want to use cover because just standing and duking it out is not fun. Did not get into close combat but would have liked to see it work. Great opponents and team mates. A truly good time.
