@silverfox and @wilco92 – definitely need a lucky roll to take out a tank with a 5cm mortar, basically landing a shell right on the upper engine deck of a moving tank. very unlikely, but if it hits, well, that’s where the armour is absolute weakest.

@avernos and @damon – I’ll be honest – a 5cm / 2″ section-level mortar taking out a tank really sounds like something that only happens on a gaming table. 🙂
There was an instance of a British 2″ mortar fired and accidentally hit an ammo truck that was rearming a Tiger in Normandy. The explosion dislodged the Tigers turret and it had to abandoned. Would that count 😀

This is very t rue. Those PaK 38 5.0 cms reallyshould have been wompin’ on those Valentines or at least Humber armoured cars / universal carriers (or did those not count as they are actually not tanks?)
I think they kept it to the valentines and 8-rads as they at least had some armour
