I’d probably want to get some sort of base coat on, with the intention of painting them up in full later on, then game away.
I painted mine full colored with Quickshade as we found it easier to differentiate the walkers from the survivers if they were colored.
Block colours, strong tone, glue sand/gravel/flock to base, wave newspaper at them for 10 min to dry ’em off to play more.

I think cell shade to start then when I have the spare time (yeah right when do parents have spare time) I would then want to go back and paint them properly
I think I’m leaning toward cell shading once my pledge arrives, I’ll have to do a few test models on my copy of Zombicide first though.
Nice to see that people paint the miniatures, its a noo goo playing with unpainted chars
Seems to me there is little time for painting when there are zombies to fight so keep it simply……spray, dip, and game on………. 🙂
I’ve got too many board games to paint up these days. I’m definitely going the cell-shaded route.
Cell-shading for me, so I can bring in some cell-shaded BP zombies as well… a mediebal fantasy LARP struck by the zombie apocalypse 🙂

Always start out with the intention to fully paint everything, then slowly get distracted by other things and then move on to the next project while promising to return to what I was doing someday . . .
is there a view on cell shading technique without an airbrush? Is it just a wash and a dry brush? I’d like to give it a go
With the comic being black and white, I’d be tempted to use the cell shading on these as well.
But I’d probably end up with half a game of normally painted mini’s.
I like the idea of ‘cell shading’ for a horde of zombies – although I am currently trialing Solastro’s guide for Zombicide minis, which does look good, but in the future I may consider something quicker – that said I do feel a full colour paint-job would do these minis more justice.
I’d paint them in full. It takes longer, but looks better in my opinion.
I’d love to see a whole game table done with the cell shade technique. A zenith highlight of the figures and terrain to get the same feel as the comics or old black and white zombie movies would be interesting.
Can you prime thse straight out of the box or do you need to wash the minis first?

Full painting. Murky/muted for the walkers, bright colours for the survivors.
More likely in my world: leave as bare plastic with good intentions for ever more 😉
To paint the zombies I think it’s a case of pink paints at random and zombies at rondo and apply to the cloths randomly so that you end up with different colour tops and trousers on them all.
I still love the idea of cell shade, but I also want my models to pop on the table and stand out. If I went the cell shade route, I would then want all my terrain to be black and white. I’ve gone with base spray of Necrotic flesh, Agrax Earthshade wash, then Khaki-988 with highlights of Rakarth Flesh for my ‘Walkers’,
I`m gonna give your “cell-shaded” Technic a go, as i liked the look of it when @Warren did it with one of his games. I usually find myself getting half way through a box of figure`s, and then not going near them for weeks after. Doing cell shade look`s quicker, and it takes half the time meaning your not getting bored half way (just like i do).
With so many I think simple is better.
Can’t wait to try my hand at these. Try being the operative word.
