Aircraft Better Watch Out For Warlord’s Bolt Action Wirbelwind
June 13, 2017 by dracs
Warlord has a new vehicle coming this Friday to aid the German war effort in Bolt Action; a strange looking tank named the Wirbelwind.
Nicknamed the Keksdose, or "Biscuit Tin", due to its odd shaped turret, this self-propelled anti-aircraft gun was developed as a response to the Allies gaining air superiority and is based upon the Panzer IV tank.
It's definitely an interesting looking vehicle, unlike any other World War II piece I have seen so far. There is almost something pulp Sci-Fi about that turret, at least to my inexpert eye.
Can you tell us more about this vehicle? What do you want to see next from Warlord?

I really like that, the quad 20mm flak was a beast of a weapon system. Historically, it replaced the Möbelwagen ( Moving Van 😀 ).
That is very nice.
I guess good reason to purchase those P-51 and P-47 aircraft now.
Its less sci-fi and more of what you get with a stop-gap solution. They needed somethign that would (1) fit on a panzer IV chassis (2) allow fast elevation and azimuth traverse of the quad guns (3) protect the crew from ground fire (a problem with the mobelvagen) (4) allow good visibility for spotting aircaft and (5) allow room for the large gun and large crew.
Most of these quad systems had, I think, a gunner, spotter, and 2 loaders to keep pace with teh massive ammunition consumption of these guns.
this thing can be brutal to infantry in game, firing something like 8 shots that each have +2 pen and a 1in template. Its downsides are (1) open top, which means any firearm can cause pins. and (2) it takes up a tank slot, so means you have to take another platoon to take an actual tank if you want one. Best approach is to throw a few squad’s fire at it early in the game, cause a few pins, which means it starts taking order tests, and gets penalties to the to-hit number for its guns.
looks great can you get the turret separate.
I don’t know if it is exactly the same, but here you got the 20mm flakvierling 38:

Really like the model, when is it going to be available? I have not found it on warlord games webpage… 🙁
Yep it’s got that gun and there’s lots out there.
looks good thanks.
Its an oddball, but a machine of necessity that filled its role reasonably well.
