The Mortal Realms were not forgotten as part of the Warhammer Day preview over the weekend. A couple of new miniatures were revealed for the forces of Order in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar alongside a continuation of the narrative as the Dawnbringers crusade continues.

One of the original characters that graced our tabletops during the launch of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar, Ionus Cryptborn has returned. He set out on his quest to see if he could find a solution to the flaws that happened during the course of Reforging. This has sent him into the heart of the Realm Of Death in search of answers and in doing so, he has made a new companion, Cthorak.

Last seen in shining gold armour alongside his ally, Vandus Hammerhand, Ionus has now become the Warden Of Lost Souls and appears on battlefields alongside his Stormdrake Guard to spirit away (hah) those Stormcast who have been changed by the Reforging process.

He has a suitably awesome new miniature and will be coming as part of a boxed set, Cryptborn's Stormwing, which will allow you to make a dark and dangerous army of dragons to use on the tabletop.

It has been noted that Cryptborn will find himself running into Vandus Hammerhand once again when he arrives in The Mortal Realms as part of the new book (which we'll look at later). I can sense that he might not be quite the same Ionus that left on his dangerous quest.

Lead The Great Hunt!

Another of the new characters for Order is the mighty Belthanos, First Thorn Of Kurnoth. As the master of the hunt, Belthanos is ready to lead his fellow Kurnothi across the battlefield, ridding the land of the taint of Chaos in grand hunts.

He rides into battle on the back of a Carnelian Greatspite at the forefront of the Evergreen Hunt. Whilst many Sylvaneth armies prefer to hunker down and protect their glades on the battlefield, Belthanos is all about charging into the heat of battle and chasing down his enemies. Attack is its own form of defence.

Much like with Ionus, Belthanos comes with a new boxed set that offers up a way to use him in your games, the Blades Of Belthanos focuses heavily on the idea of this fellow leading from the front. You get a set of three Kurnoth Hunters in the set alongside the Revenant Seekers.

Kurnoth Hunters have always been some of my favourite miniatures in the Warhammer Age Of Sigmar range and so this might provide me with an opportunity to pick up this fellow to use them in greater numbers. Maybe I will be able to convince my partner to add some to her Sylvaneth army.

The Dawnbringers Story Continues

Both of these characters and their Regiments Of Renown will be featured in the new book for the Dawnbringers storyline, The Long Hunt.

The fighting shifts towards dealing with the terrifying forces of Khorne that threaten the future of the crusade. Additionally, a massive horde of Ogors and their Gorgers are also threatening to strike at the heart of this adventurous endeavour forcing the crusade to fight on multiple fronts.

Inside the book, you'll find new rules for Ionus and Belthanos plus more for the Ogors and the Fyreslayers.

The story continues to unfold and more secrets will be revealed as the forces of humanity push deeper into the realms to build their cities on the frontier. I can sense things are only going to get worse and I am tempted to suggest that Sigmar's plans might end up coming to ruin.

Could you be tempted to pick up some new Warhammer Age Of Sigmar miniatures to continue your story in The Mortal Realms?
