Defend Cathay’s Great Bastion In Warhammer: The Old World
February 23, 2026 by brennon
Games Workshop also turned to new releases coming soon for Warhammer: The Old World and the force of Grand Cathay. The storyline continues to unfold as The Great Bastion has been threatened by the forces of Chaos!
The Breaching of the Great Bastion // Warhammer: The Old World
All of that new lore is covered in Arcane Journal: The Breaching of the Great Bastion. You'll find more lore and background for the Land of Dragons and how the people of Grand Cathay rise up to defend their home, reinforcing the standing armies of this nation.
You'll get new rules for Astromancers, Crane Gun Teams, Iron Hail Gunners and Peasant Levy alongside a dynamic scenario, the Battle of Nan-Li, where you must hold the line against the Warriors of Chaos.
New Army Reinforcement Set
All of those new miniatures can be found within a new Army Reinforcement Set for the forces of Grand Cathay, a good way to bolster your force with citizen warriors and noble heroes.
Defenders of the Great Bastion // Warhammer: The Old World
This set comes with two Astromancers, one foot and one mounted alongside a magical familiar. You also get a mass of infantry in the form of thirty Peasant Soldiers, dragged from the fields to fight against the hordes of Chaos. They can be armed with a warbow or a long spear and whilst they aren't as effective as professional soldiers, numbers count for something.
These peasants are watched over by ranged support in the form of eight Crane Gun Teams and twelve Iron Hail Gunners. Blast your enemies away from long range or up close and personal. Pick your poison.
All of the miniatures shown above are plastic and will be available in this set whilst stocks last before going on general release.
Do you like this new set of miniatures for Grand Cathay?

I like the Cathay expansions; I’ve picked up all of them so far.
I can see the appeal especially with it all new miniatures . For me it’s not worth the investment at this time with my other projects.
