Games Workshop has announced that pre-orders for the first supplement for the new edition of Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game will be available this weekend. You will be able to get your hands on the War of the Rohirrim, which details the conflict from the movie.

Inside this softback book, you'll find a full linked campaign that allows you to recreate the key moments from the movie. You can either take on the role of Helm Hammerhand and the Rohirrim or Lord Wulf and his Hill Tribesmen allies.

The book will also contain a selection of alternative paint schemes for the different Lords of Rohan and also stage-by-stage techniques for bringing the Hill Tribesmen to life. You will need both the Rules Manual and the Armies of The Lord of the Rings in order to make use of this. This should be a good way to expand your collection beyond the new edition War of the Rohirrim Starter Set.

In addition to the new supplement, you will also be able to get the new plastic miniature for Helm Hammerhand, King of Rohan and some of his allies within his kingdom.

Father Chri...Helm Hammerhand gets both a mounted and on-foot version in the plastic set. As has been a theme with a lot of the miniatures for the War of the Rohirrim, I can understand why Games Workshop has painted them as you see here, to try and match the style of the movie BUT I think they could all benefit well from a scheme that reflects the style of the original Lord of the Rings films.

Following Helm Hammerhand into battle are some of his closest allies in the form of a big plastic set that contains Fréaláf Hildeson, Olwyn & Lief.

This set comes with three mounted and dismounted heroes. You get Fréaláf Hildeson, the First Marshal of the Riddermark, and future king of Rohan, Olwyn, a veteran shieldmaiden and mentor to Hera and then finally, Lief, the loyal page who delivers Helm's orders on the battlefield.

I really like the miniature for Olwyn and I think Lief would also look good with a slightly different paint job. I do think that Fréaláf does suffer from not having a grand cloak flowing in the wind behind him that would help make him feel a bit more Rohirrim.

Last but not least, you will also be able to pick up some Dice that you can use to show your allegiance to Rohan or the Usurpers to the throne.

Hill Tribesmen Dice // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game

You don't need many dice when playing games of the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game and so this should cover all of your clashes on the tabletop. The Rohirrim dice come in green, whilst the Hill Tribesmen are designed to look like weathered bone to match the nature of the Wildmen.
