Lafig Miniatures are on Kickstarter right now with their campaign to bring their Sci-Fi Space Troopers to life! This new set of 28mm scale miniatures could be used for all sorts of games with a little bit of a twist on an old-school style.

This new collection boasts around forty miniatures that you can get from the project either as STL Files or as 3D printed, physical miniatures. There is a small stipulation that they cannot ship physical miniatures to the United States, so if you want them and you're over The Pond, then you'll need to get the digital files and 3D print them at home.

At the core of the collection are the Troopers themselves, a mix of grizzled soldiers with their laser rifles at the ready, looking to conquer some alien world, no doubt.

The miniatures look great and have that distinctly retro feel to them, especially because of the helmet designs. You get a good mixture of poses in the set as well, with some troopers firing, others calling out their shots and a few more relaxed, as if they could be on guard duty.

If you like the look of the Troopers and want to try printing one for yourself, a free download is available from Lafig Miniatures so you can try before you buy.

Alongside the Troopers, you can also get your hands on some burly Big Men who are going to be laying down some covering fire whilst you advance towards the enemy.

You could also use these as highly decorated bodyguards who find themselves serving alongside some of the other commanders in your collection. Maybe you could even twist things and have the fellow in the hat be the actual general of your army. Mad, bad and dangerous to know. Especially when he's hungry.

Talking of being hungry, the sneaky Shotmen are also going to be taking to the tabletop. Whilst they might often fulfil the role of chefs, they are not adverse to getting stuck in, especially when you're defending the mess tent!

These are very characterful and whilst I think the obvious answer to painting these is to go with chef's whites, I think you could do these in camouflage cooking attire for an extra bit of fun and whimsy.

All that would be because they are aiming to defend the SouperNova Grav-Pot!

Simple cooking device? Super powerful weapon? Food-based landmine? Your guess is as good as ours. It's good to see the classic Halfling Hotpot getting updated for a Sci-Fi battlefield. Just make sure you give them a good review, or they'll be after you.

Some more quirky additions to the collection include The Cyborgs here. These could be soldiers who have been "upgraded" after taking terrible injuries on the battlefield. Maybe they're prisoners who have been "persuaded" to join the cause?

They could possibly find themselves in the service of The Brainers, a group of psychically enhanced individuals who can use their intellect to crush minds, set people on fire and protect their own troops with psionic defences.

You get some great miniatures in this little set that are clearly all good guys. No terrible, strange warp entity has made its way into their brains and is controlling their every thought and action. Right? These could also be good as villains in your games as well as "heroes" alongside your valiant Space Troopers.

Last but not least, we have The Authorisers who are going to be making sure that your troops don't take a backward step on the battlefield.

Armed with an assortment of ranged and melee weapons, they are great and will ace when painted up in their classic blacks and reds. I think you could also have some fun painting them in white, as if they are there to represent some sort of warped purity amongst the ranks of the Space Troopers.

The Kickstarter is also funding a Troop Transport and some Casualty figures that can be used to bolster your force. Stretch Goals and more are available as part of the campaign and you can also get some of their previous miniatures, the Space Beastmen, to use as allies or enemies to the Space Troopers.

What do you make of the Space Troopers?
