Warcradle Discuss Changes Of Dystopian War’s New Edition!

Warcradle Studio's design team headed over to their blog last week to talk about the development of the new edition of Dystopian Wars, their naval wargame, and what they are planning to do for both veteran players and newcomers.

One important takeaway from their most recent blog post is this...
"To the current fans of Dystopian Wars, we should say this: we are not simplifying the game for the sake of simplicity. Indeed, the crunchy mechanical decisions you know and love will still be present. Our intention, instead, is to streamline the gameplay and aid the players in making the meaningful, strategic decisions they are used to, with clearer information to guide them."
Plenty of the crunch will still be there for those who enjoy it but any streamlining of the game's mechanics has been done to make it clearer and easier to play the game. As an example, the number of special rules has been trimmed (from over 200) and has instead been folded into Attributes and such. Similarly, weapons will now be added to units rather than at the back of an ORBAT, so you'll have less flicking back and forth and referencing to do during the course of your games.
Another change to the process is not having to declare all of your attacks for a unit at once, having to remember all of your firing arcs, targets and what conditions affect each weapon. Now, each unit on the tabletop has a specific set of actions and you just resolve one attack after another, so you can make decisions on the fly depending on the changing situation.
You can find out more and hear from the design team behind Dystopian Wars HERE. Essentially, veteran players have nothing to worry about and newcomers to Dystopian Wars will find themselves accessing a refined experience built off years of development on both earlier editions and Armoured Clash.
Will you be trying out the new edition of Dystopian Wars?

I was, of course, always going to play DW 4.0… No suprises there.
But the way James Hewitt made AC into a smooth playing game with still a lot of tactical depth, makes me very confident that he can work his magic on DW too.
Nope, waiting on them to update Wild West Exodus
Presumably with the extent of the blue section of the map it’s the Gulf of the Union there.
Totally! Gulf of the Union, it’s really a tremendous body of water. It’s the best anywhere in the world, not like the loser bodies of water in the Alliance. They’re the worst, total losers…
