Painting the Walking Dead All Out War Core box
Survivors
I had to start with the survivors, mainly because I didn’t know where to start with the zombies.
First step was to spray everything with an undercoat, I went with white so I could use some of the Army painter inks so save time. They certainly did that too, the blue is exceptional at making denim, I completely found this out by accident too. At this point I also painted the jackets black and the eyes too. This would help later when it came to the faces,
I then added the block colours. Mainly reds and browns with zandri dust for Ricks uniform.
I then came to the faces themselves.
The eyes were already black so I got a small detail brush with a little white paint and painted the eyeballs. I then added a black dot to the centre for the iris.
The skin was then done with Bugmans glow and a layer of cadian fleshtone over the top.
The silver when also added for the bladed weapons and the buckles of the belts.
I also went for blonde hair on a couple of the survivors, this was done with zandri dust again with a coat of agrax earthshade.
I added the army painter darktone for shading on all the parts of the models I hadn’t used an ink on. This added detail pretty much instantly and is a great way to paint models fast.
I also painted the floor at this stage, I decided to go for a simple road. The base was done with eshin grey with a very light drybrush of dawnstone.
A few quick lines to simulate road markings were added. I did this with a light grey and a yellow and masked off the base to try to keep straight lines.
Finally adding a few leaves to get that unkept look as in the TV series really finished them off.
I’m quite please with how they’ve turned out, lots of experimenting with different Army Painter washes and inks but it was worth it.
Well worth giving the paint sets a go and giving this faster way of painting a go, it certainly speeds things up and the results are pretty amazing.
nice work 🙂 that’s a clever way to do the bases too 😉
