So after all the indecision I went out and picked up some 6mm ACW.

I went for the only 6mm ACW I could find here in Australia, Irregular Miniatures via Eureka Miniatures.

They look awesome and very, very tiny. For reference the smallest thing I’ve ever painted has been a 15mm Flames of War British Paratrooper.

I went for both the Union and Confederate Army Bundles, i had no idea what I would get and I’m very happy with what arrived in the mail.

Hard to see but both Armies are basically the same. 9 Battalions of Infantry, 4 Battalions of Cavalry, 3 Commanders, 2 Artillery PiecesHard to see but both Armies are basically the same. 9 Battalions of Infantry, 4 Battalions of Cavalry, 3 Commanders, 2 Artillery Pieces

I plan to base these on 60×30 bases which seem to be the norm, for the Artillery I’ll base them on 30×30 so I can use them for a wider variety of games.

The main game I’m going for is Altar of Freedom but I’m not locked in to anything.

I’m going to give these guys an undercoat and try to paint them later tonight.

First off DON’T PANIC Irregular look a lot worse until there painted. Thankfully the moulds Eureka have are better than the ones Irregular have or at least they were the last time compared them. My technique is simple spray grey. A light black wash( I use Vajello shade wash but any thinned down ink would do) just to highlight the areas that need painting and then paint in the grey bits that are left. After that I give them a thinned down wash of W&N nut brown or a thinned down Agrax Earthshade ( I would normally us this on… Read more »
