I don’t have a lot of space, tools or ability to make a mess nowadays so I couldn’t go down the silicone/caulk route so I went for the next best thing.

These are the kind of roads I'm referring to. Also note the giant trees, hence 2mm terrain. These are the kind of roads I'm referring to. Also note the giant trees, hence 2mm terrain.

After a bit of a break I decided to bump up my ACW collection a bit with another few Brigades each to let me do the bigger scenarios.

As usual all the minis are 6mm Irregular Miniatures from Eureka here in Australia.

I also did a lot of 2mm Terrain that I’ll post soon. The plan is to set up a table and see how it all looks

I decided to finally upload these pics and wrap the project up for now.

Two forces done, 20ish Infantry, 8 Cavalry and 10+ Guns per side all painted and base.

I’m glad I picked the ACW for my first go at ACW, I wanted to compare uniforms v no uniforms to see what was more fun to paint and what looked better.

For me it’s definitely uniforms and my next project in 6mm will be Napoleonics most likely Peninsular just because it’s what I know.

Massive thanks to everyone for their support and for all the help.

As it stands now I’ve got 20 Infantry Stands, 8 Commander Stands, 4 Artillery with Limbers, 4 Bases of Cavalry with 2 Cavalry Command Bases and a HQ Tent.

I’ve got another 4 Bases of Cavalry to do along with 5 Stands of Dug in Guns to do.

The only major thing I still need to get is a HQ Stand to represent the overall army commander, a few runners, some officers on foot that sort of thing.

Here’s the first army pack painted and based. The raw sand bases are the infantry component of the second army pack ready to be washed and based.

I’m really enjoying painting and basing this 6mm stuff, I managed to get about 8 Battalions of Infantry done in a few hours which I’m pretty happy with.

Once I finish the Confederates I’ll start on the Union, I want to get all the chaos and varied uniforms out of the way before I start on the uniformed look.

I have been slowly chugging away at my 6mm ACW as time allows and I finally got my bases in the mail so I threw my Confederate Cavalry on there and built my first 6mm Confederate Cavalry Brigade complete with Cavalry Command Base.

Bases are 60×30 and 30×30

I’ve ordered another of each “Army Pack”, some Skirmishers and more Artillery. Next update will be the rest of my Confederate Infantry Painted and ready to go.

I used the only undercoat I had on hand, GW Wraithbone, followed by a Black Wash which really helped me to see the detals and gave some shading.

Then I blocked out the colours (Painting them slightly brighter to compensate) followed by a Brown Wash which I then swapped for a Black Wash.

I’m definitely going to go for a Black undercoat next time the current one is too bright.

I’ll try to get a full unit done soon to see the mass unit effect

So after all the indecision I went out and picked up some 6mm ACW.

I went for the only 6mm ACW I could find here in Australia, Irregular Miniatures via Eureka Miniatures.

They look awesome and very, very tiny. For reference the smallest thing I’ve ever painted has been a 15mm Flames of War British Paratrooper.

I went for both the Union and Confederate Army Bundles, i had no idea what I would get and I’m very happy with what arrived in the mail.

Hard to see but both Armies are basically the same. 9 Battalions of Infantry, 4 Battalions of Cavalry, 3 Commanders, 2 Artillery PiecesHard to see but both Armies are basically the same. 9 Battalions of Infantry, 4 Battalions of Cavalry, 3 Commanders, 2 Artillery Pieces

I plan to base these on 60×30 bases which seem to be the norm, for the Artillery I’ll base them on 30×30 so I can use them for a wider variety of games.

The main game I’m going for is Altar of Freedom but I’m not locked in to anything.

I’m going to give these guys an undercoat and try to paint them later tonight.
