About the Project
I recently found Tinkercad and a desire to make landships. Thought i'd try something new.

Atomclad progress
As you can probably tell from all the new prints, my business partner recently moved his 3d printer to the workshop and gave me free reign. I have been making the most of it!
I also managed to get some painting done over the weekend (A half an hour walk to the workshop on Friday proved that the business centre is closed on what turned out to be a bank holiday lol oh well I needed the exercise)
A few more figures and i’ll be ready for playtesting!
Woops!
So after proudly displaying my Lunar Coalition figures across the internet I went to print them – to my horror it turned out that I’d made their arms and heads too small, furthermore they were diddy! Sadly I’d gone a little screen blind while making them, something which is easy to do when you work on a project in one go without looking away.
So onwards to the pc I went determined to remedy their small arms and small heads…
…And I promptly got the proportions wrong the other way – now they head bobble heads and gorilla arms. Back to the files again…
Finally I got the proportions right, I then made some new poses that would be a little less lack lustre. I’m finally happy with them! I also printed off the Titanotron, which came out nice
Now that I’m happy with the proportions I can get cracking on making a whole bunch of them 🙂
Lunar Coalition
I thought I’d have a go at making a human in tinkercad and, since I’ve been desperate to resculpt my Lunar Coalition figures for a few years (as the sculpts haven’t aged very well), I figured I’d get them in some fully enclosed armour and have a go.
Really happy with the results so far!
Command Tripod
My martian tripod was feeling a little lonely and directionless, so I made it a big friend to tell it what to do.
Prussian Colossus and torpedo boat
Got a couple more figures designed over Christmas.
I wanted to make something massive for a cool centre piece. Figured a giant Prussian mech would do the trick! Pictured this going well with the saucers while I was making it.
I played a lot of war thunder over the christmas break and really like the look of the german s-boats. Figured I’d make a walking torpedo boat – of course the torpedoes are rockets.
Doughboy class Atomclad
Had an idea for a new class of medium land ship, built in the US, where the main crew compartment and engine room would be in a giant turret. I designed it to look a little bit like a Sherman.
Really happy with the result, I think it fits in really nicely with the land ships and saucers. Should be a nice little range!
Painting!
Finished off painting the first of my samples today so thought I should get a decent pic of them!
New batch of prints!
Met up with Jamie yesterday and got given a bumper crop of prints!
I now have a Martian tripod, the missing turrets for my medium landship, a small landship, and my saucers!
I’ve got a couple bits cleaned and built so far – the tripod and small landship. Saucers will have to wait until the flying stands i ordered arrive.
I also came up with the name for my landship game – Atomclad (Figured the ships would be called Atomclads – like ironclads but they have atomic shielding)
Titanotron
Now for my first digital sculpt for Wasteman itself – I’ve remade the titanotron, which I originally sculpted by hand over 4 years ago.
Attack Saucer
I made a little friend for the main saucer
Flying Saucer
Had a couple days off to relax after running my last kickstarter. Decided to get this out of my head – A German flying saucer to go with/ against my landships!
I’ve had an idea for a smaller fighter escort type saucer to go with this too. Would make a cool faction!
Landships ahoy!
So a couple of months ago I was watching an episode of Tested on youtube (you should check it out if you haven’t seen it) and they mentioned something called tinkercad. Turns out it’s a browser based CAD program that’s free to use.
Free… able to run on my potato/computer… Naturally I had to check it out.
Turns out the way it works is very similar to unreal edit, which I spent a good chunk of my teenage years playing around with, so after a week or two I’d quickly got the hang of it.
Now a week or two before this discovery I’d had an idea for a game – walking battleships fighting martian tripods, and with it very fresh in my mind It made sense that this was the first thing I made digitally.
I first made the small landship, then decided it needed a multi turreted bigger friend. I’m thinking I’ll make a larger, six legged one eventually.
6mm Scale felt right for them. I wanted the tripods to be massive but small enough to not cost an arm and a leg once I got around to making them. At this size they’ll end up about 70mm tall.
Speaking of tripods…
I very much wanted a balance between war machine and alien monster, so I designed the cockpit to slightly resemble a screaming face with an elephant trunk.
In the mean time Rob at Hysterical Games sent me a test print of the first turret I made. I was instantly hooked. It was so small and awesome!
I also had a crack at some scrapbots as I was working on a robot commission for Jamie (who lives down the road and runs Old School Miniatures) He then decided to treat himself to a couple of 3d printers!
And Jamie, being a legend, insisted he’d print anything I sent him. Good practice for both of us, and really exciting. It wasn’t long before I got a box of goodies.
