About the Project

My Space Wolves 'Rhino Family' From my current attempts to create a Space Wolves Great Company that was started in about 2009 (yes 2009). I work offshore so my hobby time is limited, I have a bad habit of starting projects then boxing them away when I go to work, so at the start of the lockdown I reckoned it was time to get the half finished stuff finished. I'm also a terrible hobby butterfly so going back to stuff is my least favourite part of the hobby.

My Space Wolves have evolved over the years with the first units of my current force started following the release of the 5th Edition Codex in 2009.

I went for Bran Redmane’s Great Company and produced my own transfers before Forgeworld produced there set, I also at the time chose to use icons for pack markings rather than the geometric shapes in vogue at the time.  GW have since followed my lead 🙂

A lot of the models have been used in previous armies and were striped before starting this project.

First attempt to add the Predators, using a paint mix in an attempt to find a shade of Space Wolves blue/grey that I liked. Also an attempt trying out desert weathering (no snow here).

A weathered Predator and looking for a place to place the company markings.

2014 - Let's add more vehicles

Let’s add more vehicles to the army, a Land Raider Prometheus, and two Vindicators. I think I also re-painted the Predator, I prefer a clean ‘just on planet’ look to my vehicles.

At this point the FW Imperial Armour book may have been released, I took a cue from it and put the company markings on a white diamond background.

Also, at this point I was finally going over to the dark side and using the ‘new’ GW paint range and did a colour test on the Land Raider.  I stuck with the newer colour.

2015 - Time for a re-paint

Re-painting everything with the newer GW paints.  Discovering that Vallejo’s Track Primer is awesome and the Vindicators are done with the exception of transfers.

2016 - First big push to get stuff done!

One of those rare big pushes to get through my pile of shame.

The plan was to build all the Rhino hulls to be dual purpose mostly Rhino/Razorback and one as Whirlwind/Razorback.

In addition, each of my Grey Hunter and Blood Claws packs will get a dedicated set of roof doors with some of those home-made pack transfers and I’ll attempt to make maximum use of the Forgeworld goodies stored up.

2020 - I only went and did it!

I did it, with a day to spare before I head off to work again.

I finished with transfers and varnished for gaming;

  • Two Predators with Forgeworld extra armour.
  • Two Vindicators.
  • A Whirlwind/Razorback.
  • A Rhino/Razorback.
  • Two Rhinos/Razorbacks with Forgeworld front plates.
  • Two Rhinos/Razorbacks with Forgeworld extra armour, side doors and dozer blades.
  • Removable Storm bolters for the Rhinos.
  • Four Forgeworld Razorback turrets.
  • A set of top doors with transfers for each Grey Hunter/Blood Claw pack in my Great Company.
  • Home made transfers for the doors and Great Company Markings.

The only thing left to do is to name the vehicles at some point before 2025.
