So while i wait for Conquest minis and some replacement parts i stumbled over my Battletech mini’s. So what better time to start painting them?

So here’s the plan.

Rather than camo or colour schemes that exist im going to steal everything the Designers Republic ever did? Who are DR? Well the team behind the Pop Will Eat Itself album covers and the logos on the racers in Wipeout. Go look them up!

So First step was to grab a bunch of things to look at. Pictures buy them. Settle on a scheme. Strong primary colours, bold, in your face.

This is the work of DR. This is the work of DR.

Once that was done, test mini. Ive gone with a Shadowhawk cause they look cool. I have gone asymmetric with the scheme as that is a very DR vibe. I like how it looks.

The big challenge was trying to get the scale. Using flat colours rather than lots of highlights. I think it works really well.

Last bit…..i need a unit logo. I’m going to combine two of my loves. Rabbits and EvE online (i’m 5 years clean….).

Im going to use EvE’s Guristas logo as my basis for this. After that i’m going to look at jet fighters for ideas for putting warning symbols and the like on the hull.

Shadow Hawk done.

So he’s done.

I’m pleased with him, and especially the Gurista logo i am using. The DR vibe is there, whilst staying Battletech in style. Future knight heraldry is very strong in this one, that and 1970’s Arthur C Clark book covers.

So whats the mix. Its all Vallejo.

Flat Blue
Flat Red
Lemon Yellow
White
Earthshade wash
Then just using the colours above to mix highlights

Base
Yellow Ochre
Earthshade wash
Then highlighting with Yellow Ochre and white.

The dust on the armour was the same as the base.

Enjoy.

So as part of my ‘waiting for Conquest stuff to turn up’ project i have finished a Jenner from JUL3D, a great company that does resin Battlemechs.

As the project log falls over with too many images I’ll post the Wolverine separately.

So here is the Wolverine. Its from the base set. Now i just need to wait for my Archer to turn up and then that will be a finished baby lance.

Oh and a group shot.

Locust

Next one done, a little Locust. I changed the strip on it due to the thinness of the leg. I think it works and ties to the other units well and keeps the DR theme running through.
