Keeping with the Sci-fi -historic cross over I has mused with painting the Imperial Navy Navy Navy Blue pretty much as the U.S Navy had been in Korea, but Kevin had already decided to do his that Colour……  now a scheme that came to mind was that of the RAF I  the desert I’m WW2,  yup I agree the opposite Navy ( though was tempted by scheme a guy on U Tune did for his Navy with a mid blue) . Another advantage I had with this idea is I had a nearly full spray can of Zandri Dust.

So I looked at Desert Spitfire V’s.

Now this whole project was to be as John would say Table Top quality   so the 1st thing I decided was they were not getting the light blue bottom fuselage cour  I did that o  Hinds for Team Yankee and that was a whole world of hurt, so plan was cammo uppers and plain Zandri Dust lower works ( including external ordinance) as to quote Geryy life is too short.

So plan was

1. Allover GW Zandri Dust  Rattle can base.

2. GW Skeleton Horde Contrast cammo bands  , I used this as I wanted it to start to pick up panel line shading.

With the Solid nose Dakka jetsI used F80 shooting Stars as a basis for scheme. Except for one which I painted as a variant of the Black Baron in this Case the Black Corsair.

For the Fighter Bombers there was no jet comparison,  so I used the A26 invader  which was still in use in the Korean War as A basis

For anyone wondering why they are not typically ork Gungy  , it is that my Ork 5551st Air Wing are Kromlech style Gothic Orks who have neat uniforms , clean their rooms and have teams of Grots polishing their planes  in fact some of them are still polishing the planes on take off.

This is actually a project I might finish!

So as my xmas project I went for Aeronautica Imperialis, I’d been ummming and arring about it for a bit, then the redoubtables Kevins said he had got it, so I took the plunge,

Having managed to get one off the original sets with the Orks , I decided to start with them mainly as I had actually come up with an idea for their paint scheme.

As part of this idea I also got an extra box of Dakka jets to give me 9 overall but particularly  3 of the short snub nose type. Now most will see this as the orky version of the Mig 15 particularly if you use the the high T type tail. This gave me an idea for an alt paint scheme for them . I know a lot of people have painted up their Imperial Forces in variations of British WW2 Bomber cammo, So for my  orks I thought Korean war as a base but not Chinese but USAF.

This meant my snub nose Dakkas would be the Migs main adversary the F86 Sabre . so they were built with the traditional lower tail wings. Korean War gives me on big advantage , nice simple silver base metal paint schemes for all my aircraft. Plus a few years back I painted a whole pile of 1/6ooth Koreab War aircraft form Tumbling dice which we used with their fairly simple air rules, and had some reference material for markings etc.

Using the F86’s as the basis for the short nose Dakka Jets,

Having this as a basis I did the Sabre esq models, I added yellow noses  although not showing on above picture it was in many of the Wings aircraft.

This is the scheme I was planning from the  2nd of  2 Air wings of Sabres sent to Korea ( Historical note the Sabres were always outnumbered about 10 to one during the conflict with only about 125 to 150 operational F86’s to over a 1000 Mig 15s for the Chinese)

This  the basic scheme of the 51st Afighter wint is the easier of the two Wings marking in that the other wing the from the 4th had similar stripes but it alt black and white similar but narrower to D day wing markings

With the above idea I could use  the F84 and F84f as  be the basis for the shark nose Dakkas, and the F80 shooting Star would be the basis for the solid nose Dakkas

I did a similar theme for the Shark nose Dakkajets using the Thunderjet as a basis
