Mister Sinister
Ever completely forgot about something then wonder how you did? With X-Men ’97 coming out I talked my wife into revisiting the original cartoon to see how it holds up.
The answer is well enough that we are now deep into season 3 (despite the animators clearly struggling with the concept of things being a consistent scale), but what really struck me was how Mister Sinister is pretty much the primary antagonist and that I had completely forgotten about him yet remember lots of other things.
So I decided to start an X-Men villains cabal list and picked him up.
Core set - Assembled!
And there we have it, another core set of another game ready to go. Now I’ll just have to get some games in and have a think about adding to it at some point!
Templates
Have fancy templates for a comic game, reach for the brightest colours in the paint rack.
News Stand
Finishing up the terrain we have the Daily Bugle News Stand. I changed track a couple of times while painting this but ended up back with the fairly standard green look.
Not hugely original but hey, it looks like the thing it is meant to be?
Traffic lights and lamposts. Oh and the bin.
Keeping these fairly simple again I managed to turn these around quickly and I think they will look decent on the table for not too much effort.
Just the newsstand and templates to go and the core set shall be done!
Taxis!
I decided to go simple and stick with classic yellow taxis for both cars. And I decided not to worry about going too detailed on these for now. The blending on the windows could be smoother but I’ll see how they look on the table before worrying about it.
Dumpsters!
These were super fast and came out decent I think. There’s something satisfying about dumpsters in superhero games, be it for cover, climbing or lobbing across the board.
Baron Zemo
I tell a lie, Zemo is the last character! Well, he wasn’t but I am a forgetful poster apparently.
With Zemo I went for a blend of MCU and comic colour schemes, hence the grey coat and swanky yellow gloves.
Doctor Octopus
Last character done, actually last week then I forgot to post him! Had to think a bit more on this one, I didn’t fancy the green and yellow scheme or want to go with black.
I am already well into the terrain so things are moving!
Ultron
In the MCU he’s silver. In the comics he’s often gold. I have a metallic blue and not enough opportunities to play with it!
Two villains left to paint then I’m on to the terrain.
Red Skull
It’s another character who wears all black! Couldn’t think of an interesting variation for him though so just rolled with the iconic look.
Crossbones
Moving onto villains now, Crossbones is a character I know nothing about apart from his brief MCU appearance in Civil War.
Google tells me he just wears black. I decided to give him camo fatigues to break up the black.
Black Widow
I decided to try mixing it up slightly and went with the white bodysuit seen in the Black Widow solo movie, because just slapping black on it felt a bit dull.
Spiderman
There is a lot of blue and red in the Avengers. Lots of it. So I have tried to mix up the shades between characters. The spider in his chest is fiddly to pick out!
Captain America
Let’s kick this off with America’s ass.
So I accidentally started a new game.
Sometime in the last year or so, I had demo game of Marvel Crisis Protocol from a guy who visited our club. I enjoyed it but wasn’t planning on starting a new game at the time. I added the core set to my Amazon wishlist in case it went on deep discount at some point and kind of forgot it was there.
Recently my birthday rolled around and my wife went digging through my wishlist. She wasn’t meant to be spending core set money on my gift so I was surprised to unwrap the MCP core set! Guess I play this now!
The core box actually does contain a fair pile of sprues, so here is that. Ten characters plus the scenery bits makes for an interesting box of things to be getting into.
