Warren; Noodle boxes like from Ghostbuster; Ned’s Noodles in Basildon. 🙂 Wee bit pricey though.
i told justin that last night, neds noodle bar is amazing though!
Yeah it is! 😀 We should all head there one day 🙂
Since we’re talking about themed food with games how about a typical industrial revolution factory workers meal oat cake and gruel with tea leaves that have been reused several times and drided out with milk that hasn’t been pasteurised and hemoginised. That seemed to fit the steampunk world of warmachine. See the link for recipes
http://www.mylearning.org/learning/everyday-life-in-the-industrial-revolution/Victorian%20Recipes_5_1.doc
Hmm food for Justin to try? I’ve always been rather partial to a Bacon, Avocado & Peanut Butter sandwich myself.
are there any guidelines to the recipes? ie do we know how limited Justins tastes currently are so we know what to suggest? (I dont want to suggest something to find its already something he regularly eats)
He eats no veggies at all… He doesn’t even know what a avocado is xD
– Natalie
If you can try to get him to eat sea squirt or sea urchin from a sushi place. It might be hard to find in the UK. Anyway both taste very strange and you either love it or hate it.
OR some Kimchi Jjigae (kimchi stew) if you can find a good Korean place around there. It is very easy to make and only takes 10-20 minutes. Here is a decent recipe: http://www.maangchi.com/recipe/kimchi-jjigae and if you don’t want pork, you can use tuna instead.
Also if you make the kimchi stew, eat it with rice on the side (or cook the rice separately then combine them together)
falafal in a pitta with a olive oil and a selection of sauces (tabasco, sweet chili, jack daniels honey bbq sauce etc.) and i’m gonna use atmosphere for my next board game sounds like a blast!
A card-carrying gaming magpie here. Got Twilight Struggle for my birthday last April and it’s just hit the table for the first time. Got Sedition Wars in February and haven’t played it yet. Not to mention about a dozen minis games I’ve got and never played.
Another good show, keep them coming 🙂
M113Cs as sci fi transports – there is no reason why that could not work. Many sci fi transports/APcs that are available are similar as it is anyway.
White Cheddar and Irish Whiskey
a hamburger with some peanut butter is quite nice, or battered onion rings dipped in hot chocolate sauce, or a sprinkle of chilli powder in black coffee, simple, effective and not too adventurous
Best part of the week!
Got to be Mexican to start a game session off! Beef Chilli tacos, with lots of Monterey Jack cheese, jalapeños and salsa on the top! Messy, but always a great when accompanied by a Stella Cidre! The spicy food is cooled and refreshed by the crisp cold cider! Awesome! I’m hungry now 🙁
Luther Burger.
It’s a burger with extra bacon, cheese, and a halved donut in place of the bun.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luther_Burger
You should get him to try some Pickled Beef Testicles (Mountain Oysters)!! People actually eat that!!! UGH!
Clearly you guys should eat (and discuss at lenghth) this British (and Irish) classic
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/faggotswithoniongrav_3899
Time to claw back some terminology!
Very simple; one of my mate’s home-grown jalapeños. I’ll mail it over.
Kangaroo
Possibly a little pricey in the UK but if you can get some WORTH IT
Bring on the Night Troll!
Ozzy Osborne did a cover of that Buffalo Springfield Song… now that’s something you have to hear 😀
I have heard it and it is awesome!!
I think a them eating Bulls Penis would be pretty hilarious.
Buffalo chicken bacon wrapped jalapeño peppers.
Caviar!
Haggis rolls
I love mansions of madness, it has been played soo many times at our games nights.
Great quality video as always!
I have perfect cusine for you. Its traditional food time. This is one of the finnish traditional food it might look littlebit disturbing but should taste enible (some really like it).
http://cookingfinland.blogspot.fi/2011/04/mammi-traditional-finnish-porridge-or.html
There’s an East London delicacy of Eel Pie and Mash. It’s not far to a traditional East End pie shop from TTN…
Yorkshire pudding and strawberry jam. It’s an old family recipe. Yorkshire pudding must be cold.
Loving the board games
Nice Video again.
I have to say I was going to come up with some torturous recipe no one would want to eat, but I thought an appropriate one would be something Vietnamese.
So I suggest Pho, its tasty , and reasonably easy to make.
One recipe is here http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/887634/vietnamese-prawn-pho
Love the weekenders, great job again.
Spanish potaoe omelet, easy to prepare and tasty. But I would like to see warren cooking as we’ll XD
Try a Calamari steak and your drink of choice.
..First of all…..if you guys loved the movie you “MUST” see this….. 😀 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJnvw9QpQmE
You guys had me at cheese! Great selection of board games on top of it, friends at home here love Battlestar!
…Now…on with the food!!!!……Here´s a traditional an awesome receta mexicana……..i personally i loved them chock full of cheese and crema!!!!!!!!!!!…. 😀 http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/chilaquiles/
Sushi, Saki and game of Bushido.
Squid ink soup, it’s actually pretty tasty but it looks horrendous. Would be pretty good served for a game of arkham horror, cthulu’s tentacles bobbing disturbingly out of the inky blackness.
So what your saying is Buffalo Springfield foresaw we would not be able to talk about GW releases on line. Wow that’s deep sh*t man.
Another good video guys – thanks
Try stinky tofu
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinky_tofu
How about some steamed artichokes with gorgonzola cheese dipping sauce. Very tasty.
Warren: If you’re looking for some 15mm Starship Troopers-esque bugs try Khurasan Miniatures line of Feral Parasachnids. Here’s a picture of one of their box sets:
Proper sushi is something that I have always wanted to try.
a Mcdonalds burguer since that is not food!!!
How about Tiroler Gröstl? It’s basically left over meat (usually pork), bacon, potatoes, onions and herbs all fried together with a fried egg on top. Simple and tasty. There’s a pretty good recipe on the bbc website even if they do call it Austrian Hash for some reason.
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/67611/austrian-hash
On the subject of board games I really ought to buy more but I keep getting distracted by new shiny wargame stuff.
Some Carolina BBQ with vinegar-based sauce. Complete with traditional sides like cole slaw hush puppies.
I picked up the Blasphemous Cocktails recipe book on Kickstarter and I’ve been meaning to have a Cthulhu Cocktail Night. We’d have some horror themed drinks and play Arkham Horror. I’ve also backed Cthulhu Wars and Cthulhu Soundscape, which would be perfect.
All those boardgames are ones I’d like to see played. Especially Fortune an Glory. As far as cuisine, there’s always green eggs and ham.
In honor of ‘Nam’ week it’s got to be ‘Congee cháo’ a Vietnamese rice based porridge dish. It’s what happens when a tin of Ambrosia and Super Noodles have too much to drink one night and wake realizing things will never be the same again…….
Obscure sushi. That’s all.
Food dares? I’d never be brave enough, but have you tried chocolate covers scorpions? http://www.lazyboneuk.com/categories/Edible-Insects-/
wow mansions of madness is cool !!!!
Justin should try a perogi. They are amazing lush. I’d come done and bring you some.
sounds wierd, but tastes really good…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czernina
I would suggest a dutch delecasi. Carrot stew with sauseges
Gotta wonder if Warren will add more videos of gameplay then just Vietnam (great as the game is though.)
feed him 1 of the following haggis ,spring rolls( all veggie egg roll) ,stuffed artichoke ,black egg, pickled pigs feet, rocky mountain oysters, grilled grub worms,or live mealworms.pick your poison and enjoy most of these are really good eats. Only 3 of them i would not touch.
P.S. here is a good link for your takeout boxes http://www.ecrater.com/p/14452290/100-white-chinese-take-out-boxes?gps=1&id=52211034499#image-zoom
A deep fried mars bar – Scottish delicacy!
Shepherd’s Hors d’oeuvres
Slice of orange, slice of cheddar, and a slice of onion all stacked on a saltine cracker.
well guys do you want to try some german food? and btw iam not from bavaria but i liked it so much that it is my favourite food: mashed potatoes with Sauerkraut 🙂 and a nice cooked knuckle of pork.
i hope i get the right translation by the way, on german it is called Kartoffelpüree mit Sauerkraut und Eisbein. Delicious. If anyone wanted to try it just send me a message and i wil send you a recipe of myself.
How about a nice goats cheese and garlic mushroom calzone. Mmmmmm calzone.
Chicken feet ftw!! Surprisingly tasty when cooked right.
Chicken and Waffles !! Never suffer when there is gooooood old Soul food to consume !!http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/the-cookworks/chicken-and-waffles-recipe/index.html
But for the more daring, some good old mexican style http://mexicanfood.about.com/od/authenticfamilyrecipes/r/Menudo.htm may hit the spot !!
For our gaming session cant beat deep dish pizza with good micro brews
Why not try the Vietnamese national dish of Pho. It’s a noodle soup.
Always liked the laidback nature of the Weekender, its a refreshing change from the more serious tutorial gameplay centred videos throughout the week
as far as food goes: beer mac n’ cheese, simple just switch out the milk in maccorini for your preffered beer, this is a Canadian recipe so I suggest Kraft Dinner and Molson Canadian for the beer
Greens for Green Mercenaries!
VEGGIE LASAGNA
healthyrecipes.wikia.com/wiki/Yummy_Veggie_Lasagna
great show again!!!
on the subject of things for justeen to eat…..he does not like veg.. so get to the supermarket exotic friut section.
dragon fruit looks great(looks can be deciving lol)
grenadillo is another great fruit to try on him
all these have minimal prep so you wont need a chef.
another thing is the fish section or meat isle of deli for crocodile tail or carp(yes you can eat the pleasure anglers target fish)
happy hunting… also liked the idea someone else posted of the mountain oysters
SURSTRÖMMING? http://www.dlc.fi/~marianna/gourmet/surstrom.htm
If you do get the sci-fi 15mm starship troopers game going may I suggest deep fried ants as the accompanying snack… Perfect little salty bites to go with a good beer.
I think Justin should eat pie barm.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/plip/254042456/ (SFW, not my Flickr, needs gravy IMO)
It’s hardly sophisticated eating but it’s brilliant.
Eat a pot of risi bisi.
You must try …. PIEROGI! (Polish dumplings). You should love it. Here is a recipe:
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/pierogi-polish-dumplings/
You could try some extra salty Dutch liqourice mixed in with some sweet so you won’t know when you have the salty one.
dutch liqourice = drop in dutch if your trying to find it and if I spelled liqourice right
Good show. If you going to try something for Justin what about:
– pie and liqure (east London classic)
Or
– banana wrapped in smokey bacon on scewers grilled or on the BBQ.
If you can find it, try some Nattō (fermented soy beans).
Certainly an aquired taste, but lovely once you get your head around to it.
Can be enjoyed in a variety of recipes:
http://www.japancentre.com/recipes/natto-fermented-soy-bean-recipe-ideas
Perfect for a game of Bushido.
Jellied eels.
Barbequed Black Forest Cake. You wrap a piece of Black Forest Cake up in tin foil, so the melting cream won’t leak out. But make sure the top is open so you can still see the cake. Then put it on the grill for like 5 minutes. When the cherry sinks into the melted cream its ready. Get a spoon and enjoy a rather different dessert.

Battered squid! One of my personal faves!
PIZZA Chicago style
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago-style_pizza
🙂
Here you go guys some Guinness Cupcakes…
http://albanybakingadventures.blogspot.com/2013/03/one-of-most-wonderful-times-of-year.html
…or try some Maple Bacon Ice Cream…
http://albanybakingadventures.blogspot.com/2013/07/maple-bacon-ice-cream.html
Have a good one guys!
For carnevale/spartacus etc – Some crusty continental bread, a pot of olive oil mixed with balsamic vinegar for dipping. A pot of olives, some cured meats, capers, anchovies and various pickles. Dream.
Gotta go with tuna mayo and black pudding sadwich’s. Sounds awful but are soooooo nice!
Loving Vietnam week. Wish i could get it going here.
I recommand Satarasch.
750 grams of pork
5 tablespoons oil
4 potatoes (s)
2 rod / s leek
1 pepper (s), red
1 pepper (s), green
2 onions (s)
4 clove of garlic
6 tomato (es), peeled, fresh or the box
1 tbsp paprika, sweet
1 tsp thyme, shredded
250 ml beef stock
3 tablespoons tomato paste
Salt and pepper
If you make it without meat it will be a good dip for white bread and chips.
Try out fermented soy beans. It’s a bit if an acquired flavor, but it makes for great first time taste test. Pick them up at your local Asian market. Usually you can find them frozen.
My friends and I play Talisman with either one of the Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones sound track on. That is pretty atmospheric 🙂
Mansions of Madness looks pretty amazing!
Magnus is one set I really have wanted to get my hands on 😉
how about a nice “Poutine” from Quebec. (french fries with cheese curd, in a nice poitine sauce.) hope you can find it around your place.
Fried squirrel. Never tried it myself, looks monstrous, but according to Duck Dynasty its delicious. The brains are apparently the best part. 😛
A plate of sushi with some wosabi. I like it 🙂
Need to try some good ol Welsh Rarebit
Great video. Here is an…unusual recipe that I found online:
Cicada Chips:
http://deep-fried.food.com/recipe/cicada-chips-231490

two weetabix:es without anything to drink
I’d love to see you guys eat some durian!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian
i love this competition im a chef. i think that justin should try escargo (snails) in garlic butter or foi grais.
One thing I’ve tried that is just incredible is a hamburger topped with lettuce, mayonnaise, bacon, Spam, and…peanut butter. Over here in the States, I eat those like there’s no tomorrow!
How about Venison and Barley Stew with Rhubarb pie for desert.
Didn’t they make a starship troopers tabletop gamea few years back?
Awesome Vid with genius ideas guys.
How about sasumi which has raw octopus in it.
What about some nice fried geoduck?
Chocolate dipped, fried, candied thick cut applewood bacon

Watching this show is the best start to the work week.
Fried spiders, Fugu, monkey brains (for that traditional Indiana Jones experience)
I think justin would love to try snails
I am so hungry after reading these comments. I need to eat breakfast.
I think Justin needs to try Thai Green Curry with Jasmine Rice. It will open up his enjoyment of Thai food.
Chocolate covered crickets on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Could be tasty?
Bacon cheesecake, enough said.
Take a slice of cheesecake and jam 3 pieces of bacon in and taste heaven. Sweet with salty and smooth with crunchy all in one package.
hmmm food for Justin to try… bacon dipped in Ass Reaper hot sauce (its an actual brand)
I have a recipe in mind for LARP – I play an Ogre and thought “What would make Toad-in-the-Hole more Ogrish”…
Sausages wrapped in Bacon and Minced Beef in the Batter!!
German Potato Salad … mmmmm
Great Vid
Great Vid
Roasted Parsnips
some fun looking games
I still haven’t played Arkham Horror despite owning it for nearly a year but I think that may be more of a worry about the game length… Otherwise I’ve been trying to get as many unplayed games on the table, Dreadfleet finally saw the light of day last week as I tried to force non-gamer friends into the hobby (and with a considerable amount of success).
Food-wise it’s a simple choice, Surströmming, a Scandinavian rotting fish delicacy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surstr%C3%B6mming
Try some massaman curry, ^^
how about a cucumber sandwich with avocado, banana peppers, red onions, spinach, and mint leaves on a pistolet with a fully loaded bloody mary to wash it down.(add a shot of gennis to the bloody mary it makes it ten times better) .
Raw sea urchins are a good one, love to see Justine tackle one of those. On a side note you should set up a bored game night at TTN, be a great way to meet new people and play new games.
15ml starship troopers you say… In!
Or just plain oysters…
another great vid , a little different then others but good- my recipe is http://www.marxmail.org/archives/december98/guinea_pig.htm fried guinea pig saw this on a food network show. Figured you could be the guinea pigs for tasting this one.
So many exciting things in our future!
great show.
i’d have you try a welsh full cooked breakfast. lavabread, black pudding, oatcakes, cured smoked bacon, fried duck egg and mushrooms. served with a pint of Brains beer. perfect for a saturday morning:)
Justin! Would love that Magnus the Traitor box…so, I shall betray your tastebuds with this amazing specialty from South Korea. Yes, I did try silkworm and no, I did not enjoy eating bugs. Although, it isn’t nearly as bad as I expected. Go to an Asian market and they’re sure to have them around somewhere. This video will give you an idea. Dig in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF6qHKUq15E
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF6qHKUq15E <—Korean silkworms are a lovely treat. They aren't nearly as bad as they sound, but worth a Magnus the Traitor starter box 😉
Chinese Turnip Cakes – taste like the smell of a market at the end of a trading day 😛
http://appetiteforchina.com/recipe/turnip-cake-law-bok-gow/
Justin and Warren need to try Durian fruit. It’s like Marmite, either love it or hate it…if you can get by the smell.
You cannot deny the great qualities of normal pizza. Easy to eat, doesn’t leave a huge mess, can find it almost anywhere, doesn’t get your fingers dirty, everybody likes it. It’s tried and tested by nerds all over the world. ALL HAIL THE GREAT HYPNO PIZZA! ..wait what. Do your worst toppings Warren.
Great show!
You should try the Locro http://exposebuenosaires.com/argentine-locro/ with wine.
really good!
Bernohn
The food episode, wonder what’s next.
Great show as always.

Maltese Pastizzi
I would have Justin and Warren try something from Germany, so called Maultaschen:
http://www.tasty-german-recipe.com/maultaschen.html
It’s GCHQ by the way, not GHCQ… we’re watching!!!
This all looks cool
