I remember when GW deleted their forums, part of me believes they just can’t take criticism very well, when in doubt, pull the plug! I admit I have done my fair share of commenting on GW facebook status asking why their prices are so high in Australia.

Wild West Exodus I note is flirting with a “not Firefly” group on individuals. Homage to the classic semi futuristic semi wild west genre concept.
Would be interested to hear how long it actually takes to edit one of these videos, because other than adding the adverts, putting up images and links, and beeping out Warrens extra work, it doesn’t look it it should take too long, but I imagine it is actually a lot more long winded than most people would think.
There are lots of stages that I’ve seen the guys work on including balancing the audio throughout (there are multiple microphones each with their own settings to tweak). There is also the video conversion work so that it can be uploaded and accessed easily by the various video channels.
Of course, to me its all sorcery…
I’ve seen my dad take two whole days (9-7 without a lunch break) to finish a one hour episode of Eastenders, though admittedly he has to add more sound like kettles boiling etc, but I agree, when watching someone, it’s all sorcery, what with all those self moving knobs and thousands of buttons…
Great episode guys, loved it. Have to say Justin (The supreme Emperor of the planet Mongo) was on fire this episode!! I don’t think it will be long now till Justin gets his very own golden clipboard of doom (complete with certificate)!! I have noticed in this episode that justin is growing his hair a bit. Is this the beginnings of a combover? 😀
GW local stores still have their Facebook page up, so it’s not all bad for those people that use it. It’s just a shame that GW HQ don’t have the TSKNF and have fled off of the nearest table edge, hehe.

Looking forward to the Mercs videos and I am sorry if you (@Warren) struggle with length issues, I personally don’t, hehe. I have only played Mercs once, and have to say I LOVED the models and the action priority with the dice. I did struggle though, using the template to move, not that I don’t have opposable thumbs, just that it made the movement phase feel kinda clunky. Hopefully you guys will enlighten me with your lengthy assets. 😛 Oo Err!!
Damien’s model is indeed very splendid!! However, I thought it amiss that there was no indication as to what inspired him for his paint job. Please try harder. hehe 😀

My eyes were opened last night in Drogheda to the substantial amount of Gamers that are around my area. The players I met are HEAVILY invested in Warhammer and 40K, best of luck to them too. Unfortunatly it doesnt appeal to me mainly because of its Mechanics.
I was thinking though, how could a new game possibly try to ween players from this system?
Ive no answer to that by the way..Im hopeing Rick and Co do !
I had a fun game of DreadBall though, and there seems to be some intrest in it so thats good news as Im in all the way to Season three with KS. It also helped that I snatched Victory from defeat on the verry last roll of the game, scoring 4 points ! Thanks for the game James if your reading.

I’m a huge fan of MERCS, I cannot wait for this week to start. I’m hoping it might generate some more interest in my area.
I find it funny that GW gets rid of their Facebook page the week be for this Fliers supplement comes out. This fliers supplement that seems if it was from any other company it would have been a free download. Its only 72 pages has the Crappy dog fighting rules from the waste of money Crusade of Fire. It s a flier supplement with NO NEW FLIERS unless you count that the Templars and standard Marines get the Storm Raven. What about fliers for the Eldar, Tau and Tyranids? No wonder there was no advertising for this and its direct only, they didn’t want people to know exactly how much there isn’t in it be for they payed for it. This supplement really makes me feel like GW is just trying to pick my pocket. These changes should be available for free IMO. I made the mistake of buying Crusade of Fire, I won’t be repeating that mistake. I apologize for the rant.
Good episode, Mercs week will be interesting but think it may have to be passed over as there are only so many systems a man can play – just picking up 2 more currently. On the other hand it is great to be at a point were you are looking and going there are so many support and solid systems – too many in fact for one man.
On the GW thing, we don’t no the reasons but historically they have been uneasy with open community interaction. I hope that doesn’t extend to FW and black library.
BS XL interesting and tempting. Currently don’t as there hasn’t always appeared to be enough content to justify that, that could be an informed view of course.
Oh and Firefly board game very cool, but think your right if that will bring across the character of the series is another matter.

I think putting MrDee’s alice on the front page was an excellent move, I’m a big fan of painting even if I’m not do good at it myself, showcasing some of the really talented people in the painting forum is very welcome from me, they deserve the exposure.
I wish Kickstart would crawl into a hole somewhere and die…It’s too oversued now.

Not sure that it needs to die. I think Kickstarter (or crowd funding in general) has been a huge influence on the industry in recent times and though a degree of weariness seems to be creeping in, I’m still impressed with many of the projects that crop up.
I suspect crowd funding is here to stay, but will mature and evolve as technology and the community influence it.
If we keep saying “Kickstarter”, when we actually mean “crowd funding” will Kickstarter lose their trademark 😮
Crow-d fun-ing? What’s that? Kickstarter is a word in the dictionary right? It means to start a project that people choose to support with cash.

Really have a big problem with this weeks ‘Weekender’ — Its too SHORT!! ;D I have so much fun watching these but these seem to be getting shorter .. but methinks the Carnevale game happening downstairs has something to do with it. REALLY looking forward to Mercs week as I am just learning myself.
Also looking forward to a week of mercs. After all the talk about it I can now get to see what all the fuss is about. Also happy to hear that more stuff is coming through for the back stagers. 🙂
I think that Firefly has other options than Reavers for a war game for example the Unification War.
I’m not looking for a new game but can’t resist a game where all you need is a small starter pack. So looking forward to mercs week.

As for backstage for all of you that don’t subsscribe, it’s cheaper than a monthly magazine subscription but much better quality. Any of the miniatures/wargamming magazines are more advertising than anything else.

I think the thing we tend to forget concerning the internet and marketing and such, is really quite simple even negative PR is good for business.
Thus you have Games Workshop and everyone knows that no other game maker, {ERR- excuse me I mean model company} out there can upset the gamers better.
As long as you can stay front row and center people will buy your product. I mean its to the point that nobody really wants to even look or talk about anything else.
Take BoW for Example these guys can’t even go a day without some mention of this really horrible and broken war game. Its got to be some kind of evil corporate empire psychology I.E.”mass mind hump”, transpiring here.
Trying to get these guys to do some serious privateer press coverage, like strategy or something past the now sub par unboxings. Is like sucking face with a pit viper and hoping not to get bit.

Interesting thoughts DPC, your comments have got me thinking a little bit about a few topics – not including looking for a pit viper for you, of course 😉
No-one can deny the huge impact GW has made and continues to make on the hobby in general (although obviously not everyone’s personal hobby). Its less of a ‘mass mind-hump’ and more about addressing issues that influence the entire gaming community as a whole. As @warzan said in the show: GW are a company that makes the news, whether for the right reasons or not. Its right that the BoW cover it.
I had a great chat the other day with Kev Bryant from PP’s Press Gangers and he has worked with the Beasts of War guys on a vid regarding his experiences at Templecon as well as joining in on one of our legendary sub-par unboxings where we discussed some of the new Gargantuan models and the latest Colossal. Be sure to catch it, assuming that we haven’t completely driven you away by then 😉
Like the majority of games gw allowed me to discover the hobby (through heroquest and battle masters). I don’t like the corporate direction they’re taking. Very rarely play 40k anymore as quite simply the last two versions have been broke. However i am not going to sell up my models. I just will carry on playing warhammer, quest, man o war, necromunda, gorkamorka et al. And use my models in other games. Doesn’t mean i am a blind sheep. What it means is i am not stupid enough to have wasted 22 years of my life and money. Seriously dawn chapter patrol smile. It releases endorphines and makes you feel happier.

I agree nor will I sell my blood angels or my necrons or my orks. Due to time investment more so than cash flow. Money is like women it comes and goes.
However I do still play games warmahordes keeps me interested in war gaming
along with malifaux my 40k just collects dust or sits in my battle foam.
My frolic through the grim dark started with fifth edition. So don’t see me playing any other GW games. Due to the vulgar display of ignorance in regard to the direction as listed.
Hey I’m ok with people playing whatever game they desire, I just want a freaking Privateer Press week thats all.

No need to worry about getting people going in your direction, I can pretty much guarantee that 40k is only one of about a dozen systems that are getting equal love here at TTN and that is bound to have a strong influence on BoW coverage over the next year.
Just have a little faith and patience! The guys only arrived a couple of months ago and they’re working like demons to deliver massive support to all these games.

Granted I cut the fool and rattle this forum quite a bit but I try to do it in a fun way.
This being said I have real issue with a number of different things that GW has done to not only the hobby stores online but also the slap in the face they give us the fans of this hobby.
I kind of felt that you guys were like making reference to us out here about not knowing what is going on and the creating of ideas and such to try and figure out what is going on.

There are alot of people longtime players who have been in alot longer than I making the same connections that I have and even better than I could,
I feel that our concerns in reference to the hobby are valid even the ones that are mad ramblings birthed from being soaked to the tune of thousands.
I kinda feel there are companies like PP and mantic that don’t shove the war gamers around.
After a 5 year hiatus I am coming back to gaming. No idea what any of the games are now except the GW stuff.
Discovered this site by pure accident and have spent all day on it so far. Yay 3 day weekends.
I know people are entitled to their opinions and a lot of people are upset with GW, but kudos to Warren for rising above it.
Let’s not forget GW are a business first and foremost and though pricing may be a hot topic, we still buy their product.
And their quality on the whole is excellent.
Really looking forward to thie Mercs week, this will be my first “xxxxx week” on Beasts of War and am curious to see what its all about.

The removal of the GW’s facebook just shows the company’s unwillingness to talk to people directly. Instead they want you to go via the local store, which they hope will put a positive spin on all events as you have a “friendly” face to talk to.
Problem from my perspective is I was driven away from their stores by the hard sell and poor customer service, the guy only cared about making a sale and suggested a codex a month before a brand new one came out, it was before I found BoW, so I stopped buying from them as to me they weren’t a friendly face who saw me as a gamer, they were a staff member that saw a walking wallet.
I know they are a business and have to make a profit, but good customer service should be at the heart of everything they do and in my experience it is not.

Some interesting points being raised here and I have to admit I do agree with some of the views.
This is my opinion and I know not everyone will agree to it but I think GW is like Tescos. They have done a great marketing strategy on us consumers that no matter how much we may moan about them we always go back to there stores to buy things. Now I do not agree with GWs constant price hikes and less product for more money thing as to me that isnt the way to retain loyal customer base. But then again GWs marketing is based on a 4 year cycle in which it hopes to bring in new people to the hobby when some may have dropped out.
This is fine and has worked at least for the 25 years I’ve been in the hobby, but as money is getting tight I do think that they need to rethink theirmarketing strategy. I know some of you will say that they are in it to make money then they I will say stop charging top metal price for plastic and finecast.
just my thought on this topic, sorry it went on a bit. Keep up the good work B.O.W it always a pleasure in hearing your toughts on video.
GW don’t do bogofs, special offers, or have loyalty cards.
They do however put horsemeat in the Empire burghers, oops I mean Finecast 😛

Reason we were given after the BS LOTR excuse for no sales is there is never dead stock – as it can be recalled and melted.
Of course they could do a sale, promotion customer loyality scheme to show support for regular gamers – but that would be valuing the customers so guess not.
My LFGS had a LoTR sale late last year.

There entire argument about forecast was that unlike metal you can’t remelt it and that was why it cost more than metal. Lets face it. Those days are gone of gw sales and offers. They are run by greedy suits now and not hobbyists. Not a bad plan for a business in general. But not a great one when we are all hobbyists and so many new games are coming through that are equal to and superior to gw games and models.
stu was saying about the minature everyone can buy… that is an option on the wild west exodus kickstarter and if i had a spare 2 and a half thousand pounds i would do that (the $3,500) also looking foward to the firefly board game and i’m hoping your prediction of a new series proves well founded! although the various actors look a lil older now… Hope you all enjoyed carnivale! and may look into becoming a backstager if my card comes through
As far as I know they have actually changed Finecast / possibly changed all the moulds. Not entirely sure which one, but it’s different from what the guy at GW told me, and I also have 2 “new” Finecast (this was in Dec 2012) and 100% I could tell the difference.
Just to be fair to GW…. though I would imagine it cost them a LOT to re-do Finecast… which is quite a price tag to fix something they should have got right form the start.

The GW news is almost surreal for some of us. Sure, I’ll get my interaction with them at my local shop, why not! Let me just hop in my car and drive 330 miles down there. As has become their habit, GW are trying to run a company selling globally with an incredibly provincial mindset that doesn’t seem to understand that we don’t all live in the UK with a GW shop around the corner.

Stu’s mug looks like it gets bigger every week though so I guess that makes the guys appear a bit smaller in relation to it.
By the end of the year the mug will be so big that Stu, Lloyd, Justin and Warren will be presenting the show isitting n Stu’s mug of tea, as it will be like a nice beverage jacuzzi.

Definitely been waiting for MERCS Week. I’ve been interested for a while, but there’s no shop support and no players in my area that I could find, so I’d have to be the one to create a beachhead if I go for it. Hopefully the week will sell me on it, at last.
