TURN 8: bad news… more bad news and a glimmer of hope!

So there you have it guys...
After a week where GW put the kibosh on international sales and announced a price hike and a move to resin, we get bombed off YouTube and yet still come on to give you a few hours of television!
Thanks for all the messages of support, we'll keep you posted when we hear any news about our video status.
Otherwise, enjoy TURN8 and we'll (hopefully) see you in two weeks.
BoW Andy

Pitchforks at the ready, storming castle GW tonight then?
Or has Darrell taken the defibrillator machine from the old folks home?
Which one?
You don’t actualy think they only have one, have you seen thier prices?!
Certainly going to be very controversial tonight, can see a lot of discussion coming from the recent GW news…pretty big stuff.
Would be great to hear some more about Cutlass! to be honest.
Another price hike, I might as well pull my pants down now and get it over with.
Call me immature, but its nice to hear other people swear at GW besides myself, like a turn 8 group therapy session
Justin,
You forgot to clean the display cases and dust the cabinets.
I’ll say this : I’ve stopped swearing at GW, and started commiserating with the ones who still do… Because it means they’re STILL buying stuff from them.
Granted, I still express my disparaging opinion on most of the GW range, with few notable exceptions, but I’ve made the switch YEARS ago to more pleasurable uses of my time and money… Way back when the 4th edition WHFB was the norm !
I don’t know if I’m going to make it to the chat tonight, so I’ll say this right now : There’s a lot of people who bitch and moan, here, everywhere, all the time. Isn’t it about time they did something about it ? Either switch, or take the price hike.
Now is the perfect time to take your business elsewhere, as there is starting to be a healthy competition with a plethora of amazing games out there.
Now, I disagree with this GW price hike, it’s pure, unadulterated highway robbery, I think everything they do is already twice as expensive as it should, if not more, for the lowest quality they can possibly get away with… Most of their miniatures are, in my opinion, plastic caricatures sold at the price of marble masterpieces.
But sometimes, just sometimes, GW makes a model that’s decent, nice even… Something that’s not an insult to the average gamer’s aesthetic sense. And if resin means an increase of those rare occurrences, then I’m all for the switch.
BoW Romain
Very nicely put!
I haven’t bought a miniature from them in years… I buy novels, but since the GK release I don’t even buy their rules anymore since they’re freely available online and GW don’t deserve paying for the crap they make.
The reason I continue to swear at GW is they are systematically fucking over everything about the game systems I used to love.
w00t, looking forward to it.
T’is till complete bull’ that as a working class British man, I end up watching your show on the following day because I need sleep, it lags like a zombie when aired live and you had to appease some Americans. Meaning that I miss opt out on prizes and live chat. ‘Cause the pre show chat is far better than that mid show prize grubbing banter of spam.
Hi Guys
Cant see the video it comes up no longer availsble youtube account associated with video has been closed.? will it be on justin tv?
I seem to get a “this you tube account is closed” message when trying to play the vid
???
Is anybody else getting “This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been closed.”? And this is for all the videos posted by BOW here?
Ooopsssy BOW have had their account closed “BeastsOfWar has been terminated due to multiple or severe violations of our Community Guidelines.”, YouTube is not happy 🙁
swearing…GW copyright infringment…showing non GW content? 😉 BoW broke da intertubes again
Ohhh F.. F.. Fudge it, now how am I supposed to see all those videos now 🙁
LOL…so many posts at sameish time
That is as odd as it may ever get I never noticed anything that they could be violation, except if GW’s legal department hit a higher level of,,,,,, you know what I would say anyway.
W00t since I’m off work ill today I’ll actually get to tune in with you guys for the show tonight.
Dang nabbit!
Oh! Here’s an idea. Bung up the videos to download direct from your site/hosting? What about a bit torrent of the content (assuming BoW are ok with that?)
All that Darrell knowledge… LOST. How dare they! YouTube are so anal about their stuff. I wonder what did this exactly. Hopefully they’ll talk about it on Turn 8.
i must confess this has been a pretty sh*ty week in the world of wargaming. First GW announces its going to rise its prices (again). Now the best wargaming website there is goes down. What next? 🙁
Didn’t realise it was already passed the witching hour!
Time did speed past on winged feet and all that!
Great effort. And BoWJohn joined in the fun somehow in the studio and chatting online too! 😀
Many thanks to all for an entertaining show with much food for thought
ps Hope the grannies went easy on Darrel

Tell me what y’all think of this.
Speaking of dungeon crawlers, when are we going to see some coverage of SoSuper Dungeon explore?
Can someone please give a link to the WH Quest petition? Have a slow connection ATM and don’t fancy looking for it through the video …
Thanks
Found it; http://warhammerquestcampaign.blogspot.com/
I am finished with GW after this international sales ban. It is just the last in a long line of poor decisions. Can’t do it anymore.
All my money goes to Privateer Press now. 🙂
Hear Hear !

I am really saddened by this news and teh affect it will have for gamers in those countries.
I had already decided that other games were going to get my attention but I feel this week has just been too much.
On top of which the superb sculpt by Raging Heroes of Lamassu has had to be withdrawn due to GW saying it was too similar to their old Chaos Dwarf monster. TBH there are some similar characteristics, but the concepts and test shots were in the public domain. Why wait for the thing to go into production before doing this?
GW need to have more belief in their own abilities to produce good products and just market and sell them like 99% of other businesses manage to do, without resorting to these (what seem to be) somewhat delusional policies.
If GW was an individual I am sure that we would be very concerned right now for their mental welfare: it seems like they are having a nervous breakdown at the moment!
Apologies if the analogy is ott but it just seems that way.
I won’t even bother with second hand GW stuff from ebay anymore.
BoW highlight new games and great sculpts. There is not enough time for most of them, but not having GW stuff will open up my limited time and resources for other companies that deserve support.
GW is the evil queen of hearts, a fat dictator that decapitates innocents according to her whim. Usually they only enforce IP towards those who do inferior quality work… But Raging Heroes ? Ah, what a shame ! Their 3D casting is awesome ! And all of that because their model somewhat resembles an old discontinued one (only way better !) and possibly one that hasn’t been sculpted yet !
That’s it. This is the last straw. I have nothing to say to GW except : Die, beast, die !
BoW Romain
Thank you for another fantastic Turn 8. I was sick today so was in bed and able to catch it live. I really enjoyed being apart of the live chat, I thought it was fantastic. Warhammer Quest was the first fantasy game I ever played and it was awesome seeing some of the old models and board pieces. As far as all the bad news, pretty much everybody has said what needs to be said. I just hope you guys get your YouTube account back online and hope every gamer out there a fantastic week of gaming. It’s not about how much we get upset or resent companies or games, but the fun times we have playing them.
40k has the ascendancy due to games like DoW2, CoH etc tactical games that bring you into the world of 40k. Plus for the fact the 40k universe is so huge that you can become your own planetary governor, SM captain or IG colonel. Which does create that level of immersion that gamers like.
Fantasy is obviously in 1 world and you generally have to keep in it context with the time line, so there’s not that level of immersion into the fluff like 40k. You can historically theme your army but wether or not you will have any success on the battle field is another problem (Empire army before the invention of black powder?? empire armies need there cannons etc)
I used to buy ALL my GW products from my local store in Australia. Then afew days ago, I found out that I could buy EXACTLY the same product from England and 50% CHEAPER. Thats notwholesale.. thats just off the shelf. A battle force in Australia costs be $150.00 Aus. The same batle force from England, $72.00Aus!!!!! WHAT THE F#%)#*%&@)$%K!! And now I find out, GW have descided to trash that idea, saying FU Australia you buy more GW stuff than even England does, lets make our profit even BIGGER. Finally I find out today that GW have descided to RAISE prices even more. Well im sorry, BUT F$#@$K YOU Gamesworkshop you bunch of C$#TS. If I can work out a way to import your shit someother way, hopefully illegal, I will do my best. Screw you and your 50% more price hike. Our Dollar is worth more than the American Dollar and where paying MORE now than every. F^%$K YOU.
Yeah, continuous purchase of their “shit” will really get your point across!
Beasts of War getting nuked on youtube, from my looking over of the contract rules and obligations seem to be a failure to follow standard Community Standards, I.E. the advertisements IN the videos. This is an issue because since Google took over Youtube they have been using advertisements for both their gain and the gain of the companies advertising. Since you guys are sending out standard advertisements without benefiting Google, they flagged you. If they were to attack you they might say you guys have broken copyright or privacy rules, which I think is just over the edge on rules. I hope it all works out, just putting out my belief on the information from a Law major’s view from the US.
Definitely a possibility.
But they do allow sponsorship of shows, what they dont allow is playing sponsor messages you don’t own the copyright of (or sponsor messages that will be displayed elsewhere)
We were careful to create everything in house to make sure we didn’t breach this.
But… who knows at this stage
I’ve seen videos on Youtube that had ads inside them, and sponsorships… Plenty of them, well separate from the youtube/google ads. That’s probably not it…
BoW Romain
Great show gentlemen. This was a small movie for the Beast of War crew. I am very excited with the possible sci-fi coming from Mantic. I think Mantic’s Kings of War is the beginning and a gateway to bigger and better choices in both fantasy and sci-fi miniature gaming. Tonight’s show has made my mind up to purchase some Mantic products and support their line. We need to send GW a message that these games are for gamers and not stockholders.
lol… You cannot kill the METAL! ImI
I really enjoyed the show last night.
Of the whole ‘fantasy in trouble’ thing, I think its biggest problem is no , to use marketing speak, unique selling point (USP). 40K has space marines, they are iconic, and I truly believe on of the 10 greatest sci fi concepts of the last 30 years, they are known by people who dont, and never will, play a wargame.
Andy mentioned orcs for warhammer, but its not the same, every fantasy game has them. Yes, they may look different, less muscled, more anamlistic or whatever, but the concept of an orc as a slightly dense killing machine isnt exclusive to warhammer, nothing they have is , and I think thats its problem.
You may say other games have space soldiers, and its true, but 40K has space soldiers, Imperial Guard, and having normal space soldiers as well elevates marines to something else entirely, and thats why it works.
Fantasy is a wargame(of which there are many), 40K is a world, and there isnt another even remotely like it.
The problem with fantasy now is it isnt the tactical masterpiece of 7th edition (you are arguably better with historical gaming for that since the perry/immortal etc plastics came out), and with the hordes its very costly and time consuming(to paint) for a casual player, so it really doesnt have a target market any longer.
Plenty of other games out there to play, even beyond PP stuff, and I don’t just mean RELICS!
Why not try out:
Infinity
Freebooter
Cutlass
Mercs
Dystopia Wars
Something historical
Alkemy
Helldorado
Malifaux
Spherewars
Secrets of the Third Reich
Twilight
Wargods
Armies of the arcana (apparently a good Warhammer Fantasy substitute so I am told…)
And no need to spend money on them to try them out. Proxy the first couple of games. Most of them have at least QSR available for free download.
There is so much out there that is heads and shoulders above what GW produce, just give some of the smaller guys a chance to show you what they can do.
Gavin.
This really is the most important point.
As much as they want everyone to believe it is, GW is not the hobby.
And I largely agree, a lot of the game rules out there are significantly better than the current gw offerings, the same goes for the mini ranges, although to be fair the recent Dark Eldar releases, the engines in particular, are probably the best released all year in 28mm from anyone, they are magnificent models.
I bought a pan oceania starter set off the back of the infinity week here, played some games against proxy armies with friends using the free rules, and its very, very enjoyable, with the little squads and creating your own narrative for the skirmishes its like rediscovering necromunda again.
Yeah, the Dark Eldar releases do rock, although i would argue the ‘best all year 28mm’ bit, but that is just pure personal preference.
Glad your trying something new, Infinity is a great game.
Absolutely, we all like different things, for me personally, in terms of minis released this year for a specific game, they capture the feel of the intended army better than anything else released, I do think there have been better sculpts, but not better models for the tabletop if that makes sense.
I think there are lots of great games out there, the biggest hurdle is player numbers, GW historically were very aggressive towards independents in towns/cities where there was a lot of hobby interest, and, in my experience, thats left lots of the UK where the only recognised gaming shops are GW official ones, and that makes getting anything other than gw stuff off the ground very difficult.
The answer could be tournaments , if a few indies got together to organise such things for various alternative games they stock, but again, the word ‘tournament’ often scares people off, so its difficult.
Another excellent show guys!!!
I am not agreeing with the new price increases but as someone said, GW is now not the only miniatures creator. We have Privateer Press, Corvus Belly, Avatars of War…
well thats the thing GW dont get if they keep pushing the price up then there not going to get new players and that just gives everyone else a chance to gain a bit more ground on them.
BoW Justin
Yes everyone can gain a bit more ground but let’s get real here… does this mean they are going to be as accessible as GW? Never. Somehow I cannot see, for example, a bunch of Privateer Press or Corvus Belli gaming clubs/storefronts opening up across the UK to cater for our needs. All well and good for us hoary veterans that are used to sourcing online but what about the hobby’s future, the kids that look in a shop window and beg mummy to buy “that cool model!”.
This move by GW is massively detrimental to the future of wargaming as “pocketmoney kids” will be buying yu-gi-oh instead or Ben-10 or whatever toy trends are around instead of getting into wargaming because the only games readily available to the widest population possible will be miles out of their price range. Wargaming could very soon be seen as a hobby for the rich only thanks to GW. Fething jokers that they are.
Companies just need to support the independent brick and mortar stores. helping them survive allows the ‘kids that look in a shop window and beg mummy to buy “that cool model!”’ situation to continue.
Of course, players need to support their local independent brick and mortar stores too. Buying online is great, but buying from your LFGS is much better, assuming you have a LFGS that is….. If there isn’t, there should be…… Every town should have a independent gaming store.
This hobby isn’t dead, far from it. There has never been so much choice. You just need to look at the alternatives and buy consciously. It’s great getting x% off the MSRP online, but is saving a few quid on your order so important that you can’t support those that try and bring it to your town?
No, this industry has many problems, but it is oh so far from being dead.
Agreed mate, it’s far from dead but my point is that GW are doing the best they can to kill it. Our lifeblood is the kids and if they don’t get into the hobby, the hobby fizzles out slowly as the rest of us aren’t immortals (yet…mwahahaha) There are HUGE numbers of alternatives to GW, more than there has ever been and that is great but they need to be seen on the street. As you say, people need to support their local stores and push them to expand their products. If you have two armies from a game that your local store isn’t pushing, take them down to the store/club and demo the game and take it from there. WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN MAKE THIS WORK! Don’t sit back and wait for everyone else to do it. The greatest issue facing me at the moment is that the only store in the area is GW certified and only sells their stuff… I doubt my friend running it would have issue with us playing other stuff but it feels a bit taboo for want of a better word to be playing stuff we couldn’t have bought in his store and therefore didn’t support his store by buying. Until this increase I was exclusively buying from his store 🙁
I totally agree @sathos.
It’s like being between a rock and a hard place, but you hit the nail on the head when you say ‘we are the only ones who can make this work’.
Let GW shoot themselves in the foot.
Tell all the FLGSs around the world that the GW price rises are too much and you won’t be buying the models any more.
Tell them that you are interested in x or y game and if they get stock in, you will be spending your monthly GW budget on the new ranges. FLGS are business’ and any business worth it’s weight in salt will listen to it’s customers and act accordingly.
and thats where beasts of war come in showing all the new stuff to every one and as more and more people find us the more it will grow 🙂
BoW Justin
I no longer know what to do… just before this price hike I started buying in some Grey Knights after a 2 years hiatus from the hobby and this time around my missus took an interest so we got the island of blood fantasy box as well…. now with this price hike the hobby is getting too damn expensive (it almost was already, £61 for island of blood?? yeah it has a lot of minis but these sets used to be £40 grrr) so do I leave it at that and treat IoB like a boardgame for me and my lady whilst throwing new cash at Privateer Press again (I’m an ex Pressganger, personal reasons, not a problem with Privateer who are awesome) or do I drop my trousers and take this price hike with tears running down my face from how much it hurts my wallet? 🙁
I feel I am in a similar position Sathos, but have decided to cut my losses.
I can always try and finish off painting what I have and use the models for other games systems.
Guys, first let me say I’m a devoted fan as is my 9 year old son. We love watching the 40k related stuff and have been getting a lot out of Darrel’s VODs. However I am disappointed that you opened the Turn 8 session tonight with a discussion about orgies without any content warning or rating. I think it was funny but had I known what was going to be included, I wouldn’t have tuned in with my 9 year old next to me.
To be clear I don’t want you to censor your content! Please help us parents support BOW by giving us a head’s up about what’s coming up or provide blanket advice that Turn 8 is not suitable for children. Either is fine.
Peace.
@menagerieau Very Good Point
When we have all this other YouTube Stuff sorted we’ll work on a warning system to give parents a heads up on content where we stray a bit.
We do the show later and Turn8 is more for the grown ups, but that doesn’t help you when your watching a recorded stream!
We’ll work up a Parental Warning of some sort – we wont be able to stop youngsters watching, infact if they are browsing on their own they will probably be more likely to click on it, but at least for those that are browsing with their Dad’s you have a chance to skip on by.
Sorry and hope we didn’t put you in too much of a sticky situation.
I’ll see if we can get a basic warning system in place perhaps today, with something a little more sophisticated once the dust has settled on the whole youtube fiasco 🙂
Peace right back bro!
WARNING! Turn 8 contains the following: Alcohol, references to breasts and chesticles and Warren! If you get any of these in you or your children’s eyes, wash out with warm water and mild sedatives, if further symptoms occur, please seek counselling.
Just had a quick huddle with the team and we’ll put a Parental Advisory Badge on these posts on the home pages, but we’ll come up with something for the actual page a bit later (once the video issues are sorted)
Thanks guys. Good luck with You Tube.
The part I am concerned about is all the content you guys have produced painting and building vids. I hope you guys kept a back up of all of your stuff.
I guess, as much as I hate myself for it, all I can really do is to take this price hike up my consumer bunghole as GW are counting on me to do so (and many others).
Sadly I am in no real position to do anything else, the people I play with all play GW games and we play in a GW certified (independant) store that stocks GW stuff, movie stuff and yu-gi-oh lol
Unless they amazingly start stocking something else which I strongly doubt given how much effort they put in to get the GW certification so that they can stock the whole range, I really feel I have no other choice and that is the worst thing of all, being backed into a corner to buy or quit. 🙁
Not I, The game is not worth what they want us to pay…
I don’t think any game is.
Blood Angels and Orks no longer being maintained from 40k…
Warmahordes will get my coin from here on out I am also pulling hard for mantic I love there stuff as well. We need another game company to knock GW down a few notches. Til then Game of Warmahordes anyone ???
I’d love to, and infinity but sadly it wont happen where I am, I can probably get a friend to play warmahordes again but it would be just me and him everytime… BLOODY GW! RUINING EVERYTHING!
This would be a great time to see other game makers to take advantage of a disenchanted player base…
If not I will focus on warmachine hordes although it takes months to recieve an order
Thanks again guys for the show last night (apologies for the long PM Warren). You guys have helped me, and the wider community, out no end & you will always have my full support 🙂
I’d like to thank everyone for their contribution to the Warhammer Quest petition. It may not get anything done, but it shows interest in Quest is still out there. I’m sure GW have spy’s everywhere if they manage to guard their IP in such ways as they do.
So GW put it to some constuctive USE and give the community Warhammer Quest back & I hope you’re taking your costumers interests & views over the last few days onboard (if you ever do that is) : )
In the meantime I’ve got some Mantic stuff to buy : )
I sent an e-mail to Wyrd mini’s saying to get their products on your show, thus:
I highly recommend you try to get some of your Malifaux products on to the
Beasts of War unboxings. I think that you could cash in massively on the
disillusioned customers leaving GW (myself included) and that coverage will
help to push your fantastic products forward as the prime candidate for
these customers to turn to.
and I got this back within 15 seconds…
Good idea. 🙂
when i was at salute i saw a game which was like an englich civil war during the 30s and i think it was called ‘very english civil war’ and it looks awsome
i need to find out who makes it to start it
@panzergrenadier101
A Very British Civil War is not a rule set in itself.
It is a series of source books created by ‘Solway Crafts and Miniatures’ (http://solwaycraftsandminiatures.webs.com/books.htm). It designed to give you all the background you need to create games set during the ‘British Civil War of 1938’.
You need to find a set of rules to use for your games. rules like Flying Lead (http://www.ganeshagames.net/modern/) or some other set you feel happy adapting to fit. We use Flying Lead for out AVBCW games at my local club.
Hope that helps mate.
Gavin.
Google “A very British Civil War” … hope that helps
Sorry I missed you live, guys. Great show nonetheless.
My treasured gaming moment: listening to Slayer’s Divine Intervention whilst playing a brand-new game of Space Marine with my father.
Epic joy, all these years later.
If anyone is interested in platoon to company level sci-fi (-ish) engagements, I’d recommend the best-kept secret of wargaming: Secrets of the Third Reich 1949. Fantastic game system, lovely minis, zombies, werewolves, giant mecha… everything you could hope for in a TTWG!
Keep up the great work, guys! Cheers!
I admit i was afraid of what you guys would say about the GW situation. I was afraid you would sugar coat it or avoid the news altogether, and now i am relieved that you called it what it is. I appologize, but i admit i had you guys pegged the wrong way. You have only confirmed the reasons why i have Beastsofwar.com as a bookmark in my daily websites i visit. I am happy i found a great source of news and completely unbiased information. You guys rock!
It is sad for me because GW held a special place in my heart. 40k was the reason i got into miniature gaming so long ago. My hobby and pretty much everything involved with all my hobbies started there. Now i reluctantly have to boycott them due to the recent changes.
Anyway, onto your glimmer of hope: I literally hopped out of my chair cheering when you showed the Mantic leaks, and im at work watching this. I love mantic’s product ranges and have only heard rumors of them venturing into scifi. What you showed me provides hope. Hope for mass battle miniature wargaming i very much look forward to.
You guys are the greatest site on the internet for news and you spare no expense to bring us great shows and coverage like this. I salute you, beastsofwar!
I can remember when I first started golledting 40k a while back…. then a box of 20 Imperial Guardsmen cost £15. Now we’re looking at £18 for half that number of minis! It always was a bit expensive as a hobby, but this just takes the cake.
Luckily, I have already begun the move to other system. Have some FoW minis, and I really enjoyed the games of Aeronautica Imperialis that I played (and that was only three miniatures on either side!), and I’m about to get into Dystopian Wars for a nice change of pace. Unfortunately I was also rather unlucky in that one of the games I started to transfer too was AT-43 (really nice IP, pity about the company going BUST :P)
It’s nice to have your videos, keep it up!
Yes, I remember those Guard boxes. How about the same cost for 36 Squats?
Aeronautica Imperialis is an fantastic game, and one I hope others will check out. As a matter of fact, basically all of the GW/FW ‘Specialist Games’ are great! BFG FTW!
Yeah, I must say Blood Bowl has to take a good lead there, my school wargames club had some guys start Necromunda too. That looked pretty cool, unfortunately I never managed to get my act together and play there too.
I’m going to be popping along to my university wargames society soon to see what people are playing there as well (only just discovered that they existed :P)
I would like to thank you, turn 8 was brilliant and I have decided to take your advice and try hordes instead of warhammer 40k. something different and some thing that I think I might enjoy. Thank you beasts of war, keep doing what your doing.
Collect the simmer frames and catapult us over the walls
Great show! I have to say with GW it´s a love hate relationship. Everyone has to admit the minis they are dropping off lately are awesome. It is always a question of taste but in general the minis are top and deserve a certain price. BUT, with their price policies they have gone much too far. You have to sell your kidneys to own a decent army. They could at least make more deals for the armies with a decent discount like Mantic does. I really wonder when the shit hits the fan and GW dies with a bang.
@warzan: You said WHFB has not enough fluff and no iconic armies. I think WHFB has a lot of nice fluff but it is not as human centered as 40k. in 40k I sometimes have the feeling everything is about SM and they had to attach some enemies so the game has a reason (exaggeration). In WHFB the imperium is the fraction where the stories of the other armies meet, but it is much less focused on them (for a good reason: Imperium sucks)
Are you guys ever going to do your “Whats not so good about 8th edition fantasy”? Been waiting, and asking, since Warhammer week…Other than that Keep up the good work guys, you all seem like really nice guys, to bad I don’t live in the UK. Anyway been playing WFB on and off for 18 years and my two biggest issues with the game now is that it takes so much time putting all the miniatures on the table, everyone is just playing larger and larger point values wichmeans even more unpainted miniatures. Secondly the whole game seems to be about point denials, theres no point in having small fast cavalry units or any small units, since these just give away points, why isn’t at least one of the scenarios about capturing table quarters? Now we just spend an hour putting up a couple of hundred minis and then shuffle them right across the board and roll a lot of dice (again and agian) until one side breaks or its end of turn 6!
2 words big brother
shame really i always took pride in being part of the gw comunity now i just miss people like dick emery and airfix who always looked for cheeper ways to get kids into the hobby.
hohum looks like those days are well and truely gone sad really.
Any word from the BOW staff on what, youtube did to them…
Wonder if they could send us a blanket email or something with the low down ETC…
They should have the right to atleast retain there film footage.
GOD DAMN YOUTUBE GITS
Nicely Done BOW!
I wish I didn’t have to miss the last half because of work… Oh well, a great show nonetheless.
I look forward to the future shows in the coming weeks.
My issue with warhammer – they keep changing things! For me, the split of undead to vampires and tomb kings was unnecessary… the majority like it as it is now, but the old fluff with iconic characters like Nagash worked well when you had one army book and could theme out the army much in the same way that you can with warmachine now – taking the undead example to cryx; you can have undead pirates, bloated undead, undead knights, witches and so on…
Another factor to consider is that the game is in its 8th edition… come on….. after 8 editions they should have figured out that you don’t need to re-release a whole game or army to make it fresh… expansions and add on’s reward loyal players by keeping the old mini’s useable. When you have to reinvest in the army and game with each release, you get sick of it and swap over to a game that is more ‘veteran’ friendly. That’s why I think allot of older guys get into historical stuff and many are making the change to warmachine. I ENJOY using my 1st warjack in the occasional game, knowing that it is still of use..
i responded to a video put out by BTP on you tube and thought it relevant. here it is:
love the Life of Brian reference. overall an interesting speech. when you were talking about the consumer having the power… yes it’s true… to make another roman reference “the mob is power”… however the mob has no direction and is passive in it’s power… it only re-acts. it rarely acts on it’s own. so given no other choice, or less palatable choices.. it goes where the best meal is. the real power is with the deal makers. those that fund and run the businesses. the mob can only re-act.
if you want to create a more even split of market share, then the competitors need better management and better funding. by your statement about repeated supply issues with infinity i would guess the problem is probably more lack of enough money to meet demand properly. To take a business to success even close to GW would take huge infusions of cash… i wanna go on but character limits. point is, industry leaders, investors and middlemen need to do more to support new start-ups.
to add to that… what BoW is doing here is great… wish they would have a little more focus on other systems.. but time is an issue i know. glad Warmachine is getting the love though.
I think the local games shops need to do more.. promote more non GW events. more communication between them.. their own private networks… to make a comparison the only thing that kept the auto-industry in check in the US during it’s boom was the unions. you need a force to counter balance GW… and right now only the local game shops are in that position. They need to take control of their customers and shift them toward other systems by carrying larger stock of other systems and vary promotion… and damn GW and their pressure tactics.
And yes one can buy from the other side of the world.. but the most valuable asset to gamer are those game boards they can gather around and meet new players. I.e. the community that forms around the game shop. Without them wargamming goes the way of monopoly and sits in the closet to only be pulled out on occasion on a rainy day.
GW is a bit like Windows OS…its not brilliant, but it works and everyone knows it. Maybe an Apple type stragey (1984 style) will work…pssttt want to see something cool, come with me…touch it, want it, try it…..welcome to the cult 😉
Gack…spelking and no edit…..snipped this bit off by mistake:
I do feel the lack of cash fluidity means others struggle vs GW. I want GW to be here still in 10 years…just not the current SoBs, i liked the old GW. The one with a White Dwarf that covered the Industry (DnD, CofC, Traveller, Wargames and others).
Mantic may be able to do it, PP also seem a good contender (they are expensive per mini btw) and Corvus Belli also have a chance (again can be expensive per mini). The historicals seem to be a universe all by themselves but some kids dont sesemed turned on by it…although we often get a “cool” response when we lay out massive roman, ACW or Nappie forces
I quite enjoyed this episode. A lot more enthusiastic than a lot of the recent vids you guys have released. The difference? It’s good to see you having fun. I think you guys sitting around with beer and reminiscing is a good thing that should be a more regular feature. Also review some of the older games from your childhood
Warren and his bro should wing a dungeon crawl batrep series. Just watch out for John turning up with a bundle of tanks from an alternate universe.
Hey BOW Team.
Any word on your youtube channel me and the fellas are still wondering and hoping you get your film back atleast. Send out a email or something when you find out lap top is on in the garage and we are throwing some dice.
Drinkin’ a few for ya 🙂

YouTube has been getting more aggravating recently. scifidebris is leaving it as well. Channel Awesome has done the same.
Perhaps their move to blip is something BoW could do as well. Fewer restrictions on it and there is apparently a way to get paid for views.
GW = greed 🙁
Is turn 8 still up ? i get a justin.tv screen, but when i press play the video does not start up, or is this the yousuckbers problem.
