Happy Sunday
Good morning 🙂
Happy Sunday afternoon from here in Oz
Happy Sunday!
Ideas for 4Ground?
1. I’m still looking for some good generic market place stalls that’ll fit into almost any setting; dark ages, medieval, middle east, fantasy etc. Somewhere between buildings and scatter terrain…
2. Modular religious and other buildings: Many long standing significant religious and municipal buildings are not built using one period or style of architecture. My challenge to 4Ground is a range of buildings that can be placed on the table in a modular fashion, with the ability to include periods/style that fit on that table’s setting, leaving out those that don’t. This could even include magnetised facades and other elements that can be easily exchanged.
3. Damageable buildings, (following on from 2). Buildings that deteriorate through a battle that can support rules that allow for changing conditions of buildings (reduced cover, damage to occupiers, access, defend-ability). Could be similar to magnetised elements that get removed after damage showing change of state.
For 4Ground – I’ve an interest in civilian structures that could be fought around at the moment so perhaps a watermill would be great and give an opportunity something that could be completed with some on the interior detail that these commonly have.
A bakery would be good idea was well, but a brewery would be something that could be gone to town with, there could be loads of barrels, and a dwarven feel to the building.
A warehouse might also be cool – bigger doors on the front so that a wagon could go through, and a spot for a sentry to protect the goods stored within. Maybe the ground floor holds the carts while the goods can be stored on upper levels.
There could be a external pulley system on the outside (similar to those that you see in the old Amsterdam style, where goods are drawn up on a pulley then are loaded into the warehouse through large doors on the upper levels. This could perhaps be modular in that you could maybe add extra floors in as a standard module to get a bit more height.
Haha love this one guys.
I’ve got a drinking horn as well and I’ve drunk many a drink out of it. Don’t fill it up and carry it in your strap on because you’ll spill it. Just some soap snd water then fill it up with mead and you’re set.
A lot of reenactors don’t do the miltary side. Actually most reenactors at these events are either store owners or doing stuff like cooking or crafting. A friend of mine is a leather crafter and while he does have armour and fight, most of his time there was spent crafting. On multiday events they absolutely live in the tents and cook and eat there food all the old way.
I myself am an amature blacksmith and while I haven’t reenacted before (attended a few) if I did I’d be quite happy to just sit down all weekend smithing and teaching people. As a Catholic who can both speak and read ancient Latin I’d also be happy sitting down writing those old school style pages and talking about old school Christianity or just the period in general. For me anything Post Civil War doesn’t really spark my interest. Some Civil War guys will spend a whole week just in character with no observers living the period maybe with some skirmishes and a big battle. That sounds very cool.
For 4 Ground what I’d personally like to see is some seige weapons. Sure they aren’t really that practical but they make awesome additions to a game. Add a few catapults and now your battle turns into a sallying party and adds theme. LOTR Battle Games in Middle Earth had a great pair of scenarios. You had to try and take out the catapults as quickly as possible but those catapults were firing on the other board so you had to decide if you really needed those catapults gone or if you wanted more men in the river crossing.
@warzan check out the “Ars Magica” RPG for an excellent spell creation system similar to the one you are describing. Best magic system in any RPG i have played or seen.
I will!
Lets hope it has the ability to cast MOLTEN BALL!!!!!! 😉
Even in AD&D you could create your own spells. A lot of the named spells were created by player characters from when the game started. Things like Tensers floating disc was created a player with a mage called Tenser. It just took a lot of character and player time and character money to create them
Mage: the Ascension from White Wolf uses a similar system also, which shouldn’t a surprise given Ars Magica was by proto-White Wolf and initially was part of the World of Darkness setting.
Molten Ball – you just know it’s going to be a thing now! 😀
Or old school Rune Quest, Sorcery let you manipulate the spells
You’re right. I downloaded that from (somewhere!) years ago. I think there is lots of potential here. I really don’t think it would slow down things at all. Basically You have a quick description of what you will do and roll the dice to see if you succeed. I don’t think Justine is right here. He is being too blinkered.
But as Warren says, each to his/her own.
Good discussion
For those interested here is the link to the 4th edition. I think it’s now at 5/6th edition though.

Happy Sunday!
Love all the fabled realms stuff.. definitely need to get involved as my terrain options are practically non existent at home.. would love to see 4ground do some evil faction settlements.. orcs or the like.. others on the market are always too spikey or made out of skulls..
A 4Ground Roman Fort/ mile castle would be what I’d like to see one day.
This looks sweet as well tho!
@warzan I´m a german LARP player, sometimes our LARP is going the Living History way.
This is me as a Spanish Musketeer and a Viking Priest, both are characters for typical “german LARP”. We don´t recreate pre existing persons, we create own characters for propper roleplaying.
Also I have a Wizard character and a Pirat.
In germany we have a lot of LARP players who do also Living History and Reenactment with the same Kit. Also popular is a Variation we call “ReenLARPment”, these are LARPs who are settled in an historic event and the players take the roles of people who lived through those events.
So, just do it, go for it and try Living History, Reenactment or LARP.
Hm, no pictures here?
Check the pictures here:

I love these!
Happy sunday!
A sassy comment on a sunday morning, that’s like asking a whale to fly faster. Although, if the whale is plunging down to the surface of a planet, it is a different matter I suppose…
but I digress.
So where are we heading in terms of terrain, what is the next trend? Looking at the Age of Sigmars latest release, the Kharadron Overlords, skies the limit – quite literally. New factions of skyraiding pirates, Elves, menacing Goblins and Skaven will probably follow. Flying ships and fiends a plenty, yet they fight on the ground most of the time.
Well, what about elevating your terrain? “Levitating” docks, walkways, platforms, fortresses, held up by transparent pillars of various sizes. Take away the pillars and you have great terrain for ground battles.
For 4Ground, what about Stalingrad during WWII, or perhaps a fantastical (and smaller) version of La Sagrada Familia?
The splatter romper has already sold out so I reckon blue for Justin. Do we need to put the call out for three ‘Romp-turians’ to take out annual backstage passes?…
I think such a ‘camp’paign would be well warranted! 😉
maybe a light brown coloured romphim suit would match the comic strips from @caesar ‘s channel.
If @warzan and @dignity wear those at UKGE we are getting shirts that say “We are their American Cousins and we don’t understand them either”. With a finger pointing to the side.
If by ‘shirts’ you mean ‘rompers’ then that can be arranged…
@warzan it sounds like Justin would prefer a indie for UK Expo and that’s only fair so here’s a link to a lovely one that will make him look fabulous. I hope you can do some Photoshop magic to show just how good it would look hehe.

Onesie not indie, stupid spell correct
I think he’ll go for this 😉
@warzan I thought so too. But I think he needs a hat to go with it. I am sure you could find something suitable.

In terms of 4Ground terrain my attention is very much turning to the release of Fallout:Wasteland Warfare later this year. I’m thinking about getting on the front foot with gaming tables (as are many folks following the F:WW news. I’d love to see 4Ground build on perhaps their Homeland Apocalypse range – to complement the diner perhaps. A saloon, general store, old school wind turbines, graveyard. Anything 50s style post apoc (or wasteland style that would fit the theme) would be awesome!
The Fort of Fryburg is the missing part in my collection. I like it.
Winter is Coming… 4 Ground terrain for
Harrenhal.
Dragonstone (castle)
Winterfell.
Casterly Rock.
Riverrun.
The Dreadfort.
The Eyrie.
Moat Cailin.
I second the Fallout terrain!
What I’d like from 4Ground are walls of Daldorr. A mix of ruined and intact, with gatehouses, corner towers, etc. Take my money! 🙂
Woo. Having spent several hours catching up I can now watch xlbs on the right day! Here we go…
@warzan I feel you, growing a bead is out of reach for me tok – way too patchy. Let 4ground build you a viking beard kit ;-)..
Why does @warzan need a leather strap-on if he has the horn? Also it’s always a little disappointing when your horn is not for blowing.
Deffo on the romphim at least we would not have to view the epic crack of doom…
Loving the talk on RPG magic, years ago some friends and I played a friends adaptation of Ars Magical, in this game you have fields of magic on one side you have various techniques create, destroy, manipulate, understand and mutate and on the other side you have various forms- fire earth, water, air, animal, plants, illusion, body/flesh and mind. To caste spells you combine a technique with a form to cast the spell you are describing, it was a great system and has led to some of the most memorable games I have played, allowing you complete control of what you could do, depending on how competent with the techniques and forms would influence how effective the spell was and what size of effect could be created.
The other game that has a nice magic system is Symbaroum which I am currently playing and absolutely loving, here magic is seen as an affront to nature, so everytime you use magic or in some cases are affected by it you can gain corruption either temporary or permanent, if you get to much temporary corruption that then becomes permanent, temporary corruption fades away after time but permanent corruption is almost impossible to lose. As you gain permanent corruption your body and mind starts to mutate until you eventually lose control of yourself and become a blight beast. In this game you can also gain temporary corruption by choosing to cheat on a roll or change aspects of story. This works brilliantly as players are always weighing up the risk of using spells/cheats as they do not want to risk gaining permanent corruption.
Oh as a cheeky aside that Four Ground fort would make a great place for my adventuring party to explore, defend or attack in Symbaroum 😀
On to “motlen ball”, I agree with @dignity. Do it in the housekeeping period. Otherwise it overemphasises the role of the spellcaster. E.g.
GM: “some monster appears”
Wizard: spends 20 minutes designing a spell and negotiating its casting cost
Fighter: “I clobber it with my axe”
Fighter: is disappointed in this game
tl;dr detail is great but spells need to be as fast as clobbering things with axes.
The thing about different magic systems, it’s like different RPG systems, everyone has a preference, and it really depends on who you’re playing with. Personally I love @warzan ‘s suggestion, and with the right people it’d be amazingly immersive and dynamic. However with the wrong type of people you’d get people that gamed the system, or it would mean 90% of every fight would be taken up on the mage’s action (with the others going out for a smoke with @justin!). With the right DM/GM though this could be managed to encourage appropriate usage for the group you’re in.
red chambray for dustin is my vote ….and a spotty oversized dickiebow
Happy Sunday!
It would be interesting to see 4grounds take on a modular sci-fi corridor system for AvP, Space Hulk etc.
/Tommy
Did they not preview something like that at Salute one year?
haha being a more rotund gentleman the RompHim would just turn me into a giant man baby. No one wants/needs to see that.
Always been amazed by the 4ground stuff, I would love to see how big they could go. Love to see the 3×3/4×4 interior of a dungeon or castle that once built would actually be the entire gaming surface. Go big or go home 😀
On the subject of DnD does anyone know a system for a younger audience, I want to get into it with my kids but most rules are complex. Perhaps just best homebrew something.
Looking forward to the next hobby night live, my rumble slam is complete from the last time so I will now over the course of that night and weekend paint the Guild Ball 2 player starter set.
@laughingboy
A couple of suggestions:

Are you looking fantasy or will any do? FFG has the Star Wars The Force Awakens Beginner RPG game. I am looking at the box right now. A very straightforward and walks you through it nicely.
“Primaris” – is the new rotund, and as an alternative for me to say – “I’m not fat, I’m heroic scale…” – now I can “I’m not fat, I’m just primaris scale…” 🙂
@warzan
this is one of the best videos I’ve seen on how to make a viking shield
https://youtu.be/YqwUEdUGNAM
Happy Sunday guys. The foreground fort looks great. Would look great with a small shanty town or market outside the gates.
I loath metal miniatures for a quartet of reasons.
1. Super glue. It makes a far more tenuous and brittle bond than plastic cement. A dropped metal mini is all kinds of shattering into many pieces!
2. Converting. It’s far harder to convert a metal miniature because it’s harder to cut than plastic.
3. Paint Chipping. I don’t know why, but metal mini’s seem far more prone to chipping than their plastic cousins.
4. Assembly. They never seem to fit together anywhere near as well as plastics, you always have to end up faffing around with green stuff filling, drilling and pinning.
One thing I do REALLY like about metals though – the weight 🙂
Nothing that a penny stuck under the base of you plastics can’t fix though
Video response to the romphim. Honestly this was the first thing to pop into my head when I saw the “Warren and Justin @ the Games Expo” pic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wRHBLwpASw
Video not expanded, it is SFW though
Happy sunyday and thanks for the nice show! What i really like to see from 4ground is a 17th century harbour crane and maybe a shipyard of the same period.
On metal minis bonding I’ve found a little touch of liquid greenstuff is helpful just have to remove any excess once set,
For 4ground I’d like to see some alien structures looking at halo , mass effect style
Happy Sunday!
@warzan If you would like to play with magic you can always look for Mage: The Ascension. This setting is really suited for creativity and combining different school of magic.
Now, 4ground asked for ideas so here is what I would like to see from them:
1) District I Corporate Building but in 28-32mm scale or any other modern city buildings in this cale. I play infinity and there tons of good buildings out there and no mater how much I love MAS or Zen Terrain buildings those are basically boxes. I really would like to see light, modern buildings in scale which suits SF world.
2) Speaking of SF stuff…. I’m in need of really modular star-ship interiors & corridors with such us you can see in The Expanse, Deep space 9, Babylon 5 or Firefly. Most corridors systems out there are more dead space than actual space station. I would like to put my TO in his bunk for example. Imagine space ship/station done in the manner of shopping mall – main corridor with doers leading to small bunks, engineer and maintenance decks, docking ba bays etc. and with areas made out of pleksi to represent areas where you can actually look out in to deep black space… How cool it will be to play boarding action in such place?
Fort looks niece but I would probably cover the roof with thatch just for aesthetic and because I would like to make it much more in line what you can find in Poland. Also if you could have different wood colors here and there it would be nice.
If you are interested how fortified settlement might have looked like and how the fort please visits below web page of archaeological reserve in Biskupin, Poland.
http://www.biskupin.pl/en/jak-zwiedzamy-rezerwat/
Ufff that was a long one. Have a nice day 🙂
B.R.
L.
What did just watch….lol romphim…. How why what the ….
@commodorerob
The good news is that these rompers will now be the compulsary dress for all tournament teams representing Beasts of War….
To 4ground,
A workable amount of terrain for a 6×4 Dropzone Commander table for under $160 unpainted. Reduced detail, cheaper (but not cardboard or foamed PVC) material, something!
A bridge between the cheaper stuff and the $400 dollar tables
Great seeing you guys in the morning.
Tell Justin it takes a real man to wear pink. Someone who is comfortable in his sexuality.
It takes an even bigger man to wear a new fashion item before it becomes a hit.
If he does go for it , don’t forget the open sandals and socks to complete the ensemble !
metal kits, especially heavy ones, far too easy to break
but I do love the weight
This kistarter is shite like Fuck, Im with you Justin I would go comando too.
@warzan Look at Mage: The Ascension, aka purple book mage, (Old World of Darkness from the 90s) for a magic system.
For the 4 Ground guys: Elves need some love, stop it with the Dwarven stuff (Sorry @brennon but Dwarves have gotten enough love). It’s time to make epic Elven buildings!
that could be an interesting thing to see, for a long time we’ve been used to seeing elven structures as thin rounded towers and arches. Since 4Ground would have a hard/next to impossible time doing that, I would love to see their interpretation for elven buildings.
They have the curved walls on Fyrburgh Fort so I’m betting they can do something, plus the roundedness could come from arches and not the walls directly.
In regards to Magic in RPG’s, the way Warren described his melty spell, a good DM, no matter the system, will allow you to pull something like that off if its cool enough. The rule of cool should always win out in any RPG. That’s what you are there for afterall.
As for interesting takes on “magic”, The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss has a great slant on it. In the book, magic is called Sympathy. Basically the idea is that they use the link between objects to manipulate them. For a simplified example, if you create a sympathetic link between 2 pieces of metal, you can lift one of the pieces of metal and the other will float and mimic your motion. But if you were to try to make a link between a piece of metal and a brick say, the output of power is much less because they don’t share as much in common so you will struggle more.
I believe the idea is you can manipulate the energy but you cannot create nor destroy it, so you are always limited to the pre existing likenesses. Thats my butchered look at it anyway. Its very grounded in my opinion, it feels like a thing that works, almost like science before there was a way to properly recognise it.
As for 4ground, I love the Pagoda style roofs on those watchtowers. Right up my alley. I’d like to see them make a bloody great dam, either a modern day one like in Golden Eye or a fantasy one, either wooden or a bloomin huge dwarven one. Can you imagine it as an under construction kit. With Dwarven cranes hanging off of it, a big section showing the girders inside.
It would be gargantuan! cut a 4′ table in half with the dam thing (excuse the pun). You can have scenarios where the bad guys are trying to flood a city or maybe your party of adventurers have to seize control of the dam in hopes of draining it to reveal an ancient underwater city.
I could go on.
Great show yet again.
on the magic part I agree with Justin, I have played Mage the Ascension, and Magic was a lot like Warren described and it did atleast once a game night take me out of the game with to much explanation.
oh and for 4ground, I would like some morden day scatter terrian (for Batman miniaturegame) maybe some ATMs, raodworker tents, cars and more Gagoyles 😉
I would like to see the guys at 4Ground make a 16th – 17th century Spanish fort to be used for Blood & Plunder or other games that take place around that time period.
Great show folks, I’m surprised @torros hasn’t chimed in on the re-enactment, I know he was big into it here in sunny norn iron. Maybe he’ll give you some insight later 🙂
I’m with you @warzan I don’t think Justin grasped the simplicity of the magic system being tied to the coloured dice. Having a few “general” magic aspects that you build on and then it’s how you interpret it is far more interesting than a list of spells, as an example in a game called Lamentations of the Flame Princess and a spell I’ve learned is rock to mud and vice versa. It seems great in practice but you have to chose what spell you have ready and at no point have I ever cast it, it’s far too situational. Being able to grab elemental die and do the same, or grab your motion and elemental dice to push a wave of rock and mud at attacks when required seems a lot more fun.
For Cad and the guys at 4Ground, that kit has really knocked it out of the park. I love where you’re going in the fantasy kits for my two pence what I’d love to see is maybe some more non building pieces like the play ground.
Having some ship models, along with ships under construction for dark ages, or stalls and wheel barrows, maybe siege towers and weapons for the crusades….of course if you’re going to do that some crusader and muslim defenses would be needed, 15mm or 28 I can find use for both.
But yea I think as lovely as the big pieces are some more pieces to ground the terrain making it look like a lived in area rather than a sterile enviroment. The Rorke’s drift cart, water cart and out house are great examples so more of that please.
Thank you @avernos. I think over the years I built about 20 shields all to what they called ‘looks ok on the battlefield’ standard. Mostly built using 5 or 10mm marine ply ,boss stuck in the middle and rawhide edging added. We used bolts to join the boss and handgrip in place so they could be easily taken apart once the shield was knackered which n some cases could be an entire year or just one fight
Real shields of courses were built using planks and iron or wooden banding across the back to hold them in place.
Warren talking about forming spells from different areas is similar in the way it’s done with Charter Marks in the Abhorsen series of fantasy books by Garth Nix. The Abhorsen has to gather the magic ‘charter marks’ in their mind and string them together to create the spell before they run out of energy and become exhausted
I think 4Ground should go for inserts of dungeons or mines next, they are able rto create fantastic things.
4 ground should make a Viking bike rack like the one @warzan showed us a picture of, that or a Viking trophy house for Justin to display his collection of Berserker lets call them drinking horns.
I think a large bridge with shops and other buildings on it. The buildings could be hanging over the sides of the bridge, some may be a bit ramshackle.
@warzan and @brennon, I almost forgot, when you’re talking about the space marines looking at the new primarus marines and thinking “who the hell do they think they are, we’ve been fighting our whole lives?” There is a great example of this.
A Kurt Russell film called soldier, about a group of soldiers, taken as children and trained to be the elite who are superseded by genetically profiled “made” marines. They’re discarded and given menial tasks while the new generation is lauded as being the best despite having never actually seen combat. If you’ve not seen it you’re in for a treat, well worth checking out and if you have seen it then you’ll know the primarus are going to get the shitty end of the stick 😉
Hey! My Primaris Marine Comparison pic.
Nice.
A bridge with shops and homes down its sides. Some 9f the buildings could be hanging off the side of the bridge and be a bit ramshackle. Maybe a wizards tower with the top looking like it was blown off in a huge explosion. The tower needs to be large and tall with a stone walls around the courtyard with an iron gate.
I have heard from medieval reenactors that fighting with some type of weapons is still dangerous especially if they are blunt or piercing weapons like hammers and spears even if you wear protection.
From the little experience I have with sword fighting is that there is always a risk for injuries.
For 4ground kit:
With so much talk about vikings, would it be possible to do a viking long ship and then maybe a long house based on the long ship.
This is true . My right thumb no longer bends due to having an axe put through it during a battle.
Happy Sunday Lads.
Usually I watch XLBS and because it’s Sunday night and I am psyching up for another week , i think about what I am going to write as I watch the, then say %^% that, I’ll never get to bed. Tonight however I am going to make the effort.
First Justin’s hobby …… 🙁 sad for you mate, you did come across in today’s show as a little tired and less positive than normal. Look after number one and make time for yourself, tell the boss he’s working you too hard.
Then Warren’s hobby. I loved hearing about this, it took me back to a special day I had with my parents when I was in single figures of age in the 70’s. In Brisbane, where I grew up, one of the football grounds in the inner city was converted into a Jousting Arena. We all sat in the stands and watched men in real chain mail helmets et. al. beat the living tar out each other. There was a ground announcer, dressed up properly but using a microphone explaining the rules of the joust, the scoring, organising one half of the stands into supporting one group of Knights and the other into supporting the other. It was &^&& magical. It has lived with me for the rest of my life. So forget about the missus taking a photo of your “plumber’s crack” (or “brickie’s cleavage” whatever trade you prefer), you did something magical for your kids, as well as having a good time yourself.
Onto Ben’s hobby. I find myself agreeing with Ben a lot. (No it’s not just because he loves dwarfs) This was no different what a terrific game. I am now on the look out for it. The following discussion between Warren and Justin did point out that different people get different things from games. Justin obviously likes flow, and that is suited by set rules so you can get on with it. Warren wants more creativity, and I did like what he was proposing, with the complexity of the spell increasing the difficulty and the skill required .(I would like to propose the term Arcanokinesis for moving something magically) I am siding with Warren in this, as long as there is something built into the system that the more complex the spell is the more catastrophic the results are if you fail… That should help with the flow of the game as you you only be pulling out the big guns for important fights instead of over complicating every little thing. Different dice for different skills is a great idea, the first place I encountered this was in Pathfinder Adventures Card game (on the iPad, I am never buying another card game again) it is a great mechanic.
Justin’s 4ground interview was a cracker, I am dying to get my hands on their Fabled Realms game. Just a thought for terrain piece How about a large multi story all weather stable, with haylofts trapdoors etc, and to give it a fantasy twist with some larger stalls for more exotic mounts. Alternatively, I’d kill for some Hobbit holes or halfling sized buildings that others could get into but keep cracking their heads.
My take on Primarius Space Marines, I like them and you covered most of the fluff reasons why they add an extra dimension to the story going ahead. One thing that you didn’t mention is that in the story, ordinary space marines can be “upgraded” by some Adeptus Mechanicus magic….. I think it is a long slow process and that is the reason why all Marines aren’t being done “at once” .
The Primarch of the Raven Guard Corvus Corax (one of the better Primarchs IMO) was indeed taken into the vaults beneath the Imperial Palace, given a sample and shown by the Emperor how manufacture gene seed. I don’t believe that he was given the only copy or all of the equipment, so that imediately after the Horus Heresy when Big Bobby G. was lumbered with being the leader of the High Lords of Terra for a hundred years or so he could have accessed that lab and commissioned Archmagos Crawl to start his research then.
I love the new models, and this with the new rules could get me to actually play a bit more 40K.
Is anyone still reading?? Thanks if you are. Please enjoy the balance of your weekend.
Sheez I’m a long winded b@$t@rd … sorry all
Happy Sunday one and all 😀 .
Congratulations to all the Golden Button winners and the B&P bundle winner. The B&P Zombie Apocalypse is definitely something that deserves the BoW treatment, it would be a fantastic thing to see.
@lloyd must have been super chuffed to see the guys at Army Painter give his foam technique a go, i imagine he was stuck in a jammy dance loop just like little hobbit Lloyd 😀 . My hobby time has been full of building 4Grounds Norse stuff and i will soon be moving onto one of their Arabic Compounds for my flgc. In between that has consisted of making Battlefield in a Box terrain look pretty with multiple types of flock. At some point i will get to make my Viking Longship from DarkOps for myself, but my club must come first.
RPG’s have taken a backseat at club at the moment, but sites like Otherworld and the new Wizkids mini’s are definitely the way to go, the mini’s all have loads of character and really help to immerse you in your questing.
Not sure i will ever be brave enough to move across and have a go at LARP, but i do want to try and get to a reenactactment or two, just not sure about what period i’d like to see first.
I’ve waxed lyrical about how good 4Grounds stuff is in many a thread and Weekender comment, but it is just something that needs and deserves to be said time and again. My flgc has a quickly growing collection from across their range and Fyrburgh has taken a massive leap to the top of our list. Just keep doing what you’re doing guys, it’s always superb and will make any table that much prettier to play on.
The Primaris are definitely on my ‘ to buy ‘ list, i have no doubt that they will become a big presence in my 4 marine armies when 8th drops in 3-4 weeks time. @caesar and his cartoons go from strength to strength, long may he continue to make us laugh here on BoW. Finally, @warzan must do all he can to get @dignity a romphim or two and then have him wear one for a live blog 😀 .
Empire LARP.
Run by Profound Decisions: https://www.profounddecisions.co.uk/
It’s Epic! 🙂
I’m currently attached to the Orc nation working as a Navarr wilderness guide and tracker (see my profile pic).
The main gaming area (the town of Anvil) is 100% In character 24 hours a day. You have the option to sleep in the IC area or a separate Out of Character area.
You can spend the entire event without leaving the IC area and live in character the whole time 🙂
Happy Sunday. I think something that would be interesting for 4ground would be dungeon crawler terrain.
Loving the 4Gound fort … hard to come up with something for them to do, because they do so much good stuff. But, I would love for them to do Mordanburg crypts./dungeon set. Make it so 😀
As I was a huge Dragonlance Fan, I immmidiatly bought the Fifth Age Role-playing box.
Both the setting and the rules where horrible in my mind, but it did have one of the best magic-systems I have ever encountered.
You basically have schools in which you need to be proficient and you can then create your own spells on the fly.
Tables would increase your dufficulty and mana-cost per effect.
These day I use WoD rules exclusivly, for any setting (and I’ve been playing RPG for over 25 years, from old school fantasy to starwars, superheroes, vampire, cyberpunk and what-not). I still house rule that magic system in whenever I need magic in the campaign.
@warzan in regards to reenactment you could be become a medieval printer, and print Beasts of War battle reports….;)
I would love to see 4Ground give a try at some 16th Century Caribbean terrain. Wouldn’t need an entire vauban/bastion style fort, but one corner of it at the edge of the board, some wood buildings, a church. Stuff to support Blood and Plunder
I haven’t done re-enactment but I did for a number of years study historical sword fencing, which the reason why I have several swords (10 to be precise). These were purchased 10-15 years ago and back then the cheapest good quality sword I picked up was a £130 viking sword. The most expensive was a Long Sword (2 handed) at over £300.
So I’m guessing that to fully immerse yourself into a re-enactment period is going to be a very expensive hobby.
Happy Sunday
I have a Paul Binns Tully House design. Cost me about £250 back in about 1997
£150 sorry .I think there about £300 now. Helmet about £70. Viking sea boots were another £100. Add in another few hundred for bits and bobs
I’d love to see 4 ground make some deadzone compatible 3 inch by 3 inch cube compatible terrain!
I think I’m around £500 for my main larp gear (not including weapons – another £200). This has been acquired over 5 years of play so it’s not too bad 🙂
It would be great to see some siege engines from 4Ground. It should be possible to do battering rams, siege towers, catapults, ballistas, and even trebuchets in MDF. It would also be nice to see stone walls that are a bit bigger and could protect a city. Or something similar to Hadrian’s Wall?
That fort looks amazing, I might have to invest in one.
4ground, I would love to see a sci-fi train/monorail station
I would also consider getting some of the new SM for a kill team
God Emperor help anyone listening to this on podcast lol the horn!
Love the 4ground fort. They should make tents and siege engines so you can have a siege. Great stuff.
Are there going to be special rules for this 4ground Fort when you are playing the fabled realms game. For scaling the walls and opening gates?
Well if marines are getting resized I imagine others will follow. Chaos will need to match and orks will surely need to be increased in size?
It would be cool to see some ruined modules for this fort that could be mixed in to create a fort that has seen a bit of action.
Justin and Warzan photo caption
Inside Warzans mind; Damm I’m looking hot, just look at how cool I’am. Should’ve gone for the 4th of July one, would have been sizzling hot….
Justin’s mind; For crying out loud, how the hell did I let him talk me into wearing these….I need more beer….oh crap I hope no one takes any pics of us wearing these….why oh why do I trust him, when he says, don’t worry you’ll look great…..I look like a complete mellon…..
Happy Sunday
The 4ground fort looks awesome, what I would like to see would be like a fortified way station where you have like a stone inn and stable connected togeter by fortified walls either like in the fort they just showed off or stone like the buildings with a watch tower and gate between the 2 buildings to guard the entrancs and allow wagons into the courtyard. The entrances to the 2 buildings would be from the courtyard and the buildings outer walls would be arrow slits and the corners of the roofs on the inn and stables would have areas for archers.
What would be a nice building/style for 4ground I think is something like the old mansions in louisiana. The big white houses in the swamps. You can useit for blood & plunder wild west exodus and some civil war stuff. Also maybe for the bit more punk games. Think it would be very cool with some large old trees and stuff. Also the cool rules you can add into games when you are playing in a swap. You need to roll to check if you are not getting attacked by a gator or snake.
Or maybe you can use the it for a raid on a plantation. You sail up a small river with your small sloop and a band of pirates under the cover of darkness. You need to try to get as close as possible without alerting the guards.
i quite like the new marines (i also sold off my black templar at the right time it seems!!)
would love to see some 4ground ruined Fyrburgh, maybe some destroyed walls addons or something to go with the ruined buildings they have? (must be on the cards already!)
With all the talk about marines, I would like to see a Starship Troopers base.
Just have a Tyranid horde swarm the space Marines.
I’d love to see 4Ground do a large mill, smithy/armoury, or industrial type features for Fabled Realms!
They already have a smithy for the fabled realms http://www.4ground.co.uk/horgars-blacksmith?search=smith
Would love to see 4 ground make some modular stone walls for either dungeon crawling or building quick stone emplacements.
I always loved the idea of using fortresses in my massed fantasy games but I could never find balanced rules for them. Sounds great that they will be included.
I’d love to see some 28mm North Africa buildings please?
On the modern jousting deaths you’d think they could wear the modern ballistic glasses underneath of the visor. If it will stop shrapnel it should stop splinters.
I’m looking forward to a new Beast of War web-comics…
Justin and RompHim.
Happy sunday gents!! Another smashing xlbs!
I’m a reenactor, i used to do napoleonic stuff with the 95th rifles and ive done bits from a US ww2 perspective too. Ill have to have a nose at my pics and get them up for you. Its always great fun to fully emerse in the period over a weekend. Yes most stay in the tents, much better with the canvasd tents compared to modern ones, plus having to cook all your meals on an open fire is much better.
Ive been looking forward to the new version of 40k for so long now. I love the new marines but i am a little dissapointed that my wolves will likely be replaced eventually. I would love for there to be some friction written into the fluff about then older marines not beig happy. My wolves would definitely not be pleased about a bunch of yound upstarts appearig after thousands of years of war!!
Fabled realms is looking better and better. I love all the 4ground stuff, having the mall and a few bits from mordenburg myself. I cant fault their products and i cant wait for the game to go to kickstarter so i can get involved. Id love to see a broken/destroyed dwarfen city, its not oftern we see that sort of thing. Id also love to see some different styles of buildings, i love all the stuff youve got now but having a different style from a different area of the world would really add to the variety.
Dane
Good show guys. I like the fort. For me it needs a coloured roof as it’s too much Brown. Red slates would be nice. Also for me the Fabled realms houses look odd inside it’s needs it’s own range of cabins inside to keep the aesthetic.
I guess that’s my suggestion cabins and a store building, a barracks perhaps. Or perhaps the fort was assembled around some part ruined dwarf building of interest. That could make for something really interesting
happy sunday.. i love the reenactment stuff, i made some films using awesome WWII reeanactors, and these guys are very sensitive about the accuracy of their gear. it was a learning and eye opening experience for me.
4ground for the win again. That fort looks great. With the pieces I have from them so far, I think the tavern is still my favorite. I think I would like to see them do a smaller, roadside version of the tavern. A small bar, single story, with a few rentable rooms. Maybe an attached overhang stable and possibly a watchtower on the roof. Every adventure needs a roadside tavern.
Caption competition…. that model is thinking “It’s a shame i’ll never look as cool as Justin in his romper” 😉
Having seen that fort i’d live to see them take it a step further and do a Motte and Bailey kit
I’d love to see a half built castle with medieval scaffolding around it as a 4Ground terrain piece. I think it could make a terrain piece with many oppertunities for exciting chases on a dark age/medieval building site. Would suit a skirmish size game very well. Something like the chases in the Assassin Creeds movie (which was just about the only good thing with that movie).
Once again, 4ground comes out with another great idea. This fort can be used for many games. I will definitely use it for Malifaux, Frostgrave and Askeo Obskura.
give it away
give it away
give it away now
couldnt resist. Fort looks amazing and i’m loving the stuff that foreground are coming out with, work on so many levels with different systems. top work
What I would love to see from 4ground would be a 2’×2′ or larger skyscraper, for modern, and SciFi.
Infinity, Judge Dreed, or just a game of free the hostages
The main issue with pre-assembled minis for me is painting them, as often you just can’t get your brush to some of the out of way places. So it can be very hard to get the level of detail I want.
For 4Ground: my terrain mind has recently been ticking for the Drowned Earth. I went all-in on the KS and I’m looking to build a table for it. I got a crazy idea of a table that would be centered on a huge piece of crashed airplane fuselage, which would be used as shelter now and jungle would be taking over. Might be mad, but so are 4Ground, my request is for a 2′ chuck of a 747 fuselage in 35mm scale 😀
And if @dignity show up at the UK games Expo, wearing his birthday suit – he better hope the is no berserkers around looking for revenge 😉
good one – I’d forgotten about the clippers! 😀
4ground always makes great products. I would like to see them do different kinds of bridges. We all have waterways for our tabletop games, but bridges are lacking.
That fort looks really cool. It’d be nice to see 4ground come out with a spaceship interior or some sort of terrain themed for shadow war armageddon.
should the horn not have a cap or cork to keep the beer in? – what if you want to strap a full beer-horn to your Viking belt to drink later?
I feel the prime marines is Games Workshop’s most sneaky sales tactic to date.
“you’ll still be able to use your regular marines” WINK WINK!!
It’s the boiling frog syndrome.
with the metal/ plastic debate, I feel like metal breaks way to easaly for me
must get you some pictures of the rigging diagrams from my Osberg ships!
You asked, so I reply – What next terrain would I love to see? A barrow or some other wilderness tomb, druidic temple, or other exterior naturally enclosed site to explore. I certainly can see a fight taking place outside a barrow that has two or three rooms where an ancient treasure is sought for Fabled Realms.
On another point, I think Justin should definitely try to get on Vikings. If we all knew JUSTIN was on it, it would no doubt double their ratings. I’ll be sad when he goes all hollywood, and leaves beasts of war, but I know I will get my Justin time at the movies. Best of luck next time Warren with the beard. 🙂
@warzan Right! I have a first class BoW merchandising idea.
The BoW RhompHim.
Instead of dice bags, Annie could sew the BoW logos into these.
They would sell like hot cakes.
You could have Hobby God RhompHims, for the winners of the Hobby Night.
You could have BoW Staff Rhomphims for Salute and all the shows.
You could have Bow Fanzie RhompHims for us plebs.
And Warren could wear his own personal Rhomphim the next time he goes on a viking longship to spare the world the hideous sight of his ass crack and sending poor traumatised kids screaming for their parents.
For 4 Ground.
Lets start with 28mm:
We need some factory complexes both built and damaged.
A windmill for Market Garden battles.
A Roman Fort along Hardian’s wall would also be a welcome addition.
15mm:
The Arnhem bridge
Again some factory complexes both built and damaged.
Fabled Realms:
City of Mordanburg Walls
Fantasy Windmill
@warzan and now for your SASSY!!! 4 GROUND Suggestion
Who doesn’t want an OUTHOUSE!!!!!
Cmon you know you love it, who doesn’t need a crapper on their gaming table!
You absolutely need a place to put that pesky die that rolls a 1 when all you needed was a 2 or higher!!!!!!
Love to see some building for the new mophidious game Fallout. Always love the 50’s look of the fallout game.
@warzan My wife got me a pitch lined leather jack for drinking my real ale from and the beer tastes so much better. Give the drinking horn it’s chance. I bet it’ll enhance the flavour in rich dark beers (like Guinness) immensely.compared to glass.
Metal minis get a lot of criticism that I think is unfair.Plastic makes delicate complex models a reality but sometimes one piece characterful models in metal do the job just as well.
As regards terrain I’d like to expand on golonkas idea and talk about height changes. Imagine a fortress where single height walls but up against double height walls and towers of an inner keep. Perhaps they could create modular sections to go under existing walls and rowers to add height.
Also buildings and walls designed to run up and over hills. This could be tricky as hills are often created with huge variations in height and slope but I bet the guys at 4ground have the engineering skills and experience to give it a shot.
Regarding painting services why not try a scheme like miniwargaming where aspiring commission painters (like myself) can exchange services for advertising. Obviously it would be easy to justify for models and armies for the BoW business. For your personal projects just reach out to us as friends. I’d be happy to help as would many others I’m sure.
Really like the new looking fort would you consider as doing interchangeable damaged / burnt out pieces to replace the standard pieces as the building is being attacked and scatter pieces steps , ladders stocks ???
Laser-cut MDF – Dungeon Tiles!
Look at this Laser-Cut Heroquest Board…
http://forum.yeoldeinn.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2950
my poor twenty-year old Heroquest board is beat-up and mouldy – its like a picnic cloth 🙁
With regards to terrain how about a post apocalyptic stronghold. Kind of a mix between the old Gorkamorka Base and something from Mad Max 2.
The 4ground stuff is always amazing to see
will there be a counter arced served corner section for the 4ground fort ( AKA a wall that serves inwards not outwards)?
What a superb episode once again.
I really dig the 4Ground kit.
That would fit really wel onto a “The Drowned Earth” table.
Speaking of The Drowned Earth, I think it would be verry cool if the men frfom 4Ground would produce some Jungle buildings.
Or even some huts on poles, so to create an Indonesian fishing village for example.
That kind of terrain could also be used for a Bolt Action table (war in the Pacific).
Or any game with a jungle background, maybe even on a Catachan table for WH40K.
Just my two cents.
Looking forward to thursdays Hobby Night.
Cheers
Happy Sunday from NorCal. Great show as always. I got in on the Scale 75 busts Kickstarter. I love their paint and looking forward to the September delivery. The 4Ground fort looks amazing, they are always pushing laser cut MDF to the next level. The fort makes me think of the world of Conan. The rounded corners and the roof slopes just fit the style of architecture.
Goood shows boys.
realy lovely ford, very nice to win one, still missing a nice Dutch Windmill in the 4ground range
I would love to see some 4ground sci-fi or dungeon corridor type tiles for the likes of Dungeon saga and Star saga.
On the subject of The Romphim I think its a wonderful idea for warzan as it would stop the rest of the world being subjected to the crack of his ass ever again. “I had daymares about that photo..” but where would he hang his horn? … wait don’t tell me I feel nightmares coming on.
Will double my backstage subs if Justin has to wear a romphim every weekender from now on.
4Ground suggestion – I’d like to see them turn their hands to terrain suitable to use as the homelands of more evil factions. The kinds of places where orcs, dark elves, evil humans, necromancers and their ghoulish followers and the like might live.
Often on fantasy tabletops, the bad guys are assumed to be the raiders, the invaders in the lands of more civilised peoples.
Fully understand if 4 ground can’t fulfil my earlier wish list. So with all this Piratey goodness going on these days maybe some buildings of the type you would see in Pirate stronghold of Tortuga.
A Japanese Castle.
I’ve asked before a Viking Longship please 🙂
Some simple roads or cobbled streets would be a useful addition to my terrain box
you should get a baby bottle brush for getting the inner tip of your horn clean @warzan the tip is always the hardest to get sparkling clean?
A longship would be good – something like a cog that could have a lower and upper deck might be good too.
My favourite 40K spelling error was in the Rogue Trader book where they introduced the MARKO Cannon. 🙂
Ref 4Ground
I think something useful terrain like bridges would be good, maybe stone and wooden. On a larger scale have they done something like a fantasy style grand cathedral as a massive centre piece.
I would imagine that they could do some great stuff linking into Blood & Plunder, everything you need for a harbour scene, or maybe some plantation buildings (Thinking of the Black Flag game).
Honestly I think 4Ground should make food trucks. Make one that is for Tacos. Tacos rule.
Yeah they rule heh heh! …….Bunghole!
Dammit Beavis…..don’t make me smack you upside the head!
As for the reaction of normal Space Marines when confronted by the Primaris Marines, @warzan, you need to watch a Kurt Russel movie called Soldier. While the new and improved version might be stronger and faster and fitter, they don’t have the decades of down and dirty experience that the old version has. Soldier is the perfect example of this.
On the topic of new 4Ground buildings, I would love to add a biker bar / dive to my table I’m (slowly) building for a Zombie apocalypse / any modern game set in a run down inner city area.
Blood and Plunder has got me hooked. I went out and ordered the rule book, unaligned set and sloop. Not sure how I’m gunna explain that to the missus when it arrives, but I’ll deal with that at the time.
As for historical re-enactments, way to hot here (Darwin Australia) for any of that sort of thing, but I too would love to join a Viking re-enactment group. There are numerous of these types of groups in cities down south and several online shops in Australia that cater to them
http://medievalshoppe.com.au/
https://www.medieval-fightclub.com.au/
I have bought a few bits and am in the process of making my own Viking shield. Once you have the shield boss its not really that hard
I’d like to see 4Ground to a fishing/docks set
I’m with Justin! No! Just No! Foreground wise…..do they make shipwrecks? Or maybe the Atlantic wall?
Great show guys! 4 GROUND can you please make a GLADIATOR Arena. Gamers can play the best narrative based games. Culminating with a battle of two champions or two elite forces.
I’m already planning my game!!! Hahahahaa. Love your product. My gaming table looks so sick thanks to you guys. Looking forward to whatever you guys choose to make. Thanks from across the pond.
Happy sunday!
For 4Ground, the only idea i have at the moment: scaffoldings! Could add something storytelling wise…
KS: facepalm!
I would like to see a 4ground Light House or a docks set, something from the coast or to make a city into a port.
Oh boy the PRimaris marines, ya I am ok with the models but the whole story is just crap, its shoehorned together and once again we get the walking deus ex machina mr Cawl from gathering storm. I am happy they are moving the story forward its what I want I just think they haven’t been doing a great job with the story. I know they have good writers just look at the Imperial Armour books or the HH books. And as to the Space Marine model kits, they are not 15 years old, they just got a new kit a few years ago when the Grav weapons came out, not to mention the new Blood angel kit, Deathwatch kit and the Mk3 and Mk4 marines. They just re-did all the basic units in the past 4 or so years, the assault, devastator and tactical are all fairly new. They are going to be kitted like the Legions were in the HEresy, so you will have a unit of all bolters, then a unit of all Plasma guns or all heavy bolters, etc.
What kind of plastic glue are you guys using, I have been using Tamiya thin green cap cement and when used properly, ie putting a little glue on both parts you glueing, it works great. I can, and have, thrown models across the room or dropped them 4 or 5 feet onto hard wood and they stay stuck just fine. Now metal I find unless i take the time to pin which is a huge pain in its own right, even a little drop and something comes off.
Thanks guys, have great week!
For the 4ground team,
Been following your new game with interest. Would love to see the camp kit for the individual models/factions
Ok you cheeky buggers. Lick my “molten balls!”.
Quick question. Shouldn’t every army need a new super steroid soldier now? Food for thought.
that fort is super dope I’d love to see more post-apocalyptic fortifier buildings or like barricade walls of junk or fences
I’d love 4Ground to consider doing ancient Roman/Carthaginian/Greek warships in 28mm
I second that! – Roman warships for the Fall of Britain / Exploration of Caledonia / Crimean Black Sea wars / even the Red Sea 🙂
4Ground buildings – having had some time to think about it I’d be keen to see more general purpose fantasy/medieval buildings. Things like farmhouses, barns, grain stores and the like. Nothing overly dramatic but things that would help to make a medieval town or fantasy tabletop appear more realistic.
Has anyone seen anything with regard to a release date for those river houses the guys were showing off at Salute? From memory they were slotted in for a May release But I haven’t seen anything on the updated site. And yeah, I’m starting to get a bit twitchy like a kid before their birthday – those sets looked awesome 🙂
A behind the scenes video of the workings at 4ground would be very interesting. I’d like to see more sci fie terrain with a darker look than what they have produced so far, maybe more industrial.
Well. Considering I’m watching this on Monday, happy Monday lol
great show, 4 ground stuff looks great.
For 4ground I was thinking about abandoned buildings in a tight fanatisy street setting with narrow lanes just like in vermintide or frostgrave. Each roof and upper floor would be in such a state of ruin or disrepair that it would grant access to the players hand without having to remove any of the building stories. Also holes could be nocked into the side walls granting access to each building via walkways and ladders. The key to this idea is that once a squalid urban area is set up there would be no need to remove any part of the scenery, a basic ‘what you see is what you get’ in scenery.
Awesome Show!!!!
Kattegat in my West-Flemish dialect literally means cat’s ass.
I feel 4 Ground should make a tabletop version of cat’s asses and sell it as alien jungle terrain. 😉
Best. Photo. Ever!!
As for 4ground how about medivel wagons on western wagon a water fountion
So someone lost a bet with Andrea and he does not want to be the only fool this side of the Atlantic.
@ Chad, how about c small conversion to make the fort into a Japanese stronghold.
I’m sure the Bag Dice lady could put the BoW logo on your Romphims. You could have them as the official uniform, look forward to seeing you all wearing them. Was also impressed with the fluorescent orange Viking life jacket.
Would like to see a 4Ground Normandy Atlantic Wall.
Great show keep up the good work.
I need some nicely done ork wasteland type buildings for our gorkamorka games coming up soon-ish. Regular wasteland type stuff would probably work too so I guess post-apoc style of buildings would be a good call, for us at least.
I don’t know where to start but it seems that pop culture has taken a giant side step. First I hear a YEEEP from the boys on the weekender and think that is as low as it can go. Then someone took James May seriously about his everyday boiler suit idea from Man Lab and then kickstarted it. I fear for our children and the future. Justin better be in one of those get ups for a future filming!
[Insert Sass Here].
Make spaceship terrain dammit 4Ground!
I would love to see Fallout terrain from 4Ground in the future
….or the mobile version – fallout shelter – you could make an awesome bunker that goes beneath ground in – it’s like tiny tower, but goes down the way. Could do lifts and rooms that join end on that create power, water and food, lab manufacturing and training. The main door would go right at the top and the scenery could be open on one side and effectively stacked.
With all the upcoming piracy and raiding it’s fairly ease to tell where 4Ground should go next.
Long ships, tall ships, boats and brigs! If it can float on water it should be made. 🙂
If you have a fort, surely some siege equipment should be on the cards? I would think that a battering ram, siege tower and scaling ladders are all possible in laser cut MDF. Perhaps a trebuchet.
And some market stalls, wagons, town gallows etc to furnish the inside of the fort.
ivlove that set, zombie vs saga anything would be amazing. Do they make other castle stuff. I gotta get to there web site. Great show as always. Thanks guys.
4Ground needs to make a hobbit or dwarf settlement. Even a human farmstead for raiding would be nice!
I would love to see a miller’s house from 4Ground complete with water wheel for the grinding stone. Would be a neat piece to have alongside a river.
Photo Caption: Making hipster D-Bags easier to spot since 2017!
Top up my horn sounds dirty…
Is it sad that I have been away from 40k for 4 years so have sold all my armies and now have an interest in 8th Ed?
PS: Really want the 4 Ground fort!
Hey Warren, why not make your own viking shield? There is a YouTuber that shows how to make a shield. I think his name was Skallagrim.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02IvxvGh-A8
Ha the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon, that brings back memories. Going to have to hunt it down now :).
As to the 4ground guys, I’m torn between so many gaming systems at the moment I couldn’t think of any one direction I’d like to see them develop further. Though I would like to see more work done in the ruins of daldorr. That fort looks damn good!
Regarding future 4ground terrain,
I’d love to see some terrain for Rogue Trooper Nu-earth, with either Nort or Souther insignia!
Oh how I miss the chem clouds across the orange sea. The sunset over Fort Dix-I
I have an idea for 4ground, spoke to the guys about it at the Dropfleet Bootcamp. I still think a post apocalypse range in the style of Fallout would be fantastic. I mean Fallout miniatures game is about to take off and you have already established games such as This is Not a Test, Scrappers among others.
Love to see a converged damaged / non-damaged range, where the building can go from non damaged to damaged during the course of the game.
I’ve got a few kits of damaged , but I’d love to actually start a scenario and get the terrain to deform as the game / campaign went along.
Love to see some terrain for guildball , goals, scoreboards and stands , maybe for bloodbowl too – or fantasy football games in general .
For the Americana range to go with walking dead, I’d love to see a drive in cinema
Thanks for another crazy XLBS guys. You mentioned mixing super glue with baking soda, have you tried GORILLA GLUE “For the toughest jobs on planet Earth”? Bloody strong and also expands at least twice its size.
@warzan There were a couple of stands at Salute where they had trays of D&D and Pathfinder pre-paints that were priced purely on the mini size and just as Ben was saying, I am sure they will be at the UKGE too. It isn’t practical to try and build an army that way because there isn’t enough variety per race / class, but if you need 8 – 12 unique minis they are perfect.
I love the Weekender. You guys are always having so much fun.
I think some Egyptian pharaonic terrain would be an interesting addition the 4Ground products.
4ground fort awesome. To finish it off it could do with some external defenses to create obstacles to get to it. Like spiked logs etc.
The thing that will keep the ‘Standard’ Space Marine in service for some time is the fact that GW have stated that the Primarius will have Different Options then their Standard counter parts. Their options could just be plain better then Standard but they will cost more points because of it. So it all depends on how elite of an force you want on the table. Those Jump Prime Marines look kick ass.
As for what new type of Terrain for those wood loving fellows to make…Maybe just some simple Scifi barricades for 28mm. They have a bunch of great buildings but how about something more of the open battlefield.
I want the 4Ground guys to make Kattegut, officially, as an affordable kit for poor blokes like me.
Playing on the 4Ground tables at The Walking Dead bootcamp was a gaming highlight for me. The game was great and the tables really set it off. Now I’m at home I have the cool plastic wrecked cars, some poundland toy vehicles and the log cabin that I was given on the bootcamp. I think a bigger cabin would be cool. Like a hunters retreat, with multiple rooms. One of those places where rich folks go to rough it in luxury. 🙂
I also got into Test of Honour recently so the Japanese range that launched recently looks great. The beautiful shrines and larger buildings are great, but I’d be interested in what the poorest people lived in. Be nice to have my war band protect the outskirts rather than just the landmarks.
I’m going to Warhammer Fest for the first time this Sunday and am keen to see if I can dip my toe into the GW world with Shadow War or the new Skirmish AoS game. I guess as the popularity grows 4Ground should see what inspires them from the 40K latest terrain direction and the ruined realms of AoS.
Maybe a shipwreck would look good in Lloyds pirate cove. Maybe a ship being refitted in a dry dock for its next journey.
Love the fort, saw it in the flesh so to speak at Salute, it looks awesome and would look good with my Stoic Arms :). Talking about new buildings I’ve recently gotten into Bolt Action, and looking at some of the upcoming books how about the Reich Chancellery building. Or the Hartenstein Hotel in Arnhem, then of course you’ve got the bridge itself. Moving up to date some more modern buildings for use with Spectre would be cool, an office block some such like.
I’d like to see more Gothic City stuff from 4ground. Maybe channel the 90’s Batman movies a bit and work some statues into the architecture.
Cool show as always!
For the 4grounds guys I would recommend on looking some really regional, niche buildings, or some landmark – inspired monuments. Those always give character to any battle. But I have to say, I am a fan of building my own terrain 🙂
@warzan Surely Lloyd and John could make you a foam and flock beard as part of the hobby night live? Just think of the interesting colours they could spray it…
@warzan, Also on the subject of viking festivals, I live in York (sorry Yorvik) and every Feb they have the Viking Festival which to be honest can be a bit hit and miss in terms of quality (so when you mentioned lacklustre re-enactors I can sympathise). However it did give rise to the unique experience for my missus to look out of our then kitchen window and find a “viking” caught short taking a p*ss in some bushes below our flat!
Did think though that with his vast craft experience @dignity could craft you a shield… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02IvxvGh-A8 should help..
Come on 4ground – A giant statue of the old god in mdf! Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!
That’s a crazy fort, but 4Ground stuff always is; I’d like them to try some things from a culture under represented on the tabletop – for example ancient south east asian like Angkor Wat
The Fyrburgh Fort would be great for Blood and Plunder shore fortifications, or American colonial forts. There are lots of forts that are meant to be stone, but have a fort made out of wood opens up a lot of different battlefield types.
@warzan I had intermittent problems with getting glue to bond on Infinity models.
Once I twigged to the idea that the metal likely had release agent on those those skinny legs and tiny arms, I started washing the models just like I wash resin parts.
Since I’ve started washing my Infinity models, I haven’t had that gluing problem. 😀
I must say I prefer the look of the older Space Marines to the new Primaris Marines. I do like the new Bolt Rifile though. The first thing that came up to me when I saw a picture of them was: Is this enhanced Mk. IV armour? Like the mark 8 is an up-armoured version of the standard mark 7.
Most of my Space Wolves look pretty varied and dynamic. I did built a Space Wolf Grey Hunter squad from a Mark IV Space Marine kit, while using some bits I still have from other Space Wolf kits to Space Wolfify them. All of them look pretty varied and not a single one looks the same. I know Space Wolfs are pretty varied and supposed to be anyway, but then I can look at my guardsman. Lots of them have the exact same equipment, but none of them have the same pose and thus look more alive as a squad. I also have some Dark Angels from Dark Vengeance and they have models that look exactly the same. I hate that. More dynamic poses as standard is nice, but as long as every model can look different and not that you have 2 tactical squads that look exactly the same, model wise, it’s fine. Building varied and dynamic models and thus putting life in the miniature is an important part of the hobby for me.
@warzan – see if this changes Justin’s mind. lol

Justin could be the new Bond!
Good luck with the painting services and collecting Warren, I run a painting service as my day job, and the people coming are using the service for all manner of reasons. There definitely seems to be a certain stigma applied in some circles to getting work commissioned, but the way to look at it is like getting any other work done that you don’t or can’t do yourself. I know nothing about mechanics, so when my car breaks it goes to the car doctor rather than me breaking out the tools. Simple.
I’d really like to see a castle and walls with an evil spiky theme, but without skulls. I think mdf would be a good material for this sort of thing, to work with my dark elves and Slaanesh armies.
Great stuff from 4ground as usual
Totally a red chambray for Justin! He can run around pretending he’s one of his clipped berserkers
Woohoo! Cracking way to end a holiday, thank you!
@warzan check out Scion for your magic casting desires. It has a stunt system, where you gain bonuses to your rolls by how creatively you describe your action prior to rolling. While you still have your basic abilities you’re going from, how interestingly you use them makes all the difference. I used to play in a group of theater people all skilled at improv, and you can imagine how far you can take a water control spell when combined with bottomless beer mug in combat.
Love 4Ground stuff. Not in my budget right now, but really cool stuff.
I would love 4 Ground to create a Napoleonic Star Fort in 15mm.
About Vikings I purchased a rpg here in Spain last year that is a compendium of knowledge of how they live, where, with great artwork and renactment groups fotos. Wallhalla the rpg game for middle age.
4ground has an awesome scenery, I just have 4 pieces for a small far west town and is lovely, maybe they can make some roman buildings, arenas colloseums, roman forts, siege weapons (ballistas and onagros) circus for a 28mm chariot race game…
fabled realms is also so useful for fantasy and even medieval touch games…
Lastly about new 40k I’m thinking on ultramarines since 3-4 years back and now they would be new! Donot know if I jump I will ever play some games I’m low on spare time for hobby.
Btw giant packed episode mates! Well done.
Great show!
Just in case it’s not too late to be in with a chance of winning…
I think I might be getting some of the 4Ground norse buildings and that there fort to make my own Viking town, that is a fantastic kit. All it needs is a Norse smithy and a stable.
I would linke to see some modern suburban houses, possibly with some plastic sheets for windows. Just imagine seeing yourself seeing some zombies through your glace sliding doors into the garden and sprinting your way to your neighbours shed to pick up his chainsaw. Alternatively one could play out a hostage rescue or go capture a crime lord or informant right out of his villa.
