Over the weekend, we got a look at some new reveals for Warhammer: The Old World and specifically the Bretonnians. They are one of the two big armies that got properly nuked during the switch to Warhammer Age Of Sigmar, so it's good to see them returning with a vengeance. The weekend's Games Workshop preview gave us a look at what will launch for the Kingdom Of Bretonnia.

The first of the miniatures that was shown off was the new Royal Pegasus plastic kit which comes with some nice options for making different character miniatures. The Royal Pegasus mount comes with characters like the Duke that you see here wielding an impressive lance.

As well as the Duke, you can also choose from a variety of bitz to make a Baron instead. Here you can see one of the other weapon options from the kit where you can tinker around with a sword if the lance doesn't quite work for you.

I quite like the look of the new miniature and I think they've managed to match the classic look of the Bretonnians from Warhammer Fantasy Battles whilst also embracing some design ideas that are more familiar with the look and feel of miniatures we got in 8th Edition.

Another of the options for the Royal Pegasus kit is the Battle Standard Bearer.

Plenty of details for you to get stuck into and that Royal Pegasus does look great. There is also plenty of space across the miniature to work on your heraldry and show off the colours of your province. I can see some folks delving back into the history books to see if they can find some obscured baronies to bring to life.

Sticking with characters, we also got a look at this new miniature for the Handmaiden Of The Lady. She is going to be one of your powerful casters that can bestow blessings on your knights as they get ready to charge into battle.

All of these miniatures then match up nicely with the rest of the Bretonnian characters that we've seen revealed over the last year or so. We've got some impressive knightly characters and another blessed lady to lead the way, this time from the back of her unicorn.

All of the character miniatures for the Bretonnians are going to be a mix of new plastics, Forge World resin and perhaps a few classic metal miniatures might make it back into the mix. They did mention that returning metal heroes and specialist units will be joining this resurgence of The Old World.

New Knights Of The Realm

As well as the new characters, we also had a new plastic regiment for those needing even more knights in their collection. It only took the death of The World That Was for us to get some Knights Of The Realm On Foot.

These miniatures represent those Knights who might have lost their horses earlier in the campaign or those who just prefer getting up close and personal in the mud. You can arm these knights with the double-handed axe/polearm style weapons that you see there or you can use swords and shields.

I think I prefer the sword and shield options as they just match more with the look and feel of knights to me. I do quite like set but I'm not sure about the helmets. I think the tops of them look suitably ostentatious and kooky but the actual shape of the helmets feels a little odd. I don't know if it's just how they're painted but they don't feel angular enough to be and are almost bucket-like. I'm sure time will tell as to whether or not they work.

These miniatures will be coming out during the launch of Warhammer: The Old World next year alongside a host of their newer and older siblings. Talking of older miniatures, Games Workshop also showed off some of the miniatures that are returning to the tabletop for the Bretonnians.

Classic Returning Miniatures

It would make sense to start with the cream of the crop amongst the people of Bretonnia. The Knights Of The Realm will return and I would guess by the way they have been set up, so does the lance formation in-game.

While not quite as dynamic as some of the new mounted miniatures that we've seen for the Kingdom Of Bretonnia, this will give you your elite cavalry option. Get those lances couched and slam into enemy regiments, sending poor Orcs and Goblins scattering!

As well as the Knights Of The Realm, we also have the dregs of society that have been raised to fight in the name of their local barons. You will be able to get the Men-At-Arms again...

...and the Peasant Bowmen. I really like these classic miniatures and whilst they are showing their age, they scream The Old World to me.

I don't know if this points to something interesting about the way regiments work in The Old World but you'll note that the frontages here are six rather than (as far as I remember) five. In saying that the frontage of the Knights Of The Realm On Foot is still five so, maybe it's nothing!

It does feel like the armies might be a little bit smaller in The Old World which would be welcome. Could we see regiments going back to being around ten or so miniatures to match the feel of some of the older editions of Warhammer Fantasy Battles?

Whilst not as nice as the new Royal Pegasus, we also got a look at the returning Pegasus Knights who are certainly showing their age but look pretty awesome all the same. I remember how rock star most of the horses in Warhammer looked. Looking at you Elven horses!

Last but not least, we also got the Trebuchet which is going to be coming back but will be available in Forge World resin rather than metal. This should make the kit a lot easier to work with although I would also imagine the price tag might be a little eye-watering.

And that was that! We got a look at what should be coming out for the Kingdom Of Bretonnia when The Old World launches properly during the early portion of 2024. As well as the previews that you see here, we have been told that there will be a new website launching for Warhammer: The Old World today. It will be interesting to see what details that might reveal.

Are you tempted to dive back into The Old World or will this perhaps be your first quest into The World That Was?
