DUST Returns At GAMA 2016 With Revamped Game
March 8, 2016 by brennon
DUST is returning alongside their partners at Ninja Division to bring a new version of the game to the tabletop and will be introducing it at GAMA 2016 which runs from March 14th to March 18th 2016...
The game is going to be coming back under a new name, Paolo Parente's DUST 1947 and will return with new books, new products and new accessories. A lot of this will be shown off this year at the game trade convention.
"This new brand allows Dust Studio to start fresh after a couple rocky years through which the community of gamers and retailers have supported us faithfully, knowing we are thriving to produce the best miniatures along with the most flexible play strategy game available to suit a variety of ages and experiences."
As well as that they are also have plans to explore the next book, Operation Kondor, which you can see the miniatures for in the pictures below. This will - as you might imagine - take things out into the desert with new units for both sides.
I really like this upcoming image showing some of the German forces with some deadly looking claws. I really like all of the genetically engineered troopers that we see for the German troops in this game and I almost prefer that aspect of Weird World War rather than the big walkers and tanks.
I think this could be a good thing for DUST going forward and I really hope that they can bring some awesome models and game expansions to the tabletop now the storm has (almost) abated. Hopefully things will be able to progress forward now with a new brand.
Will you be keeping an eye out for their new products?
"The game is going to be coming back under a new name, Paolo Parente's DUST 1947..."

Given the history of this game, and the fact it’s been through several distributors I’ll be staying away from this, I’d rather wait for Warlords 1947 game. Also the fact that he’s stuck his name in the title makes me uneasy.
Yeah I feel uneasy about this as well, the title of the rule book is a bit dubious. After seeing this I see they have completely fallen out with battlefront. Its a shame this game has alot of following. All we can do is wait and and yes I’m waiting for Warlord 1947.
Warlord game is a very different kind of Weird war II…more supernatural than DUST and it’s superscience.
I am glad for DUST to be moving forward…great game great minis great universe. I am also looking forward to Konflict…more weird war is always good 🙂
Does anyone know what happened to that Operation Babylon kickstarter? Did those backers get their stuff in the end then?
Nope. I’m still waiting on nearly every model. About $450 worth of units, from Dust Studio’s side of the project… all of which is for sale at Dust Studios, and prominently featured in the photos above and on the DS facebook page. Last I heard, in December of 2015, I could expect it “in Spring”. Since then crickets.
I should point out Battlefront has gotten me most of their portion of the order… the game rules, unit cards, dice etc. It’s useless now, but at least I have that part in hand.
still waiting for my stuff
I received my entire order.
No thumbs up for you. We only want bad news.
not yet…
i was a backer , a few month ago they said that we will receive all the stuff that we had paid for …… but still waiting for a lot of stuff i don’t even had the dice so i think ill go with the new Warlord stuff and proxi some mini with all my dust stuff , cause for me Dust is Banned for the rest of my life …+ 1 year 😉
Im suprised anyone is willing to partner up with dust I’d want an ironclad contract with everything spelled out in excruitating detail after the past few years shenanigans
you mean like any intelligent company would do? Battlefront dropped the ball on so many aspects of this kickstarter…the “verbal” contract with the designer of the game was just one of them.
Glad to see DUST moving away from battlefront.
The History of this Game and that they have burnt through several distributors should say enough. As an ex Dust-Elite Member with a huge Dust Collection i will for sure stay away from it.
That they changd the Name and that Paolo needed to include his name into the Title is at least.. special for my taste.
And after the two Praise increases last Year i have to say that the Quality of the models are not up to par with the price.
praise=price
I love the hyperbole and misinformation from people in the comments. Two distributors in nearly 6 years, and one of them they manufacture X-Wing models for because it was an amicable split. There have been updates on when the Kickstarter will be fulfilled, so no issue for me, I’ll be staying on board.
Love it when people accuse other of misinforming when they said something that won’t fit in their world view.
If you were involved in Dust from the very beginng like me you would know the very First Dust Tactics Product the First Edition Big Box with the AEG Logo on it. The FFG sticker was just placed over it. And how do you know that the FFG split was amiicable?? Just because that FFG didn’t start mudslinging? Most professional companies solve their problems behind closed doors.
FFG sits long enough on a huge pile of Dust Stuff so i think it is reasonable to think that they weren’t unhappy that they had left the Dust Boat.
I was playing Dust day one. Bought the original box from Gencon 2010. AEG never distributed, they realized before release that they couldn’t handle the load, so FFG rebranded after the first shipment. I think it’s a decent relationship since Dust manufactures the X-Wing models for them
It’s more than two. AT43 was a source of distress and drama as well. But that really isn’t the point. Dust Studios has not put priority on customers, whose money they already have.
I’m a backer. Battleground has pretty much completed their part of the order, the now worthless rule books, dice and unit cards. Dust Studios portion of my order, approximately $450.00 worth of models (all of which are for sale at the Dust Studios website) is still outstanding. Yep. I’ve received about a 1/10th of my ordered units. We have been told (back in 2015) that outstanding back orders will be shipped “in the Spring.” That’s the total communication we’ve had on that matter.
Interestingly, I’m also a backer of Robotech Tactics… which involved Ninja Division as well… and I’m still under 50% fulfillment on that as well. Granted Palladium has been sending me weekly updates, and Ninja Division’s involvement is not, to my knowledge, connected to the delay… but it is a rather interesting parallel… the same names involved in all the high ticket unfulfilled Kickstarters I backed.
I’d stay away folks. And Brennon… I’m not sure how you see this storm as mostly, or even partially abated; Dust Studios still owes me over $400 worth of paid-for product
Ninja Division have ran two of their own large KS campaigns and both of those have fulfilled without any issues. They’ve also ran a third but that isn’t due to fulfil until later in the year.
Ninja division post on fb that they are not in conjunction with Dust Studio…
It was not more than two. AT:43 has nothing to do with Dust. Paolo was not a lead designer or decision maker for Rackham. Paolo has done many backer discounts through the process of this getting done, Battlefield did nothing. Cards are not useless, since most of the profiles won’t change and all future books and cards will also be free pdf. You should research your claims a bit more
Again look at my post before.
You forget AEG
Nope, I didn’t. They bowed out before actual distribution started
I would hesitate to suggest that Ninja Division are going to help past backers get their missing stuff unless Ninja Division make a clear statement to that effect. They may be interested in launching a rebranded product from day 1, but are they prepared to accept any responsibility or financial burden for another companies mess?
They. Are. Sharing. A. Booth.
Nothing more.
No. Hard pass.
Ninja Division is only helping distribute. There will be no development partnership this time around. Ninja Division success or failure on their own projects will be mostly irrelevant
Besides, there won’t be any desert left, what with Lloyd drooling over anything new and
DUSTy.
Well for one, I will be staying positive and hoping the game picks up traction, we like it and heck this way me and my Allies army can take on Dawn @deltagamegirl22 and Lloyd’s @lloyd dreaded SSU!
The 2nd picture (with the helicopter) cracks me up. You’ve got a guy in full combat gear who seems to have an expression of disbelief of what on earth is going on.
All the women, throwing their hair back, wearing very little in comparison to him; it’s like he’s thinking
“hang on, and I in some weird dream? What is going on?”
Yeah that jumped out at me. Clearly the weirdness in this weird world war setting extends to the military-issue bikini. Hmm
I really like the look and feel of Dust, but given what’s happened previously and given that the Warfare rules have now been handed over to a fan…
Well…
I’m not sure I’ll get back into it this time. Fool me once… Fool me twice…
I really like some the models they have been putting up on the site, from the new starters to the Red Ace box, but while it is surely a good thing for the DUST fans that the game will live on, this new edition is going to be an extremely tough sell and rightly so.
Get ready. All of the usual complainers have been waiting for this opportunity to start floating their ignorance again. Rather than simply moving on, if they were dissatisfied, they’ll take advantage of the anonymity the internet provides to piss, moan, bitch, and complain…even more — and try to run down the game, the company, and it’s players/supporters. They’ll start vomiting up words like “fanboy” and such to insult those such as I who actually know (and comprehend) the real story and what happened. It’s already started.
The facts are, Dust Studio and Battlefront have parted ways. All obligations are being filled – some quicker than others (that’s reality folks. Welcome to the game industry). Dust is producing new cards, new units, and updating the rules (as any good solid company does with their successful game – again, Welcome to the game industry). The game and company are moving forward. The players/supporters are moving forward. The only ones still wallowing in their own perceived misery are the usual gaggle of complainers who come out of the woodwork like termites to continue their stale griping.
The game is fine. It’s still fun. The models are still beautiful.
Not being fulfilled? Really?
I received my entire order. Wave 1 was shipped. Wave 2 was shipped. Wave 3 is currently being produced and shipped. Before you spout off with your ignorance, I suggest you do some research. Real research. Not the drivel posted in the Kickstarter comments page.
Move on.
Thing is, they’re not updating the rules because the rules need updating. In fact, as I understand it, the game will be pretty much the same, save for a bit of rebalancing and a horrible new layout.
No, the reason they update is that it’s Battlefront’s name on the old rules. Sure, Paolo tried to claim that this wasn’t so, but go check the book yourself…
As for the orders being fulfilled, count yourself lucky that yours was. Lots of people out there still missing their stuff.
Luckily I got out of the Kickstarter in time. The whole thing stank like a dead rat from the beginning…
In short, Dust Studios deserve every angry complaint leveled at them.
Now, to be fair, Battlefront deserves a fair bit of criticism for how they’ve been handling Flames of War over the last few years, no doubt about that. But that’s a debate for another time…
Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.
What am I being ignorant about?
The fact that the rules change because Dust Studios can’t use the Battlefront version?
The fact that many backers haven’t had their order fulfilled?
I believe that comment was aimed at me.
Paolo’s never claimed not to be revamping a bit to remove things Battlefront helped developed, he wants the rules to be all theirs and pretty much has to have it that way now. It’s more of a version 2.5 than a third edition.
The Kickstarter will be fulfilled, that’s already been stated by both sides, I’m still
waiting on two KS’s that have taken longer and all future rules and cards will be available for free download, so there’s no real wasted money from the last rulebook.
Oh great one, enlighten us with your wisdom. And while your at it perhaps you can enolighten the clearly hacked off people on Kickstarter who say that they still haven’t recieved most of their stuff.
See above.
Not an answer to my comment though
Read it again. You’ll get it eventually.
I dont think anyone is planning to act according to your post, so yeah .. do move on
I haven’t received all of my order yet from the KS. I am glad you did, but I have not
So is Lloyd giggling like a school girl doing his jammy dance, or curling up into a ball? Tune in to the weekender to find out!
Nothing will make me support a Dust product again. Not after that kickstarter.
I am guessing, mrex21, that you do not work in customer services.
I am still waiting for approx 2/3 of my (rather large) kickstarter pledge.
In their defence, Battlefront did deliver the printed parts of the kickstarter but I am STILL unable to play to game as Dust Studios have made such an almighty screw up of things.
Now, they are bringing out a new set of rules to replace the ones I already have but have unable to use owing to lack of models.
If I am moaning, bitching and complaining then so be it but you seem to be showing a rather dismissive and hostile view towards people with a genuine grievance towards Dust Studios.
So, with respect, please shut up.
You’d guess wrong. And, I don’t believe you.
If you want to play so bad, go play. Get some models. Play the game. No one nailed your foot to the floor. Rather than sit around whining and trying to pin blame on everyone but yourself….go get some models and play the game.
Yes…you are moaning, bitching and complaining. With no respect, why don’t you take your own advice. Go solve your problem and come up with a solution. Quit with the ‘poor little me’ persecution crap.
So you do work in customer services.
Would your employer be Dust Studios by any chance?
Not at all, actually.
I know who you are now … keep it on the kickstarter page ffs, weve had enough of YOUR stale pissing m8. Go support the game you love instead and make sure its survives, come up with a solution that isnt so damn trollish.
No, but he is Moderator of the Offical Dust FB Group and a friend to P. Parente.
So he is totaly unprejudiced 😉
Not so much a friend. More like a friendly acquaintance.
Yeah…
Just one problem – you can’t get the models anymore.
The local hobby store put them up for sale months ago, not wanting anything to do with the game anymore.
If I want to play, I have to order from other parts of the EU. That’s not exactly helpful if you want to form a thriving community.
Face it, Dust Studios screwed up big time on this one. In many areas, the game is dead now. Both retailers and players have been burned too many times… The game’s spent too long in limbo… No-one’s interested anymore…
It’s sad, it really is. I liked the vision that Paolo had, and I found the rules to be easy to learn and play.
But without opponents to play against, why should I bother supporting the game?
Yes, you can get the models. Very easily, I might add. Now, of course, no one is going to drive them to your house, put them together for you, and cook you a nice meal afterward…
…but the models are easy to get. If your store can’t get them, then perhaps you need to find a new store.
He’s in the EU and due to not having a distributor in this continent the game is nigh impossible to get.
Easy?
Pull the other one!
It’s not “easy” when I have to order it from another country and wait weeks for it to arrive. And that’s assuming that it’s even in stock…
My local store did get them once. Probably could get them again, but they got tired of all the nonsense surrounding Dust Studios that they put their stock up for sale at a deep discount and pulled out of the game.
Someone is trying to making a famous last stand for the epically failed Dust KS.
Looks like even more are continuing the same old stale pissing, moaning, bitching, and complaining, making excuses, willful and deliberate ignorance, and general grousing.
The Kickstarter was a debacle. Never said it wasn’t. But, if you didn’t know what happened, you are ignorant and could be helped. If you still don’t know what happened, you’re stupid and are a lost cause.
Well rather than slag people, tell us what happened?
just /ignore on this one, its for the best .. its difficult i know
Do you honestly think it would make a difference? Your mind is made up. Why confuse you with facts?
You should post Paolo a link to this thread and see if he agrees that your behaviour is helping the brand along .. if he endorses your aggressive trolling maybe thats also a good thing for Dust? Give it a try eh?
Judging by the level of interest in the latest Dust offerings, the last stand will be more of a whimper.
By the way, BoW were a little overzealous on their editing and it’s been confirmed
elsewhere by Dust that there is no partnership with Ninja Division and that
they are just sharing a booth together. Dust is still self producing and self
distributing.
don’t try to reason with mrex21 alias Michael Zakbar.
He is a moderator of the Offical Dust Studio FB Group and prone to insult people.
I especially like to remember one occurrence where after he was critized serveral times he changed his KS Name and then posted that he would know the person behind his old nick and and went for his own defense..
Very Stupid Idea, if you change your KS-Name all your old comments get your new name and the cover was blown immediately. 😀
https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/74998321/comments
Thats how you improve the Dust brand right there, congrats mrex21
Hahaha, and he called me stupid.
Wow, what a charming fellow.
And?
I gotta admit. That is a good story.
The good thing is that this “Story” is archived on the KS Comments 😀
Of course it is. Why wouldn’t it be? Your “interpretation” however….
…well…let’s just say it’s entertaining. 😉
Once I realized I would not be seeing what I backed during the KS I washed my hands of the game and put the few models I did have away. My local gaming store refuses to bring in new stock and I agree since the models we paid for are now showing up “rebranded” for a different campaign. And the only way to get the models we want is to buy them from the Dust website. It’s sad since I did want to play and paint the models but I won’t pay twice for the same thing.
You won’t have to pay twice since they are fulfilling the KS in full…
At least that is what they Said in the December Updates on KS.
But lets wait and See what wie get in Wave 3
@lasse I think the karma each of you have speak for it self
DUST is a good, fun game. The models are fairly good, but I’m not convinced they’re up to the level required for the recent price increases. The Kickstarter has been a shambles, but I’m hopeful everything will now be delivered soon as promised. I personally like the walkers best and think the female models are the worst; just cringe worthy in an 80’s porn type of way. If that type of thing floats your boat then good for you, but they don’t even look sexy to me just a bit ridiculous. The current new rulebook is largely a copy/paste of the BF version done in a new style and with a few rule tweaks; the main one being how LOS is handled. I will continue to play it with what I have and look forward to the rest of my pledge arriving, but doubt I’ll expand my collection significantly.
As to the font of wisdom above it is best to ignore him. Anyone who has been in the KS comments or the Facebook page will know who it is and it really is best not to engage with him on this topic at all.
I’m actually quite charming.
My foible is I don’t have a very high tolerance for idiots or their blather. That, and it’s a guilty pleasure to follow these threads to hear the same old folks post the same old gripes. It’s fun to see how long they can keep them afloat on pure rhetoric and no factual information.
That’s the second time you’ve touted this great factual information you have. Well come on let’s have it them. Stop with the you’re all morons because I know something you don’t know rubbish.
Or are you just a troll?
The entirety of the situation has been posted numerous times in Facebook, on the KS page, in other pages. I’m not going to spoon feed you. If you don’t know the whole story by now, you are being willfully obstinate and just don’t want to know or you’re just lazy.
Go out and find it. It’s there.
From a non-kickstarter backer, it seems a lot of people have nailed it bang on.
– If you’re not pals with Paolo, you’ve probably not received all your KS rewards.
– The game rules are getting redone even though some people haven’t even received the bits to play the old/current version of the game.
– Neither Battlefront (or Battlef***ed as you frequently refer to them) nor Dust Studios are entirely blame free in the situation. Its a shame about what happened and people are understandably frustrated at the speed at which things are being delivered, especially when some of the items have been on sale since October and before.
Have I missed anything? :S
Only the third one, and even then just barely. The other two are more or less just baseless conjecture.
For the record, I’m not being abusive towards you or having a go, I’m just saying what I see.
– 1st one isn’t quite so baseless conjecture, I’ll grant you that there’s a good amount though. You are one of the few people here who has stated to have received your rewards, you have also stated you are an acquaintance of Mr Parente’s.
– 2nd point, people here have stated they haven’t received the things to play the game with. Not baseless.
– 3rd point. Things were on sale at the UK Dust Off that some backers have stI’ll not received. That was October. Neither Dust Studios or battlefront are blame free. You can’t argue that at all.
I just don’t get the anger and instant insulting against people who are understandably a bit miffed with what’s happened.
I’d say a little was missed.
Battlefront orders from Dust Studios according to what was on the Kickstarter orders, DS fills and sends to BF, who distribute out to backers. So, there’s no ‘friends of Paolo get stuff before everyone else’.
Letters went out to ALL backers as well, multiple times and backers were alerted many times via Facebook, Dust Forums, Kickstarter comments section about deals and exclusive discounts Paolo was giving them to help ease some pain for some that were still going through the Kickstarter mess but still wanted to follow and collect the game still.
There have not been models that haven’t already been distributed through the Kickstarter that are for sale. That’s just not true. I ordered one of everything for the Axis from the KS, and there is nothing for sale that I haven’t already received. Paolo even was going to do ‘Babylon’ style dice for the new starter sets, but changed them to regular dice when people reminded him that we hadn’t seen those yet, and so he shelved them until they could be distributed to backers.
The situation was far from perfect. I’ve followed the game from day one, and I do side with DS on most things because I’ve gotten to know the people behind the game, but Paolo is far from blameless, but he’s attempted to try to make good as best he can in the situation and he still needs the game to grow. People will form their own opinions, and when the last wave ships in April or May, there will finally be some closure and the game can move on without a shadow behind it.
Mike Z receiving everything and being a pal of Paolo we’ll put down to coincidence then.
I’ll accept Paolo tried to ease the pain with offers and whatnot. When people have spent hundreds of dollars already on the kickstarter, you can see why that may get the backs up with some people. “Don’t have the things yet youvery spent money on? Buy more right now!”
Stuff WAS on sale before going to backers. There were murmurs of discontent when things like the jagdwotan, mercenary starters, Justin and co, Tina etc were on sale at the Dust Off before they were sent to backers.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the game, I went to the European championship for it. I’ve been put off however by parts of the community and their reactions like we’ve seen here and the price hikes that have really decreased the value of the models against the quality.
The mercenery squad that was free one per backer have not been received by anyone on the Kickstarter, but are being sold retail.
http://www.dustgame.com/products_d.php?sid=77&id=606
Availability and price increases is the main issue with growing this game. In the UK there seems to be just one shop getting the product in and with them having to order direct from Hong Kong, the prices aren’t great for the quality of the newer models. Pricing up a new axis army now comes in at more expensive than a 40k army which is crazy to think.
Also the new models are a really weird mix of materials, I picked up a newer German unit (sand vipers I think). 5 guys for 16 quid. The bodies were like mantic restic (not a nice material for me personally), the arms seemed to be a harder restic and then the weapons were like toy sprued hard plastic.
GW are of course the easy comparison, 10 marines with a multitude of options and poseability cost less than 10 of these guys.
“GW are of course the easy comparison, 10 marines with a multitude of options and poseability cost less than 10 of these guys.”
This! This is the one reason for me to never get into it.
That seems right to me, a friend wanted to pick some up at Salute last year and there did seem to be a distinct lack of product there.
There’s a distinct lack at the one shop in the UK. As soon as it comes in, the few copies that arrive are snapped up by the local gaming group and any left sold online to the players around the UK. Its not a distribution model, it’s just a shop selling mainly to its local populace and you can’t really expect anything more. To get it out there they need to be getting it in with the likes of Esdevium who distribute to most if not all of the game shops in the country. The only thing is whether they can produce it quick enough to keep a distributor stocked.
I played Dust before, during and since the KS debacle and like many other backers I am still waiting on a large chunk of my pledge. Obviously I’m a big fan of the game and want to see it flourish but I think the recent price hikes are a mistake. As this thread clearly shows, lots of people are still wary of the brand, a high price tag just creates another barrier to entry.
Glad to hear this news to be honest big fan of the game even with the issues they’ve had as I love the world and want to see it expanded upon. Hope the new rules fix the aircraft rules though.
Hello everyone, I know tempers can run high and patience low when it comes to DUST and how things progressed over the last couple of years. I am also a backer and have not received all the items in my pledge. Yes I am disheartened by this, but please let’s be civil to one another. Please remember this is a game after all and we are here to share our passion and love for games! – BoW Gianna
Well said
very well said 🙂
So another re-branding another set of rules and another partner. These guys change more often than a GW game.
I like a stable game to buy into, this just isn’t that. Besides my idea of WW2 in 1947 doesn’t involve so many scantily clad women figures. Paolo really needs to get a real life.
I am waiting for most of my stuff too. I hope there will be enough players left so I can sell the things to at least get some of my money back.
Are people just now noticing that there’s a pin-up aspect to the art of this game? That’s been there ART wise from the beginning especially with the depictions of Koshka. While I get the Mechanic min’s are the first gaming scale mini’s like that, the original model kits had figs similar. I get that’s not for everyone but it’s not exactly new either.
I wonder how it comes that DS needs 120 extra Days to Manufacture the missing stuff for the KS when Mr. M. Zakbar knew already in 30. Januar from Mr. Paolo Posts himseld that they already had Produced everthing!
Here his Comment on the KS Page:
Neal, I appreciate what you are saying, but you are in error. From Paolo’s own mouth (as postings) he has shown that he has the Babylon models ‘in the hopper’. That is, there are thousands of pieces ready to go. Battlefront has simply taken the money and skipped. They have not paid Dust Studios. Dust Studios has fulfilled their side of the commitment. ” I want to know where my goddamn money is. Battlefront are thieves and liars. Furthermore, they’re cowards. They don’t even have the spine or balls to come out and face all the customers (including Dust Studios) they ripped off. They’ve taken over $400,000 and crawled back into whatever Kiwi shithole they slimed out of. They owe me my money or they owe me what I paid for.
30. Jan 2015 Dust: Operation Babylon
Probably because of of all of the knuckleheads who wanted to change every little thing. Perhaps there was more that Battlefront wasn’t saying. Maybe the lists were bigger. Who knows? From what you posted above, YOU are stating that everything was produced. I did not. I do appreciate your effort though. It brings me joy that you devoted moments of your life to me that you won’t ever get back. My heart warms.
But…thanks for playing, I suppose.
Or at least have everything in the hopper a year ago
Again, Beasts of War misspoke. Ninja Division are not partnering with DS. They are merely sharing a booth at GAMA. Dust will be self produced and self distributed.
Beasts of War have just mimicked what it says on the Dust website:
“Dust Studio is attending the GAMA trade show 2016 with our fantastic partners, Ninja Division, from Monday 14th to Friday 18th, March 2016.”
Well I for one am pleased to hear we will be getting a look at the new rules and cards so soon. I thought BF did a pretty good job with the last rule book but I am keen to see what direction DS are taking Dust in.
In case anyone missed it.
http://ninjadivision.com/clarification-regarding-recent-announcement-of-ninja-division-and-dust-partnership/
I play Dust Warfare, which is now in the hands of the Community, and is being redone as well. I’m assuming this is going to be like Tactics or Battlefield, neither of which I got into. Warfare is where it’s at.
