Justin and James are taking to the field of battle with a couple of Kings of War armies in an effort to show you how it all works! Who will come out on top?

I live for ‘Demo Days’! Another good one boys.
very cool demo
great demo
Nice to see a proper demo of KOW, looking forward to the next part!
Awesome demo, hopefully convince some people to get in on the game.
Got a bit worried there at the beginning with two famed dice throwers I thought nothing was gonna die.
KoW. A quick game unless horrific rolling turns it into a pillow fight 🙂
This is defenetly welcome video.
looks like your both enjoying and the characteristic simple but effective mantic rules build is obvious cant wait for part 2! also nice to see a demo thats nice and relaxed a big plus for all the BOW demo vids for me
The full rules are downloadable for free right?
Yes. They’re here http://www.manticgames.com/free-rules.html
I’ve been seriously considering getting into this game more and more lately. Great video as always.
I was getting real excited to see the chariot kill that warmachine, but then the video ended.
Interesting mechanics. Goes very fast. Can’t get into KoW just yet but I’ll keep in in my radar.
Thank you gents, for a look at how the game works. I like that it is simple to fight and your not removing minis, so no one needs to touch your minis but you. I think daddy wants this for xmas , yes he doe’s ( why third person, to much beer ).
an orc waaaaaagh fest to get my blood boiling
Good stuff!
Nice armies. I want.
Love the demos!
Interesting mechanics. I’m pretty interested in this now.
I really enjoy your Demo games they really help me understand how to play the game.
Wow the worst thing is i did not see the end yet that demo really put me in to this game , the first game i have seen from Mantic was dreadball and the on kikstarter i have seen Deadzone witch i have pledge around 1000$ and now i am on kikstarter for Mars Attack so the last pne frpm them woul be Kings of war witch i will bought some army’s and then make some medieval fight …… Wouuu great demo A+
Great demo, Nice to see Justin playing for a change.
I love the clean fast rule system. For me the fact that the unit stays at full strength and no need to remove individual minis means less chance of damaging them, but more importantly you get to enjoy the imposing and impressive appearance of each full unit from start to finish.
Nice fast system too so large army games will not bog down.
Whats got 2 thumbs and is gonna be getting this game…this guy!!!
Very Very Very helpful… winning an army would also be pretty helpful 😀
This game looks fun. I would love to try it!
Come on James seek some Dreadball revenge
Great Game, I love the simple rules, makes it very quick. Can’t wait to put my undead army to the test.
undead
forgot to test the utterly spineless on the mawbeasts against the mummys
I love this game. I work all the time and have one day off. This game is so fast to play all i need to do is call the guys and crush my enemies with my dwarf army!!!
Justin playing? And appears to be winning?
Jokes aside, the game looks cool.
I love the idea of winning and losing by your own dice rolls (in your own turn at least). Not the least because you can merrily drink to your lost soldiers in your own turn, without having to put the beer down.
You’d think they planned that or something…
I love KoW and I love demo games. Thank you Beasts of War!
so a unit can charge even if at the beginning of the turn has no line of sight to the enemy, right?
Yup, you need line of sight when you complete the charge. As there’s no formal charge declaration, it doesn’t matter when you get this. James had this right when he allowed the mawbeasts to charge the ghouls in turn two. The mawbeasts could not charge the werewolves though as they could not see them at the start of their charge move.
Undead can get round even that restriction with a magic user, who can make a unit move in the shooting phase (after a pivot in the movement phase) and this may bring a unit into combat.
You need to see the target unit when you pick the Charge! order for that unit during the Move phase.
the Charge rule states:
A charge is the only way your units can move into contact with the enemy. A unit can charge a single enemy unit (‘the target’) as long as the following conditions are met:
– the target is at least partially in your unit’s front arc;
– the unit’s Leader can see the target;
– the distance between the base of the unit’s Leader and the closest point of the target is equal to or less than double your unit’s Speed;
– there is enough space for your unit to physically move into contact with the target by moving as described below.
So if Justin had moved his Gore riders sideways left instead of right would his Fleabag riders been able to charge the Werewolves or would they have been outside the Fleabag’s front arc?
They’d have been unable to charge as they were out of arc to do so. Only an undeead unit with magical support could have got into combat in that situation.
Game looks awesome. Cant wait to try it out. Good job with the demo, like always.
Do like the idea only one player rolling dice at one time… my go lol your go K.I.S.S. Keep up the good work guys
Great battle report , you really seem to enjoy yourselves, keep up the good work
Game is looking great and agree keeping the full units on the board certainly makes the experience look great. I wait with great anticipation for the rest of the game demo. Looking like it is going to be a fantastic week of interesting videos, good work BoW and Mantic.
im thinking of getting it to this is Mhorgoth Rising Fantasy Battleset a good way as I love dwarfs and undead
Looks great. Thanks for the demo
Part 2 please! I own dreadball and pledged on deadzone, but have never really looked at Kings of War. From what I’ve seen so far it looks pretty good, would love to see more plastic chaps in some of the factions and also a bit more variety in some of them but I guess that will come with time. Anyone who plays this could you advise whether it’s better to get the 2 player starter or is the hardback book + minis the better option?
Hard to say mate. If you want to get going right away I’d go the 2player set but if you are looking to build up a force and you’re a book junkie go the latter for fiction and inspiration.
I went both…for reasons…
Haven’t played KOW for a year (other games on the go). Great re-introduction love the quick play rules.
my first time watching a game, game looks awesome. And great demo!
Undead me up, buttercup.
Great demo vid guys!
Looks like a very quick and simple game.
The catapult hit!? But… that NEVER happens!
Great demo, looks like a fun and fast game with simple rules. You got me interested, gonna download the rules and have a look.
I believe a well known, ‘market leading’ similar game used to have rules this simple many years ago. Love the speed and simplicity while still requiring tactical nouse!
Now that’s not true if you’re talking about youknowwho..ever read third edition!
I’m digging these straight forward rules.
God I love this game.
KoW the game that does mix well with any amount of beer
Really cool vid, like all the banter as well as the demo going quite in-depth and covering spells magic items, the whole works.
Demo vids are my favourite
love the speed of it, very streamlined – and that artillery is brutal!
…when it hits 😉
Awww – I wanted to see Undead Magic come into play – Looks like fun though!
Excellent report so far!
Ya good mechanics and fast. Also i like how wounds are done allows for one to just get a big base for units and no trays.
Great demo video showing off a great game.
I like the way the rules just let you play the game and do NOT get in the way of your enjoyment.
We down loaded the rules and played through a few games just using card cut outs to represent the units to start to see what the game play was like for the basic armies. .Then we simply bought into the armies we liked the play style of.
Some say KoW is a simple game. This is not true.
KoW has clear well defined rules that allow you to play a deeply tactical game .
(However, tactical acumen is inversely proportional to alcohol consumption in my experience. lol.)
there is so much humour in this game
Liking this so far, Justins dice throwing ability is quite impressive, almost warrenesque levels.
Great demo! Can’t wait to see part two.
These Demo’s are a great idea. I havent had a game yet.
Its about time BoW did a Mantic week! I am pumped to see how this game ends! though I think the orks are going to win it!
moar orcs!!!
Cant wait to see more.
Great demo game, can’t wait for part 2.
Wooo, I love beast of war
This appears to be a lot more streamline not as much heavy lifting in reference to rule set.
Which is a plus, trying to bring people into war gaming can be a rough day at the office to begin with, add a stock pile of rules to also overcome can make bringing in new people almost impossible.
It would appear that KoW could very well be a game changer in this quest…
I am looking forward to watching part 2 thank you for the demo 🙂
This new direction BoW is going with also including a Demo. is a great way to show case game systems.
I am getting alot from it
Oh ya gotta love the ork models they are bad ass IMHO
Thanks for the gameplay video, very cool.
curse you for the cliff hanger. lovin this game.
This game looks pretty fast and furious. I’m looking forward to part 2.
Great to see a good game being played. Would love to see more battle reports and some close up of the minis. Thanks
I’ve been looking forward this week. Just came across Kings of War recently and am really interested
Actually shocked that you did not take a necromancer. Undead are so slow without dark surge.
Honest answer? I left my Necromancer on my desk at the Mantic Bunker. D’oh! Next time…
So first question, how much is an army going to run me? I know next to nothing about this game and haven’t spent time putting together a list and pricing it out.
Thank you for the Demo!
Kings of War is great, got loads of stuff through the Kickstarter and have been following Mantic from the beginning.
Also created a blog link for the comp at
http://crispypete.wordpress.com/
Cheers fella’s
Nice blog fellah I love how you get stuck into those infinity figures they terrify me with their fine detail!
Not played a proper wargame in ages but I’m champing at the bit now!
Been thinking for a while that this could take over from a certain other fantasy battle game in our group. Just need to try a couple of games now! (which will surely lead to buying and painting another army…)
Yet another good video and making the game simple
Best alternative to WHFB I’ve seen.
Never played a war band table game, but this does look fun and I am now giving it a look! Tho the faction I am most interested in is the Basilians….
Lovely little demo – can’t wait to get my undead and dwarfs to the table after the kickstarter.
Fantastic game and Great demo thanks BOW
As others have said – the beauty of the game is the speed at which it is played! Love the timed element also to really push you and your opponent 🙂
Great demo game and looking forward to the next segment.
aww I was kind of hoping to see what the mincer would have done
Entry 6! Rules seem stunning, can’t wait to try them out for myself
KoW is a really fun game!
Great coverage as always, keep up the great work guys
PART 2! I NEED to know what happens!
This plays so well, its very refreshing not getting bogged down having to refer back to the rules every five minutes, Play seems quick and easy and the battle flows as you see results of previous actions forming quickly from turn to turn.
Excellent a must have.
Very cool demo game! I am always thrilled when my Balefire gets a hit.
Great demo guys. Boy does this game move at a pace. I can see how big games can get done in no time at all.
Bring out Part 2!
Game looks great, just goes to show to simple well designed rules leads to quick and entertaining game play. Love the combat – simple, effective and easy to learn, everything you want in a gaming system.
Great Demo keep it up!!!
I’m not quite sold on the “we abstract the number of attacks on the unit type” thingy. Feels strange, especially with shooting.
But the damage-system looks very interessting. Looking forward to see, what great commanders can do to “rally” or “inspire” troops.
These demos are great – makes more sense of any rule book when you actually see it demonstrated.
great demo, can’t wait until the next part
Nice demo. I have to say that for the most part KoW did not excite me with their model range. However, the rules seem pretty quick and fun. If the base sizes are compatible, might have to give this a try.
The base sizes are compatible 🙂
I’m liking the simple and fast-paced rules.
Love the Mantic and BoW demos. Continuing the good work from Dreadball Academy.
No ‘Big Shield’ defence for the Mincer from the catapult?
Love the KoW coverage guys, keep it coming. Can BoW cover some tournaments – brief play by plays would be awesome.
I like the look of this game and the minis.
nom nom nom
hihi…. I think I have finally understood how damaging and wavering works… thanks for that guys! great video and you certainly look like you are having tons of fun! 🙂
BoW X-week is an excellent format. Getting solid, in depth info about a game system is great to watch over a week. Didn’t know that much about KoW so this has been really useful.
Looks like a much smaller simpler game than I would have thought, but its a demo game so i suppose thats not representative of normal games
Last Tuesday I played my first KoW battle. What a great game!
Nice to see a game of it
Aah – a fantasy game that plays quickly. This concept I like. More please!
This will be quite interesting. I never saw a game of Kings of War up to this point.
super simple and a lot of fun
Thanks for this awesomeness.
A great demo game, I love how quick this is to pick up and I’m really coming round to the whole not removing models system…
Cant wait for part 2.
i love this game (my first wargame), and i can´t wait to buy all the miniatures of each army
Oh good a demo lets see how different this is to Warhammer…. which I used to love but will never play again as GW suck now!
Enjoyed the video. Still in the process of painting up my Ogres for my first game.
This looks nice and easy. After a few games it should be quite fast-paced. This might be a good alternative for a ‘simple’ boardgame, or to get gaming friends into the wargame hobby.
Awesome!
At long last, a fantasy wargaming ruleset that doesn’t require a masters degree or a quarter tonne of codices to play. You’re not likely to be hung, drawn and quartered for fielding anything less than full pedigree army either 😉
If you are a collector of large, highly detailed, expensive figures there are other games manufacturers to choose from, but if like me you want to build large, inexpensive, quality armies with effective, playable ruleset, then Mantic’s Kings of War have it.
Needles
