Gangs of Rome is another game that reveals more depth whenever the publishers talk about it. It keeps getting higher on my shopping list whenever it comes up. And the Sarissa buildings make it even more attractive. (Now I want to add mobs to Necromunda.)
And the best part of the starter is £35!
The starter set is a no brainer. The rules, cost of the game elements and models generally and the nature of this game means this is a great choice as a second/third system in any gamers life.

there is not, but I’d be willing to give it a go, and I have a ton of stuff for it. So it’s up to the OTTers if they have the time at some point
The ruined or being restored buildings would be great for Romano British games
Much of this Sarissa terrain is easily reusable across multiple systems over the ages.

I’m glad I was strong and didn’t by the arena…..everything else in multiples mind you, but dodged the arena….that’s a lovely looking kit though, I should probably buy it

I really like the look of this game, it really down come with so much stuff. Its such a great concept coming away from soldier skirmishers. I love the fully emersive capabilities of the game, lloydes right with the terrain. It makes such a big difference. If only i had an endless pot of money!

Really loving the whole feel of GoR, the mechanics are cool, the minis are great, Sarissa has done such a tremendous range of scenery to submerse you into the world. Whats even better is the high calibre of the community that have embraced the game – the facebook group is well worth looking at. Awesome conversions, awesome scenery, fantastic people willing to help, comment, give guidance, it’s got to be one of the nicest online communities I’ve ever been involved in. Barring BoW of course, please don’t shoot me!!

There is something warm and fuzzy about a box that size allowing you to get started with a game – it feels so accessible. Mind you those samurai look great. The Test of Honour table at the show looked very cool too.
I’ve been keeping an eye out for this to show up in my local area. Sadly its not made it here yet.

I like the fade mechanic. Seems like it would make things way more interesting. Not making everything WYSIWYG is a good choice as well.

Amazing value in that starter set. The game is really good too. Had my first try using the mob bases last week and they add a lot to the game.

This game came out of the blue when it was announced and it looks brilliant! I never thought this premise would be cool and if you had pitched the idea to me I would probably have found it boring. But seeing it, understanding the backdrop, the cool mechanics )love that you can hide in crowds e.g.) and the amazing buildings I am already a fan.
Well done War Banner, Sarissa and everyone else. This is one of the reasons this hobby is special.

there are special characters you can hire, one of which is a Gladiator, nice mini as well, priced at £4’s it’s a great deal. Plus you can get a great big dog for the same price. This game has great character

This game interests me but I don’t like the sound of the blind-ish buy nature of the minis. I think I need to see the system in operation to fully appreciate how it feels and works
No. No. That’s the best part, it appeals to our shiny, shiny OCD side. Hmmm maybe that’s not good 😉 there is a lot of variety.

That is good value for 2 gangs AND a building. I just don’t like the idea of wanting a guy who is good with a sword and buying 5 blisters of guys with swords and then seeing their stat cards and finding none of them can use a sword because stats are randomly generated and hidden. That may not be a viable example in the game but you get my thought. But £35 is worth a punt if any of my friends are interested.
the mini’s data card doesn’t have any weapon specific data as far as i know, that is covered by the coins, though you do get these randomly when buying the mini’s there are only 10 sets and you can buy them in the war banner store. But as the blind buy is still there with the mini’s and character cards you can get around the Blind buy restriction when tooling up your ganger.
In the starter set all minis are single cast, which is great and quick to get the ready for the table. Do like the standard minis with all the weapon and head options even thuough they’re a bit fiddle to put together. Used to hate metal and preferred plastic – GW, Bolt Action… but do like these ones.
I used to prefer the feel of metal, but as someone who usually has a 13 mile round trip on a bicycle with 2 boxes of minis strapped to my back on game night, I’ve really come round to loving the weight of plastics. One 28mm metal mini weight not much. 200+ of them strapped to my back for long periods starts to weigh more than you realise.

I love the idea in Gangs of Rome of the “mobs” of people on the board and being able to hide amongst them. And those Sarissa buildngs are gorgeous – especially the half built aqueduct. This definitely warrants a closer look. Just what I need, more game systems!

I picked up the gangs of rome bundle at salute, brilliant demo, brilliant small scale skirmish game, and the terrain from scariisa is starting to improve and looks really really good.
The tables for this look fantastic. Looking forward to trying this one out.
