Heroic Showdown: Per vs Max

When Per brought his 8th Army up against the Afrika Korps, he was on the back foot. His men were outnumbered; exposed to Max’s unrelenting German rage.
Enflamed by pride and the seduction of an easy victory, a few troops from the Afrika Korps climb atop their crated cover, open a rally of machine gun fire…and miss two of the three men directly in front of them.
They should have gone to German Specsavers.
The 8th Army seeing a small advantage move forward to assault, and a gruesome combat ensues. Although in the end the brave men of the 8th lost their lives, the Afrika Korps lost good soldiers.
It was a lesson to Max and his Afrika Korps in the follies of war but, more importantly, a fascinating battle to watch on the tabletop!
I’ve always like how fast and brutal assaults can be in Bolt Action. You aren’t rolling 40 dice to hit and then following up with wounds then saves, then fighting for 4 more turns because no one is actually dying
When your only armor is a shirt, and people shoot at you, you tend to die. Except when they roll ones.
This is how it should end: Both players having fun.

We have a phrase in BA which seems to always apply in every game ive ever played, ‘bolt action happens’. Its when the odds are heavily stacked in your favour but no ones told the dice.
I once had a entire ss squad wiped out by a few plucky Russian conscripts in an assault…my assault that is.

Combat in BA is quick, lethal and so decisive. It backs up what @oriskany has been saying about infantry tactics. It’s the sign of a good historical ruleset when it reflects the tactics of the period.
Assaults are brutal
Thank you bootcampers, you’re helping me scratch my BA itch despite a lack of local opponents. And time. And finished armies.
Assaults are definitely a quick, brutal affair in Bolt Action.
Looks like great fun!
I did that with some fanatic Australians from the pacific range. They lost their combat but made their foe think again about charging any other unit. Lol
This is what it’s all about, the fun.
