Amazing news, they make Great Cruel Seas game and I hope that Black Seas will be great too and fill my nostalgy from Man’o’War

janus1004

This could be something, would be exciting to test!

tuffyears

where do pirates shop ?

Arrrrrgos

pagan8th

Pirates shop at ‘Toys Argh Us’

lordofuzkulak

Not since it was sent to Davey Jones’ Locker .

?

vorganov

Must Have.

mischief

Damn it, I lost all my cards for Cruel Seas, and now you want me to get another sea game? I thought it was going to be pirates, but hey, looks like a no.

pagan8th

That’s a big table… I hope it scales down to something that will fit in the room…

Robert

Interesting to see Warlord release this. I do like a nice ship!

nogginthenog

I think the sailing ships will probably work better as a game than the MTB classes in cruel seas if I’m honest.

That one didn’t really appeal to me, this one does though.

longlivethesheep

I was intrigued by cruel seas when I first saw it, although it’s been hard for me to ever contemplate dipping below 28mm for anything!! It never pulled me in enough though, however as a massive fan of sailing ships this may well have more of a chance (despite the tiny scale).

limburger

I wonder how this will compare to Oak&Iron when it is released.
The ships do look very fragile though.
I can see why Firelock chose to not model the rigging on their models.

marcuslamb

Oooh. I’d thought about picking up cruel seas but I’m much more interested in an age of sail version. Will definitely be keeping an eye on this one

amachan

This looks like an amazing game.

torros

Looks interesting

gazky

This is amazing. I really like the look of this. I am impressed with the detailed look of the ships.

gimli2006

Oh that is a wonderful sight. I have the ships already, all waiting for a modern set of rules for them. This seems to be it, can’t wait.

superfurrymaniac

Interesting.
I do love the look of sailing ships.

tinnedfruit

Looks really interesting.

ntrabbit

Looks like they’ve done a much better job of picking a scale to suit the style of historical combat here than Warlord did with Cruel Seas, which at 28mm is just too big for 20th century MTB warfare. Looking forward to seeing how Captain Pellew and the Indefatigable go in these rules.

avernos

Cruel Seas isn’t 28mm, it’s 1:300

torros

Quite a few people playing it in 1/600 for cost reasons, especially when it comes to the larger ships

ntrabbit

Right, sorry, crossed my argument in my own head, I think Cruel Seas is too big a scale in the same way that 28mm is too big a scale for mass battle games, the GW disease that favours display level detail over playability. Given the ship types, weapon types, and engagement ranges, I think 1/600 or 1/750 are better options for gameplay and immersion.

Age of Sail is an entirely different story, and the scale here looks to be well chosen.

avernos

that makes sense

torros

Be interesting to see the scale as 1/300 if Warlord don’t make there own it could be costly. Langton miniatures who produce probably the best ships out there cost about £50 a model. Like I mentioned about Cruel Seas I could see people maybe reducing this to 1/1200 although maybe Warlord have done a deal with Minarons for there 1/600 models

avernos

I assume they’ll make their own, they have the capacity for it so I can’t imagine they’ll pay someone else when they can keep it all in house.

torros

They did outsource for some of Blood Red Skies

avernos

didn’t know that, who is making their planes?

torros

A lot of the bombers were from Zvezda weren’t they?

dodgyfarmer

Black Sea’s looks like it will be lots of fun without getting over complicated. Will want to try this one out for sure. I hope the ships look as good as these but easily assembled and painted by fumble-fingers such as myself. A pre-paint option would be even better.

Warlord has sure been creative and productive over the last year or so. It’s always a kick seeing what is coming next.

eldritch247

Looks awesome! With Cruel Seas I was hoping they’d do more naval games =) Really looking forward to this one

theoneaeon

Looks like a game to watch out for. I will follow with interest

grodd1016

Oh man, that looks cool I’ll have to keep an aye on it.

bigbadbazz

Looks amazing

72draco

Awesome, been playing age of sail naval games since AH’s Wooden Ships and Iron Men. This could replace GWs Trafalgar for me. As a side note, it looks like Warlord has picked up Games Workshop Historical banner, which is fine by me.

golonka

Cool and not overly complicated mechanism regarding the wind, I like that. Also, such beautiful ships.

kadmon

This looks interesting

shaunbag

Looks interesting

hobbyhoo

I love a good pirate game!

thedace

When playing Cruel Seas recently I thought “wouldn’t this be great with Sail ships” Voila 🙂

Row, row, row your boat

to get to your big ship!

goban

So Cruel Seas was just to wet my apatite, dip my toe in the water. Black seas is where the action is, just wait until the 3 tier ships of the line appear over the horizon. Until then, the sun is under the yardarm and it is time to splice the main brace.

nogbadthebad

Yo ho yo ho i’d Like to win a copy for me!

dafthelmet85

Love the look of this.

dstinct

Cool. I’ve been hoping to expand my wargaming beyond the standard sci-fi and fantasy.

wardm89

If it’s anything like their Cruel Seas game I cant wait for it!

benkku

That one looks great.

fanis

Best naval period in terms of beauty of the ships. I suck at rigging of course! lol Wish them every success with it; the game as described sounds fun.

lordsanes

Damn I love age of sail. I’m getting this bad boy when its out

laughingboy

This looked great and I will certainly be getting involved.

macadams00

Interested to see how this game develops.

battlehawk

Looks good.

cfen031

Looks very interesting

jabbaa

Excellent news, I will be keeping my eyes peeled for more news on this as launch approaches. How big are the mini’s to be? 1:1200 or same as cruel seas? Will there be ships of the line or mainly smaller? Regardless, put me down for a Jack Aubrey starter set right now!

benduncan96

AAAAARRRR I think I’ll try this one 😀

armourygames

Amazing looking ships

jemmy

That´s one to follow. Need to check out on OTT whether it is worth it. But the issue of a possibly very big table to play on is a serious one. Maybe on a small table it just doesn´t look right. – Btw, did I recognise the HMS Victory as one of the ships on the table? Kiss me, Hardy. This was bit earlier, I think. So no Hardy. What a pity.

s69k

Love playing cruel seas with my son’s 12& 17 and i look forward to playing black seas with them too. Good family time ?

phaidknott

Hmmm anyone got a notion as to what scale these ships are going to be (they look bigger than the Langton ones)?

zorg

fabulous looking game an ships.

nehpets

Looks like it could be simple and fun, but hard to master. I’m curious how those sails and ropes attach with the kits, it looks like fiddly work.

spea6712

defo want to play this one

necron099

Great news. Looks like a fun yet still historical look at this period.

huscarle

Something I have wanted to try for a long time. now a complete game in a box looks like an easy in

bennu

This looks fun. Interesting that the proximity to the wind dictates who goes first. Beautiful ships. Wonder which one I’ll prefer this or Oak and Iron. Though they sound to be very different games.

jmrecoil

Interesting game, going to have to keep an eye on its development.

warhammergrimace

I’m not that big on Naval combat games but I do like the look of this game, though I think I may have to convert the ships and play Pirates of the Caribbean lol

tomrr

Interesting game – could go well with Napoleonic warfare games.. um landing troops…

paperwarrior

The model ships look amazing.

mudman82

Cool Game

comoran

The game looks good

zwiebel

Will definitely check this out!

chosenman44

I want, I want, I want. Time to release the inner Nelson. Warlord do it again.

darkdanegan

Can never have too many pirates. The movement mechanics looks clever.

lordofuzkulak

Not that interested in the time period for this, but if they get the rules working right it’d be nice to see them do a fantasy version. 😉

mstill

Do you know, they’ve read my mind. I’m just getting into Black Powder and wanted a set of rules for fighting sail !
Can’t wait to get my hands on a set.

stuart20

Well there is my next project!

sigmundr

Seems like a very nice middle ground between the scales of Firelocke’s two games. The detail level on those ships is nice. Definetly going to check this one out

markeejay

Ooh that looks nice!aaaaaarrrrrrggghhh!

buggeroff

Never got into Cruel Seas. This looks really good, love to give this a go get me Hornblower on!!!

irondragon6

Yes, yes, yes, please. Wooden ships and iron men with cruel seas rules format, yes!

innes

Very nice looking ships. What scale is it?

ijontichy

Despite all its problems, I really likr Cruel Seas! Putting it in the Age of Sail seems like a brilliant idea!
Cheers!

dags

Definitely one for watch list – the wish to watch Hornblower is fighting the desire to watch black sails

nacnac

So looking forward to that one! Surcouf will sail again!

silverskates

I’m definitely watching out for this one.

antiphony

Black Seas: going on the Christmas list.
I’m just a sucker for sailing games.

t1ckl35

Looks very cool and I like the fact they are keeping parts quite simple. If need be people can add complexity as required.

Looking at scale based on the merchant ship moving about 3″ and it looking a little shorter.
Taking a standard French frigate size of about 41 to 43 meter length gives something like 60 to 70mm, a little shy of 3″. This would therefore be around 1:600 scale
Note this could well be wrong ?

darkspi

like the premise I enjoy playing the cruel sea game

falerox

Wow! Warlord keeps raising the bar! I love cruel seas and Blood Red Skies, This looks like it’s going to be awesome!

astralwraith

Nice looking miniatures, like the setting it’ll be one I’m looking out ofr

theamazingmrg

Age of Sail has always intertested me more than more modern stuff. This looks fancy!

necrothrall

Black Seas sounds amazing

*starts humming the theme tune to Black Sails*

slugherder

I presume it will be out on September 19.

skodamarine

A naval pirate game – what’s not to like!
The wind direction dictating activation order seems like a nice mechanic – not too complicated but clever.

while

Cool! Would have liked to hear more about the minis! Interested to see how it compares to Oak and Iron!

deadhead

tat looks like a great game

nsogre

Looks like it might be fun

psyntologist

Love the idea and if the demo/development models are anything to go on, this will be beautiful.

big-al

Looking forward to this! Loving Cruel Seas at the moment and this has grabbed my interest, too.

neilr260979

Love age of sail games. It will be nice to see one that sounds a lot simpler than Games workshops Trafalgar game

machinegod

Love the Age of Sails…hope this game runs more smoothly than Sails of Glory!!!

hairybrains

nice looking ships, really tempted by these age of sail games

gorlestondoug

I have been thinking about getting into age of sail wargaming for some time but it seems a bit pricey, hopefully warlord will make this genre a bit more affordable to get into. I will give it a go and if i like it maybe invest in some Langton Miniatures

wilco92

love the look of the rigging on the man o war

sheepman

This looked really good.

evilspock

Didn’t know this was in the pipeline. Haven’t done age of sail in forever.

somegeezer

This is really what I think a naval wargame should be. I’ve not jumped on Cruel Seas but this I’ll watch closely.

Yeaargh!

redsarge

Hmm… wouldn’t that be super neat to have a Gate of Antares version? Righto ut of left field, Sci-Fi naval combat.

badgobo

Love the fact that the winds as a real effect in the game.

vaguerant

These are very cool little pieces.

bluehealer

One to play whilst drinking rum!

marktarver

Will be interesting to see this up against Oak and Iron from Firelock as they look and feel a bit similar.

tacticalgenius

I know i wont’ win, won’t matter, Warlord means i’ll get it. Many rule sets….too many. I would say they should slow down but like that they are still putting out stuff at a good pace. The only issue is I have blood and Plunder and as much as this looks good, may go with their Heart and Steel just because it ties in with the miniatures i have. If warlord has a miniature pirate game, i.e. bolt action buccaneers, then i may switch over but those other minis’ are very nice.

baranora

Amazing news

voyager

The game looks very interesting. I can’t wait to see it released!

ahren78

Those ships look great.

keglas

Love to hear about a new game on the age of sail. I’ll definitely keep an eye on it!

knighttyme

I have been looking for a set of rules, and the models to go with them, for table top War of 1812 and pirate ships for a while. This could be it if the right models are available early on.

otakugirl

The game looks cool

ugleb

That mechanic for wind determining initiative sounds pretty cool. Positioning will be so important!

tchrin

oooh this looks very intriguing. I’ve always wanted to get into a naval combat game, and this might just tick all the boxes. Will definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

stealth7

I love Cruel Seas, and will be looking forward to this just as much. I hop they adopt some of the things that made the old Pocketmodels game Pirates of the Carribean game so much fun, like being able to land and pick up treasure tokens, mini forts on land, crew tokens, and a good variety of ships. Don’t make these so big that storage becomes a pain in the arse! Oh, and learn from CS and proof the rules before distribution, don’t rush it!!

stealth7

I would love it if they did this in a scale appropriate for a 3×3 table. With so many game stores shrinking in size, it’s getting difficult to find ones that have 6×4 tables available. Plus, then you can fit more ships on a 3×3 mat, and storage is easier.

bfenix

I was a huge fan of Pirates of the Spanish Main, so this sort of game and theme is right up my alley. Really looking forward to it!

redvers

Ooo, this looks interesting. Have to wait and see how this one develops.

tonytt

This looks awesome. Between this and Cruel Seas I wonder how far we are from a modern sea combat game. Something I’ve always wanted to see.

chris1944

ok i’m Sold, when do I order! After Cruel Seas and Blood Red Skies, Warlord are doing a remarkable job of developing some really fine games

redbread25

This looks amazing.

brucelea

Who doesn’t like this!?
Sounds like a lot of fun , the galleon looks a lot like HMS Victory and the miniatures look great, I don’t fancy all of the fiddly rigging though.
I’d have to have a pirate ship called the Black Pig though ?

commissarsanguine

Looks great fun.

osbad

I love Cruel Seas. This “Black Powder” period game looks even better!

burnseye

This looks good
and my wife likes pirate things so maybe i can sneak this into the house, without having to explain too much why i’ve bought even more minis.

woodrowimpy

Nice very nice.

phoenixman

Arrgh want this bad… ?

bain1701

Awesome looking game. My girls have just recently developed a love for boats all of a sudden… (Though it could that their mum recently introduced them to Pirates of the caribbean and a certain Mr Depp…) But still, I can maybe get them to play a Wargame without them even realising it!!!! 🙂

dugthefug1644

I know friends who have invested heavily in the Oak and Iron kickstarter, but I think with this being set later and if the rules are good enough, I imagine a lot of people will still find the money and time to invest in this tall ships wargame as well.

noyjatat

Had a demo at my local store and really enjoyed this, now just to decide which fleet to go for.

kjelken

Yaaaaarrrrrrrrr!

felfeni

Awesome job

goatberger

I’m enjoying Cruel Seas. Looking forward to trying this as well.

bristolpirate

As a big Man O’ War fan, really, really looking forward to Black Seas. Alongside Oak and Iron, great times.

longshotte

Looking forward to this game coming out! I love the sailing games. I want to see how it compares to Sails of Glory.

sternpb

Already have my tricorn, now just need me some warships! Beatifull thing, especially wind mechanic.

radegast6

loos like good fun and easy to play with kids.

comoran

Great detail!

stokeman

Been waiting for an age of sail game without too much complexity and nice plastic minis! Really excited for this one!

hargarpad

They are the best!
