Andrew Girdwood Of Geek NatiVE Introduces Runelords

Drama at the airport meant that the Runelords board game didn’t make it to UKGE for the start of the preview. There must have been a concern whether there would be anything to show of the game based of the David Farland novels for any of the show at all.

Fortunately, the board game is now in the building at UKGE, along with the impressive Tabletop Simulator version of it that’ll be shown to the public alongside the Kickstarter planned for later this year.

It was. The Amsterdam airport transportation went on strike that afternoon. Glad I could be there to support the cause LOL

More news coming soon! The TTS will be live soon as well. A bite-sized, 2-player demo so you can experience the deck building/resource management engine; building an army then battling it out on the battlefield with a friend. There will be a single storybook available as well so you can see how legacy play works 🙂 Sign up for the mailing list on the site you are interested!

Artwork has something for everyone.

Yea this was important. I hope it accomplishes this. A light take on dark fantasy 🙂

I stopped after 2nd novel, but I can see how the key magic concept could make for a very interesting game. Look forward to seeing more.

I must say, book three and four are epic… highly recommend pushing through book two if there were elements that turned you off. The villain’s ending is just great.

As for Farland’s magic system, I couldn’t agree more. It was just begging for a game. Can’t believe it hadn’t happened sooner. One of the resources you gather in the game is Labor. This is then used to tap the blood metal mines for forcibles to take endowments from your vassals. In short, leveling your runelord is directly tied to the cards you recruit and how you manage your resources which is a nice change of pace to some of the more traditional, combat-centric character advancement.

I hope you like the game!
