I picked up the Vallejo Air Metallics set to add to my Vallejo Special Effects set, bust out the airbrush and went at it.

The aim here is a simple punchy paint scheme that looks effective but won’t take me months to get done. I am experimenting with chipping medium to deliver the illusion of detail and effort while learning to use my airbrush for more than just priming. By liberally spraying areas in other colours. Baby steps!

Step 2, airbrushing with the other 'Rust' that comes in the same set but has a different catalogue number - because that isn't at all confusing.Step 2, airbrushing with the other 'Rust' that comes in the same set but has a different catalogue number - because that isn't at all confusing.
Going to the Vallejo special effects set, another two rusty effect paints were applied watered down a bit by brush. I then covered this in chipping medium through the airbrush.Going to the Vallejo special effects set, another two rusty effect paints were applied watered down a bit by brush. I forgot to take a picture of the bottles here, but I applied chipping medium through the airbush then applied the basecoat of Medium Gunship Grey. I wasn't worried about 100% coverage because I want this is to look weathered and beat up at the end.I forgot to take a picture of the bottles here, but I applied chipping medium through the airbush then applied the basecoat of Medium Gunship Grey. This is actually the same colour grey as in the last image, but under different light and with the contrasting Jade Green applied by brush. This is actually the same colour grey as in the last image, but under different light and with the contrasting Jade Green applied by brush.
I then took my largest air brush cleaning tool, dunked it in water and started scrubbing back! At this point I realised I never put any steel colours into the layering so will be tweaking that as we go into full production.I then took my largest air brush cleaning tool, dunked it in water and started scrubbing back!
