Cheap Dragons (and other analog adventures)
Cheap Backgrounds (and/or GM Screens)
Inspired by the many well composed pictures of miniatures that lack bags of chips, shelves of books, and stray elbows in the background, Frugalmax and the intrepid crew of the Cheap Dragon Show have turned an episode over to our fine art correspondent, Mossy Bob, to walk us through the background painting process. Hope you enjoy it!
Here’s a preview of the final result in action:
And Episode 9, a high-speed journey through the painting process with the usual asides:
And then, if you’re really into following along with painting (or just bored), here’s Supplementary Episode 9-A, in which we see the background painting come together in real time (be warned, it’s almost an hour of your life you’ll never get back):

Great show! The highest production budget has been continued in this episode. The high quality is appreciated by us the audience as it shows that we too have hope of achieving greatness (or atleast the passing facsimile of effort if we can get off our collective butt). Bravo to all the staff!
Thanks, @horati0nosebl0wer! Greatness is in the eye of the beholder! And I don’t meant that weird floaty guy from D&D- though was there ever an adventure module where you had to go and get something literally out of one of those eyes? If not that’s a missed opportunity… Anyway- what was I talking about? Oh yeah, facsimiles of effort is what we’re all about! Thank you again for your continued support and/or tolerance of our self-indulgence! Cheers!
talk about channeling your inner Bob Ross.
You channeld so hard it manifested itself 😀
Hi @limburger ! Yes, at the Cheap Dragon Show we don’t “channel” so much as “open the flood gates with reckless abandon.” Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed it!
Congratulations on getting the gold button for all the work @frugalmax 👍
Thanks, @zorg! The write-up is very nice, I really appreciate it. We shall wear our Golden Button with pride! Is there something I should do to put the Golden Button on the project homepage or thumbnail or do some folks just choose to change their project title image to feature the button image? Thanks again!
