Is this something the person who commissioned it 3s printed?
@gorram – no, they purchased the 3D prints from a supplier. Of the big three commissions I’ve done in the past year, at least 1/3 of the models are 3D printed now, maybe even more. It’s crazy how good the printing is, and most of the are *just different* enough to be not-GW. At least here in Canada, GW (out of Memphis), is so often out of stock that this is what people do now, it appears. These are all serious tournament gamers. Base size and general height of the model fits? “Legal”. I find it an interesting trend, although I have little interest in 3D prints myself – I like a good kit bash. 😂👍
@grantinvanman yeah, the quality has come on leaps and bounds. I think the tournament rules are much the same as for conversions – must be easily identifiable to your opponent.
The Battletech I sent you were 3d prints – I couldn’t get Catalyst stuff in time cos their distribution here is so crap.
@gorram – I literally could not tell! If you hadn’t said anything, I would not have known. If you ever need Catalyst, hit me up – the local shop that I usually go to has AISLES of Battletech, right down to the novels! Was there today for paints, couldn’t believe how much they had. Big BT scene at that shop.
With that much open space and flat paneling the airbrush is indeed your friend. I look forward to the finished work and hope it doesn’t burn you out for your own work.
Oh yeah, this is airbrush work for sure, my kind of project. And I ordered extra fine Gundam panel line markers to make that part a bit easier. No burnout, I’m adding a second desk for building, and cleaned my all-purpose today, so I could rotate tasks and projects. Even picked up a second wet palette just to keep projects apart.
