OBS basics and video creation
Five years later
So after 287 episodes of the Hobby Hangout and various other videos I can say: most of what I’ve written in this project blog is still valid.
On the side of YouTube (and other video platforms) there have been some changes.
Auto translations, AI dubbing and an increase in “slop content” [Not to be confused with slap chop and forcefully removed body parts] really makes it hard to see ‘the good stuff’ so I feel for anyone who’s trying to make money with videos.
Since I’ve been doing this just for fun I’m in the comforting position not only to publish my stuff on YouTube but anywhere I want. And that’s what I’ve been doing for some time now. I’m using PeerTube. Basically it is an open source alternative to YouTube with multiple servers spread around the globe. If memory server PeerTube is made by Framasoft and is from France. No big money tech bros involved.
Like Mastodon, PixelFed and Friendica it’s a decentralised network and you have to pick “your” server. And this is where it’s currently a bit of a miss for me. You see, the Instance I used so far is not really good at connecting with the rest of the Fediverse and had very tight storage restrictions. Only now am I able to put up more videos since I moved to a different instance yesterday.
Hopefully from there on out I’ll be able to generate more views than before.
If you have any questions about PeerTube (or the Fediverse) feel free to hit me up with questions.
Until next time!
