Admirals Diving Into Their Games

With a bit of rules chatter out of the way we're getting stuck into some proper games now as folks learn about the basic mechanics of their fleet with an introductory scenario.

We'll be chatting with some of the folks we caught up with yesterday and then will find out how their first games went!

Anyone know how long the average game lasts?

bitrider

Depends on who plays, but not longer than 12 parsecs. 🙂

wendren

No that’s the Kettle run Justin has to do.

bhrian

I played at Essen for about an hour – but I don’t think that’s the average game time, it was a slaugther

bust1985

The more I see it the more I want it lol

wesadie1969

Hard to tell game length from you tube videos due to parts being edited out but I’d say 1.5 hours for a 1000 points best guess.

foyble

About 90 minutes sounds good. It’s soon over if your getting whooped but enough to get a few games in

wesadie1969

I’ve noticed it’s a very killy game. Especially with secondary detonations from dying ships.

ducimax

Quite like that… and if you think about the average crew number of a UCM ship, it becomes a really sad story.

…nowhere near the bodycount of an average Gundam series, mind you…

wesadie1969

True. Gundam is brutal.

somegeezer

“secondary detonations from dying ships”

That needs to be on the game packaging somewhere. I really like the sound of this game.

donimator

Those mats look great. No worries about how they show up on camera or photos, even the winter-themed. Looks like it will be a great weekend.

owlet

Ohhh i love it when ships explode and cause a chain reaction 😀

vadersfist

Just getting my comment in…..

seajay

I’ve played a few games so far but really been interested to see this weekends boot camp. Thanks guys!

badula

there should be a prize for the best chain reaction of the weekend!^^

biggrim

That’s an awesome idea!

revallan778

Best chain reaction will be won by whoever gets a cascade reaction on that massive station of Warren’s during the Pearl Harbor game they’re planning. I can’t imagine what that explosion would look like IRL.

daemonish

Looks soooo good!!!

panzertanker64

Very good view of the matts , they look great .

spacewolflord

All must understand the rules of engagement to bend them to your will.

sunabe

This make me want to play too

nakul

Not envious at all :p

laughingboy

Table shots look great, the mats work a treat.

lawnor

Those mats really do make for some beautiful tables

specter

Agreed Deep Cut does it right!

lorcannagle

Love the guy on the right in the big picture – he’s deep in thought!

mulletsteve

if you mean the guy in the grey Christmas jumper, that’s me and I think I was trying to remember a rule we’d just been told

lorcannagle

Yeah, it’s a fantastic expression. Really hard to capture that sort of moment in a photograph.

uezguersmaster

I know that feeling. I must be looking that way a lot. 🙂

biggrim

This looks like a cracker of a weekend!

clash957

Is it me of do the bodies of water on the mats match up with other mats?

wizardv12222

Looks like one epic battle across an entire planet… they should house rule some map transitioning.

sayntofsynners

I Love the smell of armchair Admirals in the morning

wendren

no they’ve been in the pub all night and are being fed a gamers diet, you probably wouldn’t

beetle

Makes pew pew and zoom noises

stingrayp226

How many UCM players are there? Seems like every battle has a UCM fleet in it and some are UCM vs UCM…

soulflayer

Saw a Scourge player. ^_^ Good Luck Tomorrow man!

glitchingout

The time we’ve all been waiting for!!!

tookeywhy

still can’t believe that there is only one scourge player! Take him down UCM guys!

mulletsteve

there was two actually and Justin when he left the banana republic fleet alone

lyraeus

What rules chatter! Tell me more!

draccan

bon chance mon admirals

rgreenparadox

Seems like everyone is getting right to games. Those Ice mats look incredible in photos, and I am betting they look even better in person. too cool.

paragon

Great looking boards!

mattpbrown

I’m regretting not jumping on the kickstarter now! I’m really interested to see how this links up with Dropzone!

doomzombie

Look`s like everybodies starting to have a good time, and good luck to the “Ladies”.

rondominas

definitely interested in checking this game out

ozkillswitch

Still out on this with so little time to put to another system…

specter

Was anyone recording statistics for all the games like ships fielded or win/loses for factions?

uezguersmaster

Statistics would be interesting indeed.

decoys84

Looks like heaps of fun!

panouil

good luck commander

mage

Seems like there’s a nice buzz going on around BoW HQ

astralwraith

Great looking fleets & love how the mats look

cmerisalo

10/10 for radness

tek72797

I wanna play, I wanna play, I wanna play

redsarge

Cloudy with a chance of bombardment! Go UCM go!

fireblarney

And it begins…

inquisitorfelix

Roll sixes guys!

abraxus04

The boards look really nice

mulletsteve

getting into it and playing the game is the best way of learning the rules as Dave says and he’s right in my opinion.

lupa15

The mats definitely make the game.

alorath

Talk about chain reactions! I friend of mine was in a game of BFG when a bomber survived to launch an attack on the central Imperial battleship. The chain reaction of explosions wiped out over a thousand points of Imperial ships! The guys playing couldn’t believe the rolls on both sides and couldn’t believe the carnage!!!
Chain Reaction GOOOD!!!!

jester

ET go home!

eddator227

the game is timed for players, or some given number of rounds/turns?
