Are these buffs and potions given by the overlord/quest or can you get these by achieving something?
Think I’m going to have to try and port my old warhammer quest characters into dungeon saga.
Once more, down into the dungeons, be wary of roaming mammoths.
It’s okay, you only see them in areas where they can be lowered in through the roof.
Or maybe some Mammothmen? 😀
It is a great fun Dungeon Saga weekend. Well done all.
Seriously great set of videos on Dungeon Saga! Hope they are pretty close to release
Wait did justin got some potions of Paronamix?
Dungeon crawling is like black, it never get’s out of fashion 🙂
Great game, I am really happy to have backed this in the Kickstarter.
Really enjoying this Dungeon Saga weekend
Makes me wanna try and find my old warhammer Quest game
Really can’t wait to see more. Dungeon crawling isn’t really my thing but I’ll have to give this a go, and I hope BoW do go ahead with filming their dungeon crawling adventures, it’s always something I found lacking with BoW is that you never film things like battle reports.
You always need to remember you win by completing the mission not by exploring as much as you can of the dungeon. Keep focused on the main goal shiny objects don’t benefit you if your dead.
Maybe a Dungeon Crawling Bootcamp next year?
That would be something I’d go for.
Dungeon Saga Weekend has been my favourite themed weekend on BoW so far.
excellent set of games
I’m currently painting up all sorts of old D&D monsters ready to add to this when it arrives :
So how did your character get more powerful and more equipment between levels? Is it defined by the module? By the level of the dungeon you are on? Do you earn XP? Was the loot a reward for completeing the level?
Most importantly of all, why is it every time Justin says barbarian it sounds like hes saying Bavarian?
Has Warren’s “Relentless” enthusiasm started to wear off yet? No chance!
Please make a Dungeon crawler series either on this game or using the adventurers companion, this is taking me back to what got me into the hobby in the first place, good job guys
Great themed weekend!
First time I’m watching all the videos (helps that I’m not working this weekend).
As far as a themed weekend go sometimes you like them other times they’re just not your cup of tea. However, for me when the enjoyment had in the making jumps out of the screen like it has for Dungeon Saga you would be hard pressed to find any true gamer not getting excited too.
A classic genre offering a gateway experience to the broader hobby, I’ve been impressed by what mantic have delivered especially over the last couple of years. Keep cracking the whip Mr Renton as I for one am enjoying the worlds your allowing us to explore. As to you guys at Beast of War well you have every dreamers dream job and often look like the proverbial cat thats got the cream! Importantly your enthusiasm, opinion and banter help shift product which is a very good attribute to have.
This themed weekend is epic, had to joint BOW in order ot have access to the backstage in order to see it all.
Each piece I see makes me want the game more and more, and I am looking forward to this becoming a regular family game.
loveing this cant wait to play this when my kickstarter arrives
That troll was nasty – you guys should just be glad you didn’t have to face the dragon ;p
Another great video could watch these all day
Not opening that second door was a big mistake
The other small one? Yeah, if the barbarian had gone through there and opened a second front it would have been better than wasting all that time on the big door.
Great game 😀 . I have a mate at my club who is waiting for his KS pledge to arrive, so in the near future my club shall ring out with the sounds of furious dungeon delving.
Having that Def 4 door as ( basically ) a red herring, is just plain nasty ( but fun ) if the adventurers get sucked in to trying to open it like warren did.
All in all, a brilliant weekend dungeon delving viewing, well done to warren and Justin in their adventures and I await more quests eagerly 😀 .
bad luck guys
It seems very hard to defeat the overlord. Maybe it will take some games to get the synergy of all the characters. Or some praying to the dice god…
I said in an earlier video it would go on my Christmas list, question now is can I wait to Christmas to get my hands on it!!!!!
Excellent video ! 🙂
This weekend of Dungeon Saga have made me long for it even more.
Anybody know if the heroes can die in the advanced version (adventurers companion). Think any type of dungeon crawler needs that threat of losing your character you have built up over a couple of games.
Can’t wait to play a game
I thought they say at several points in these videos that the Overlord can do a free raise dead each turn, in addition to his commands?
If so, this guy keeps forgetting to do that.
This game looks so great, and the heroes are under a lot of pressure, cant wait to get this
I might have missed it but is there a way of building characters up.
Great coverage guys
Those rules are covered in the compendium, though the core game does have levelling its all automated and listed in the quest guide.
I’ve been painting all morning and watching all the videos and its just been the best day… its been a ….”Mammoth” of a day… ha ha…. really enjoying watching you guys run through the dungeon.
Tough game!!
Somebody should release a dungeon mammoth miniature.
It’s basically just a mammoth on a flagstone base.
You have to build the dungeon around it.
Wow that was so close & I can see where the tip would be all so good to use. But it is nice to know that bosses & sub-bosses take 1 point of damage per turn & corrode would also help if the wizard has a chance to cast on the troll. Well played guys & the best bat rep.
Each hero can do one wound per turn – potential maximum of 4 wounds from the whole dungeon party per full round. However…the elf’s feat gives her 3 *separate* attacks, so she could cause up to 3 wounds in her turn.
Nothing better than seeing the game played to get really enthused about it. And you guys play with all the enthusiasm of proper gamers. Great weekend of posts.
keep em comin!
love the videos chaps very entertaining
I like how the game length is determined but the number of cards the overlord has in his/hers deck. The game play is really fun and interactive. Very well done.
Another good episode! Can’t wait to see more.
Great stuff. In light of Justin’s mammoth fancying shenanigans, might I suggest, for a little light reading, the excellent Thrud the Barbarian comic. There is some superlative comedy mammoth action, well worth a read.
Why can’t I view the video? I get an error message saying “The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.”
this weekend has been full of great videos. looking forward to the game
Nice game again boys, hard one that troll
Another very well done weekend. This one is starting to hit my radar as a possible purchase.
wow those trolls are strong!!!
loved the battle report im a major mantic fan now.
give me a mantic shirt 😛
I really like how you pulled these videos together. It looks like a great game to play with my family. Easy enough to learn and get started quickly.
Definitely best weekend on BOW! Misised this as youngling.
Quite nice, would be cool to see more!
Good job on an awesome weekend of Dungeon sage
Really enjoyed this! The piece that intrigues me is the the game play for the Dark Overlord ( what I have been calling him) I like that he is playing. As a DM for D&D I miss playing characters….granted I do get to play the monsters. But the monsters in Dungeon Saga get cards, feats and powers 😀 Muahhhahahaha lol
That’s one though door.
It was really a wall with a door painted on it.
So you’re saying the Necromancer is actually a cartoon coyote?
;p
Thank you for the BS video! I love the extra content! Great demo guys. I love the excitement!
Get better and better, thus Dungeon Saga weekend has been great. Really fin to watch.
Those big doors need to take incremental damage. Sorry but having to do four hits in one shot is silly
Uuuu a nice troll. It was a fun weekend. Thanks guys! 🙂
Just pulled my copy of hero quest out of the attic and am going to try to play tonight. Might keep me going til I can buy dungeon saga!
That’s certainly one nasty troll. Compared to Descent where the overlord is set up to lose in 80+% of the encounters, seeing the evil dude win twice in real play-troughs in DS is a welcome surprise to me (I always end up playing the bad guy).
I was really expecting this to be unbalanced/D&D light with the necromancer being the dude shuffling monsters around and reading fluff, not really bothering to try and win it.
Yes, now wait for the hue and cry about how the game is “unbalanced” and the heroes can’t win… 😉
Really enjoyed the coverage and the game looks like a good laugh, can’t wait till copies are available
Great Game!
another great video
This weekend has been awesome. Great job guys.
I love the look of this game. it reminds me of many happy games of dungeon quest back when gw made games. the furniture really makes a big difference, if its sold separately they are onto a winner. God bless you Ronnie.
Thanks for the weekend team , I really enjoyed it. Cheers (Can’t wait for some of the later stuff the orcs and demons look fabulous)
Have to say this was a great weekend on BOW. Really looking forward to getting my hands on this game. Been having a blast playing Heroquest with my 8 and 10 year olds so this should go down a treat. Only question I have is are Mantic going to do something like this in scifi? For some reason Space Crusade comes to mind 😉
Looking great, takes me back to adv hero quest
Great vid, its getting better and better
I’m wondering if Warren is missing the dice rolling skills of Mr James M. Hewitt. I really am looking forward to getting this game now after watching these videos much much more than I was already
With the benefit of hindsight, locking the elf down was a tactical blunder.
Watching Justin’s tactics I think he’d make a good Overlord player.
Game looks great, I can’t wait. Love the videos guys.
Watched all of the videos so far this weekend. The learning curve on this looks steep but fun. I love Warren’s views on expanding, but all of his ideas are about improving the wizard. Can’t wait to give this a go and pull out Warhammwe quest from the basement!
Great game. Check the white dice. They look loaded 🙂
Justin and Warren need to get the heroes working better by complimenting their skills better. Dwarf tanks and ties up the tough monsters. Barbarian follows up for kill whilst wizard either debuffs first or opens break ward doors as they are certain to be opened in 1 or 2 turns. Elf needs to exploit gaps for treasure hunting or use her great to clear the weak minions. Come on Heroes we need you!
I love dungeon crawlers! Looks so much fun! I’m glad it was rainy here so I could watch the whole weekend haha!
Sounds like there’s already so much scope for expanding – characters have levels so we know there will be character advancement.
this is gonna be fun! Really like the colored minis, i think i’ll be able to focus my painting on one type of minis per month and it will still look good.
Very excited to see more videos of the game in action. Best BOW in ages 🙂 Thanks guys
Another great video, and now I’ve had to pre-order another copy for my brother’s kids as well. Thanks guys 😉
reminds me of old D&D games where you would kick in the door and rush in
Got into the hobby via Advanced HQ and only ran my first WHQ campaign in July but the guys loved it and can’t wait to give DS a go.
Well done BoW!
this big bad troll is awesome 🙂
i think my hero will get big trouble with him.
cu
caleum
Down, down, deeper and down…… Ohh yes time for some crawling! Great reports guys
Good stuff guys, really enjoyed watching the adventure unfold!
Great adventure again. Guys you did what you could. Damned Necromancer.
Looking at the overlords monster stats card (in the journey from the west video) the troll can take more than 1 wound per combat its just every time its hit it rolls a d6 on 5-6 it lessens the number of wounds taken by 1 and at the end of every turn it rolls a d6 on 5-6 it regenerates a wound …. makes it tough but beatable.
Awesome series!!!
now that was really tough :o)
Are you sure you got the rules on the troll correct???
The archer didn’t move for so long it was like playing with 3 characters. Should’ve busted both doors and had a go instead of worrying about 1 skeleton coming to life. Just my opinion though 🙂
The game keeps getting better and better.
Got held up by that troll, a pity you couldn’t open the second doorway and get round it.
So… This is backstage? Looks nice 😉
Oh yea nasty troll i simply love them 🙂
Mammoths? Mammoths! We don’t need no stinking mammoths!
Just spent a long time yelling at the screen: “Run away from the troll!”
Yup. That’s it. Totally crazy for this now. Just have to wait. So glad I backed this.
Really enjoying this series. It’s strangely compelling viewing.
This game looks like a lot of fun!
Great game. You are right it takes me right back to opening my first D&D set. Has taken me three days to work out that the characters are using their feat not their feet.
What great fun – did not think I would enjoy watching someone else playing a dungeon crawler but this was perfect. Thanks!
I WHANT !!!!!!!!!!!!
The Hero Quest box in the background looks so happy.
“Ah-ha, my legacy endures.”
🙂
BTW – get a ****ing dicetray to roll in that keeps the rolls on camera!
Damn Troll!!!
Very nice. That looks like a lot of fun. I’m glad to see that it is no cake walk for the adventurers.
Justin looked a little less stressed this time. lol
Looking like a great game.
Thank you for doing these videos, your enthusiasm in these games has convinced me to pick this up when it gets released.
I could see from early on that you were going to get bottle-necked a bit if you didn’t open that small door. I think I would have tried to open both of them at the same time and kind of ignore the piles of bones, because you will get a free chance to kill it before it does anything anyway.
Might be if the dwarf and the barbarian(with rippling muscles) should have tag teamed the big door. Always nice hindsight 🙂
more mistakes… Bosses are grey, the zombie troll is just a tough cookie. The necro mancer card (used to) say on the bottom that the zombie troll takes 1 wound per hit.
Also unless they changed the rules from beta (which they very well may have) the necro draws a card at the end of his turn not the beginning. So rich was cutting these adventures short by 2 turns. 1 he ends the game when he draws the last card instead of when he can’t draw a card and 2 he’s drawing a card at the start his first turn. Okay so 1.5 turns short :p
Still good videos though.
it definitely has that old school D&D feeling when I use to play with my mate on a Sunday afternoon
Got lots to watch now. Good way to spend the last few days of summer holidays. Saga is looking good
I remember playing HeroQuest when I was a kid. Looking forward to sharing this with my friends.
Blast from the past… looks like fun.
The time aspect really seems to turn this game into the favour of the dungeon master. I like that the added this level of strategy
This looks amazing. Another great video?
Having watched all four of the adventure play throughs i think there is one thing i would change straight away and that is that i would not reveal the layout of the dungeon from the start of the game, but instead add tiles as the adventurers came within sight of a new section. This was fundamental to Heroquest and Advanced Heroquest.
Love this idea! I’m gonna try that next time I play Space Hulk with my son.
I’m not sure it would work with Space Hulk because of the blips and the tactics involved with those. You could create a specific scenario for it. For something i’m working on i was thinking of having a ‘double board’, which consists of tile pieces of the type one gets in Dungeon Saga or Space Hulk and of ‘underboards’, which are black, marked with movement squares as the tiles are and are, say, 40 x 40 squares in size. The underboards are put down first and then the tiles are placed on top of the underboards as the adventurers, or whatever they be, come across them. For a Dungeon Saga type game this means that the Overlord could put monsters ( or even ‘blips’ – representing sounds and brief glimpses for the adventurers ) down on the underboard when they come into play but before the adventures come within sight of the board section on which they are situated. I’m thinking that ‘within sight’ would be both in line of sight and, because the dungeon is dark, within so many squares of an adventurer.
Incidentally, the other reason i’m thinking of an underboard is to make it easier to put tiles together, without using a clips or jigsaw system. I’m thinking of either magnetising the underboard and tiles, or more likely, placing grooves in the underboard and slight rails around the edges of the tiles so that the tiles simply sit on and slightly in the underboard.
This game looks awesome!
Really does look like a blast
You actually had me yelling at my screen, trying to tell you what you should have done.
Really great series, guys.
Still holding off on watching these, but pure excitement is making it harder. Want to wait and experience this ourselves! How cruel! 😉
I cant wait to play.
Would love to see a series/narrative of this. especially if you all get some heads made to have a BoW customised party.
And to think….I had Hero Quest, Warhammer Quest AND Battlemasters when I was a kid. I never saw the potential then. What a shame. Oh well, live and learn I suppose….
Thank you for letting us watch, this is one game I will have to buy when it is out. Do you know the date when it will be released?
Been great to watch, and seeing gamers getting into and enjoy a game is very engaging.
I’m practically giggling with excitement. Need to know when the KS is arriving so I can clear my weekend!
I like this game better and better
All work for me this week and not much play. On the plus side I still have more vids to watch than everyone else 🙂
Nice 🙂
You guys keep getting me ever more excited about the game.Well done fellas.
I bought a backstage pass just to continue watching these videos – so glad I did!
This really looks like one of those games where the players need to “learn” the level. I used to do the same thing in PC games – first work out how to get through the level, then work out how to master it – best time or all the loot etc. Heaps of replay value in other words!
Great job once again guys! I am so excited for DS to show up now, and I cannot wait for all of the expansions that Ronnie and the guys/gals at Mantic have in store for us.
Wow, Great game. This is looking alot like Warhammer Quest, and may replace all my fantasy dungeon crawlers.
That Zombie Troll is really nice. Mantic have done a really good job with the Dungeon Saga minis.
Wizards and energy drinks don’t mix
Of all the things to win, this would be tops! Love Mantic as a company. Ronnie rocks and this new game looks awesome!!
These videos have totally sold me on Dungeon Saga.
Boy this is tough. I can´t wait to get my copy, this will be amazing.
But one thing I want to mention. The regeneration of the Troll should be ignored by fire attacks. That would be a nice addition. But of course you can always houserule stuff.
Oh man, that zombie troll is badass! I really like the dwarf revenants too.
Great video
Good to have furniture in a game. Much cooler in a dungeon than a dolls house
Wow
I do agree with Justin: you open the door at the start of your turn. That way you have the initiative on positioning your heroes. Now you just gave that initiative away.
Kicking in the adjacent small door wouldn’t have helped much. The armoured zombie and the troll could have moved so the troll was blocking both entrances to the room.
The barbarian would have needed more luck breaking down the big door.
Watching these makes me wonder if there are any super nasty cards in the Overlord deck that we haven’t seen yet….
This game looks great. Loved all the old dungeon crawling games.
That race against time makes for an interesting added challenge. From what I recall of Heroquest and warhammer quest the main challenge was staying alive. It appears heroes in this game have more than just that to worry about.
Can’t wait to get this and try it with my kids.
Mantic sure nailed il in reviving the old dungeon crawlers of old with news mechanics and new ways to play. I’m eager to get my hands on the box 🙂
loving dungeon saga. probably way to late to win any pries but supa tempted to buy into the crawl anyway. You’ve reignited the dungeon crawling flame that 12 year old me started.
I finally talked myself into buying this game only to discover its STILL in preorder. OMG!!!! When will it be available?
Three errors in the play that would’ve made for a significant change in the outcome:
1 – Doors only require one successful hit to open. So a 4 dice 4 armor mundane lock doesn’t need 4 successful hits to open. Only one needs to squeak through. (Rules page 21)
2 – Playing a card from the Overlord’s deck does not count as one of the Overlord’s commands. The Overlord may play a single command card in each Turn. So if the Overlord has 2 commands, he can raise two dead and play an Overlord card.
3 – (This could have made all the difference) The Zombie Troll is NOT a boss. It is a minion. Bosses have a designated boss card just like the heroes. All Overlord panel models are considered minions. Three successful hit’s on a troll is three successful wounds. The troll may attempt to regenerate a wound at the end of the round or when receiving a wound that would be fatal to it.
