Dungeon Saga: Let’s Play Journey From The East!
August 22, 2015 by dignity
We've only met two of our heroes so far and this second adventure in Dungeon Saga by Mantic Games calls on the arcane forces of the Mage (Warren) and the ranged prowess of the Elven Ranger (Justin).
A crypt lies before them and the Overlords minions are looking to overwhelm our heroes. Will they survive and join their allies or will it be too much to handle?
If you comment on this video you'll be in with a chance to win yourself a copy of Dungeon Saga which is available to pre-order AND The Adventurer's Companion.

I’m in love with this already guys!
Loving the rp!!
Although I’m not 100% sold on the little clips which hold the tiles together (more bits to lose) and think that ‘jigsaw’ tiles would have worked as well, I’m still very excited by this (although not as excited as Warren, but who could be?). I can’t wait for my KS to arrive.
I thought the same about the clips and that they should’ve had the jigsaw pattern but then I realized that the clips give you more options in how the tiles go together once you start making your own adventures.
I too can’t wait for my KS to arrive:)
Agree, the clips seem fiddly. I actually like the jigsaw tiles better since it creates a nice fit without causing unnecessary wear on the tiles. I doubt I’ll use the clips. I’m wondering if a rubber mat on the table will be a better option to keep the tiles from sliding apart.
I usually use a heavy cloth on the table, things tend not to move that way – something grippy would be even better. Warhammer Quest had a nice design where the doors had slots underneath.
Got a bit more beaten up that time.
I’d have loved to see Lloyd and Warren playing through these scenarios. I’d have loved to see them regress (even more, in Warren’s case) back into childhood.
Really good series so far – even my sons are enjoying this one….
I would have liked to see the objective to be not only opening the door, but also getting all of your characters through the door, particularly as Justin is now surrounded. Other than that this looks like a winner. Looking forward to seeing some more videos on this.
Haha Justin would suit being a female elf 😛
Hm, magic seems interesting in Dungeon Saga
well that one was a lot closer
Loving the role playing enthusiasm…
“If I cast break wind and fireball…”
“Ward Warren. It’s break ward”.
“Oh”.
The disappointment was palpable.
Yeah 🙂
I’m excited and sad at the same time, excited coz this may be the hero quest replacement my sons and I have waited for, and sad coz hero quest may not be getting anymore love:( it’s like I’ve upgraded to a younger hotter model……
I’d like to point out that no Bouncer is going to let Justin into anything wearing that shirt.
Crackin game
Was there a mistake at the 29th minute? Raise Dead was cast as the first command, but it was stated at 23:15 that Raise Dead is in addition to the commands.
I spotted that too. Think rich had an extra command that turn, so could have moved up one of the skellies in the other room.
I noticed it too, he played 3x commands and raised at the 23 minute mark. Also, the ‘Overlord’ was going easy as a training game. The skeleton on the flank moving would have been a much more ‘evil’ option as it would prevent the mage from moving back to the door. It is a training game and you really don’t want to kill the players in a training game.
C’mon. Lets see a real dungeon with loot and character progression etc.
So animated, love it.
Looks like magic seems cool in this game
Back to Santa was a great line
Yeah, I might have to steal that the next time I play D&D.
This is just brilliant, really takes me back to my youth. Back then I was completely obsessed with the Fighting Fantasy series, I am so getting this for my son, he’s going to love it.
This is totally taking back to my Childhood days and D&D that filled a fair few Summer Hols with friends.
The gme looks really cool, but i’ve got to say i dont like the look of the barbarian
Again a really fun video, but I’m looking forward to scenarios where our heroes will be exposed to greater challenges.
Just need a little bit more of work on the miniatures in my opinion to be perfect
Warren’s going to need to improve on his casting and Justin needs to practice his dice rolling, not so much hack and slash from these characters but if all them where the same as the Barbarian and dwarf it would be a boring, Looking forward to the rest
bye bye elfie, race you to the bottom!
Really like the idea of rotating the spell cards for Durations – Loving the game as a whole!
Kinda confused why the Range-finder was not consolidated onto one strip though.
The two starting quests really allow a new player to get used to each character which I think is a very cool introduction. I’m so going to buy this come pay day.
Great game, guys. 🙂 I love the furniture.
Nice idea, this tutorial bringing in the rules a few at a time.
i want this now. been watching it for a while. now decided i need it
OK my wife and I love playing games and she was quite a D&D player in the day so she will love this.
this game look like a lot of fun, show me more
Totally enjoying these game plays, love how they just made it through by the skin of there teeth.
So do the states return to normal after passing the last door or does it carry through to the next scenario?
Get some dice with the pips coloured … pet hate of mine
Can’t wait to play as a mage. I run d&d group, so it’ll be nice to play co-op against the game with the ai cards.
Each and every thing that Isee on here to do with this game makes me want it more and more. This looks like it is going to be a very long lasting game that will see a lot of play time.
And with the potential growth with the expansion ‘Tomes’, and then the community creating, this could become a timeless game.
Excellent episode gents… seriously looking forward to the first proper level
Can’t wait for this now.
its looking good
Another great video, but its not making the wait any easier
Another great demo, can’t wait for the next adventure.
Can’t wait for the first adventure!
Now we are introduced to the character, lets start for real 🙂
Warren the Wiz and Justin the Just are unbeatable!! Not too sure how useful break the wind spell is though…..
Mantic really put a good package together for these starting scenarios
Good one guys, but meow the fun starts. On to bigger adventures with in the dungeon.
Well, the game looks fun and simple.
I’m so jazzed about this game!
Enjoyed this video too. I did however expect to see John and Lloyd in this video and then all 4 of the BoW presenters would meet up in the next videos and do some dungeon delving together. A miss opportunity, but perhaps space and the others time restraints played into that not happening. Oh well, still very enjoyable!
This one got homoerotic even faster.
Another great video.
I agree with @stusidle though: those clips don’t look like they do a great job of holding the tiles together. I probably wouldn’t bother with them.
And with theniffrig: be nice to see Lloyd and John involved in the action at some point. Probably not Johns bag though, unless Rich will let him proxy the wizard as a tank.
Another great video, hope we get some idea of when the kickstarter will ship soon
Ha ha Break Wind 😛
This game looks pretty cool.
Great show guys, realy funny
Looks good, you can send the prizes to holland, lol
No dress in character? Surely justin has a wig and warren has a staff!
Quality looking Dungeon Crawler – looks are great, minis are superb. More pls.
Backed this with all the expansions and loving the look of it! Mind you between this and KOW2 I’m not sure I’m going to have any free time at all.
This game can’t get here soon enough, have been anticipating it since the Kickstarter.
I’m sold! This is my next game purchase.
Great demo guys! Everyone’s getting into it now!
Really cool. I like the way it is unfolding. Not to mention Warren’s enthusiasm 🙂 Justin is also getting more and more involved in the fluff part.
So good going to have to get this.
Looks like the Wizard is quite squishy. So it is definitely a coop game…
Will the next one be posted today or tomorrow?
Damn, i really need this game. Really love the stuff Mantic releases this year.
I’m looking forward to a longer adventure … really enjoying this and my finger is hovering over the pre order button already!!
This game will rock used with Battle systems fantasy terrain or Dwarven Forge Sets.
I am so excited to get this game.
Gotta love a good old-fashioned dungeon crawler. Would be nice to have a copy of this (hint, hint).
Warren breaks like the ward…
This looks great
Can’t wait to see the Justin heads on the female elf body 🙂
Way to build the excitement. you have just about sold me on this game now. Not so sure about the clips but I do like the idea over the jigsaw approach for versatility.
Is really cool to play as a female player, specially if it is a 2 meters of pure muscle Avvarian barbarian with huge tendency for drink, screw up ANYONE in her path ( in way imaginable :3 ) and gambling for huge sums of money! I had a ton of fun playing that lady in Dragon Age’s RPG.
I’m really digging this game. Warren is great to watch!
Warren rolls as badly as I do. Lol.
I love how Warren is forcing the roleplay aspect.
Really looking forward to this, I’ve been looking for a new game to scratch that Heroquest/ Warhammer Quest itch!
Game looks amazing. Can’t wait to play.
This one makes it look like the later stuff could actually prove a challenge to the adventurers, I was honestly expecting it to be easier 😛
warrens’ enthusiasm and energy is infectious on a zombie apocalyptic level. Awesome
Love the look of this so far
Why turn that skeleton into stone? Better had cast it on the other warrior, which could/should have walked 4 steps and bash thise heroes and outnumber them. Good to hear only 1 overlord card can be played and not more such as is the case in descent. In descent the overlord can gather snd spend as much as he wants and can really bash and rush. That f…. up the game.
Feel sorry for the doors. Warrens either breaking them or inapropriate touching of them.
Just loving all the coverage of DS guys, your enthusiasm for the game is infectious!
For me, from now on, the spell will always be break wind 😀
More! I want more video! More adventure! Mahem and Magic in the Dungeon Saga!
Actually playing this game is going to be a let down. There is no way my group is going to muster all that roleplaying enthusiasm 🙂
I’m beginning to think that this may be the game that my other half may enjoy playing…other than zombies
I’m a little confused how these two introduction games would work if you actually had four (five counting the Overlord) players. Does the Overlord run both games in tandem? Or do you run one while the other players get familiar with or set up their part of the game?
Really like how different each character plays, but still is simple in terms of mechanically.
Looks like a great “go-to” game to be played during a week day with your friends after work. When you don’t have a whole night to play because everyone has to get up the next morning.
Well produced video…and more than the game I want that Man cave for my own.
Looks great, will have to pick this up.
I like that the wizard has spell classes and that spells take different times to recharge. Great mechanic. Where is the Loot?!!! No Shinies?! I love that the boards are objective based and that the deck is a time limit (round limit, whatever). If you lose sight of the objective you might not get done in time while merrily bashing away on the monsters.
Looking forward to seeing tougher enemies appear.
ahhh don’t know if I want to watch any more episodes! It will spoil the adventures when I eventually get this game!
From the east was brilliantly played out. More nail biting than the warrior and dwarf. Roll on for the dungeon.
You guys should do a “plog” playing this game all the way. It is really fun to watch
brilliant game.
I love the straightforward rules, so hopefully I can get the family playing
takes me back to my days of rpging, looks like a fun game to play may have to consider getting into this… but can i justify it??
Again a nice start. Looking forward to the continuing adventures.
Love it! That elf was screwed. Good job bait.
The KS campaign did not convince me actually, but these video make to give the Dungeon Saga a second thought. Might be a great little coop to play with my kids. Thanks guys!
Just awesome work Mantic! A must have for me!
I like the way spell casting works. Having to rotate the spell after use forces you to think about how you will use your spells. Very cool
Ok, will get this, just to have something my kids want to play! My 1/285 stuff don´t impress… =(
Amazing absolutely damned amazing.
This is what fantasy gaming is all about.
I can only say that this is it we are getting this game. We may not always have a dungeon master so we will roll to see who gets the honours first after that we will take alternate turns if we are missing the dungeon master.
If you people are not 100% getting into this game, then I do not know what will move yer!!!!
Should have had Lloyd and John play these 2 heroes.
Im full in the kickstarter but this is a game every gaming club should have in her collection.
Nasty Fireball! The mailman will be my hero when he delivers this.
What I really like about this game is the aspect the dungeon master is playing against the heroes, so he’s not only a story teller.
Magic looks cool. Can’t wait to get a copy. I’ll have to see if there is a FAQ or more information about the Wizards feat however. Seems to me if he can cast spells even if they are recharging he should be able to cast the same one more than once.
I’m actually loving the simple, pick-up nature of this compared to the time investment required for Myth… room for both in my life I think!
This is definitely growing on me. I enjoyed the simplicity of dwarf king’s hold and this obviously takes things on significantly. I’ve already bought into Descent; journeys in the dark, which is an awesome game. I will need some more convincing to switch to dks, but the scenery and the possibility of solo play does appeal very much.
I got in on this within the first few hours on kickstarter, I first got into the hobbie through might empires (remember that) but hero quest was what really got me hooked so I really can’t wait to get my mits on this. Could you ask the guys when the extras are getting release as I ordered all of them via kickstarter.
I asked Ronnie at GenCon 2015 if Dungeon Saga would be sold at Toy stores and he said that depends on how it does in the game and hobby market first. I think there is a good chance Dungeon Saga will go mainstream.
Wait? Once the doors open the skeletons just stand back and go:’well done, mates.”?
Shouldn’t you at least get out of the door?
Loving the reveiw
let’s play again! 😉
Break wind spell might explain the bruises under your robes.
cool!
a closer game this time, if it lasted much longer Warren would need a dog to translate what Justin was saying he was getting a bit desperate at the end?
Great show guys as always. Ronnie you are a God. Also hirst arts moulds sales are going to sky rocket by me!!!
Oh, I see. “feat”, not “feet”.
Makes more sense!
I think the phrase break wind and burn have been mentioned by Warren before this good looking game every came about.
Magic and ranged also simple and powerful. Really can’t wait for this to show up.
Warren is absolutely right this is just taking us all back to where it all began for so many of us. Love the game, love the concept, love Mantic games!
Although I have been playing wargames for years I have never played a proper dungeon crawler. What a lot I’ve missed
This game looks an absolute blast. Takes me back to my first games when growing up. Thanks guys for spending my money for me. My poor wallet.
I’m hoping there’s some cooler cards in the full overlord deck!
the minis arent too bad maybe little work
They look cool painted up.
Heroes:

Leveled-up heroes:
Minions:
Overlords:
I like to think that on Justin’s feat turn, the Elf ran down the narrow corridor and slid into the room, letting loose her arrows before coming to a stop. Then with a flick of her hair signalled that the door was clear.
Wizard and ranger/archer looks more interesting to play than barbarian/dwarf warrior. So there’s a distinct different feel in each of the characters, which is good. Pity we can’t see how the rest of the characters play, but this is the retail edition, not the KS.
Dwarf = tank
Barbarian = DPS
Elf = ranged DPS and cheeky nimbleness
Wizard = crowd control and fireworks
😉
The dwarf kills the skeletons the barbarian kills the the door
A few mistakes based on previous published rules. (This may have changed though if course).
1. Dungeon set up only goes to the next door. The heroes don’t get to know what’s next. Or even what door is the last one.
2. Raise dead is not in addition to his actions. Unless he uses a card. Instead of moving and acting one of the necros activations can be raising a pile of bones.
3. Not a mistake per se, but the necro also has a feat he can use, would have been nice to show.
4. They didn’t explain minor vs major spells very well. (Unless I missed it). 2 different minor spells per turn or 1 major.
5. You can’t use firebolt if you are engaged in combat (in an enemies front arc – they said this but then said you could still use it to blast in the face?)
Either rich was really unlucky or he hasn’t drawn any interrupt cards yet, or he has chosen not to play them. Which is fine but just made overlord look a bit weaker than they probably should. Granted these missions are meant to be skewed to the heroes.
Great videos though. Have really enjoyed them.
I can’t stop thinking of Justin’s long, wavy locks of golden hair
I cant wait for mine to arrive..and all the expansions…looks like great fun 😀
Ok Guys, Justin dude your dice rolls are crap. You need new dice, Warren think back to when you were young get your dam casting skills back. What the heck am I saying never did have a spell caster live long, always went for the fighter types. Great game guys , again need my kickstarter badly how long till they ship ?
Bring on adventure one!!
So, are board games the new skirmish….I certainly think so.
I have never been a dungeon crawler fan but this does look good.
I love the packaging, scenery looks good too.
Recently played Arcadia quest and enjoyed it, so might be worth trying dungeon saga.
Good job mantic and nice content bow
Very funny demo…
I am REALLY looking forward to Sunday’s game plays!
I think I would like playing the wizard. I like the magic system and it looks like he’s got some good spells to work with.
Oh who am I foolin’? I wanna play the bad guy!
Awesome, can’t wait for next vid
Do you absolutely have to put that caption in a place where you can’t close it? It’s right under the share button, and YouTube has priority!
This is exactly the type of game I am looking for, which will have the ability for my kids to have the same ‘introduction’ game that will stay in their minds.
The tiles do seem a little flimsy, but maybe on a table clothe the whole dungeon would move less. The game still looks good. I love these dungeon crawling games, it gets the imagination going and reminds me of all the fantasy books I have read over the years. Looking forward to the first “proper” quest.
My introduction into the hobby was Heroquest and Advsnced Heroquest. Dungeon Sago, like Warren is throwing me back to my youth.
With each video it’s climbing up the to buy list
Whole family is looking forward to this one 🙂
I think the mage is the best character, I like the idea of the wizard destroying the skeletons with his spells as they progress the dungeon.
Dungeon Saga needs to hit my gaming table, perfect fare for when the old DM brain needs a rest or a couple of guys essential to our campaign are otherwise engaged.
a much closer contest this time, if that was the second mission i think dungeon saga is going to get more brutal!!!
I love how Warren roleplays hahaha
About the clips, I’m not sure what I would have preferred, but I think the first we should all do is getting much cheap super glue and put glue on the edges, it will strengthen them a lot!!!
I just think it’s great to go for good old classic elves dwarfs and human
I you can cast spells that are recharging during your feat suggests that you can canst the same spell multiple times.
It’s now on the wish list 🙂
Much closer game this time.
Looks very interesting might be temper to pick this up
Dungeon crawling is like black, it never get’s out of fashion 🙂
Great game, I am really happy to have backed this in the Kickstarter.
I want this now! 😛
Am enjoying this. Now you tell me the elf is female. My daughter was so pleased.
loving this weekend :). love the mechanis and rp you guys are putting into this, i aint had this much fun since baldur’s gate came out on pc XD.
I think Rish is being very nice :oP… I am so excited about receiving my KS pledge on this…
Ok you did it again butstii skeleton remain in youre back !!
just love it , its looks like great fun, although im sure several pints of home brew would make it epic with the right crowd
Great looking game! 😀
I can see my wallet empty already ~_~
Drool…I want to play now!!!! Nice vids. Cheers.
can already imagine dungeons covering the dining table…
For me it reminds me to the old diablo game. Sorry was not so luck to get into dungeon delving at that age.
love the mage pose!!!
Another very entertaining adventure. The magic system is elegantly simple, just have to remember to “un-tap” at the end of your turn rather than the beginning of the next 🙂 However I would rather have seen the “Break Ward” spell ( @warzan – Break Wind lol) be an opposed roll against the door in the same manner as breaking the door in the previous episode. It becomes a waiting game as it is. Eventual, but no possibility of immediate. I suppose it adds to the tension as it is?
Really enjoying these videos!
Well, having never played a dungeon crawler board game, Im am now at the age of 31 finally sold, this looks brilliant. Already im thinking how im gonna paint the miniatures and the furniture, thinking of doing a reverse design on the doors, one side standard/armored the other, more ethereal looking to better represent the wards. Both me and my girlfriend love board games, and this would fit in just nicely.
I can’t wait to get this game. Hopefully my gaming group gets into it just as much as I am.
i like the simple game mechanics also with the ranged attacks.
but i think that the dungeontile are realy instable, maybe it is better if the connectors goes to the side and not between to tiles?
cu
caleum
It’s really a nice game, looking forward to the rest of the videos.
It feels a lot more claustrophobic than descent. Love the mor retricted movment rules. The fact that facing matters. Outnumber. Can be much more tactical but I hope that the heroes get mor options to attack than just the once per encounter feats.
Justin’s face is the star of the show
I love how into it Warren gets. That kind of energy always makes these kinds of games more fun.
I’m not sure about the clips either. Lots of little fiddly bits are usually not what I am looking for in a game. But I would give it a shot before passing judgement on it. I’ve seen people use the somewhat sticky/rubbery material used to line kitchen cabinet shelves so your glasses don’t move around to play games on so the tiles don’t slide around. That might work as an option to not use the clips.
The mini’s look great, they have put together a realy lovely game here, it does have that feel of a good dungeon crawler.
The more i watch the more i want
Time for Prodos to work their magic and give Justin’s head a female elf workover.
why is Justin always left back to do the dirty work?
And one more question
Do the miniatures fit to the kings of war game? because i think i like these skeletons more than the kings of war skeletons.
Maybe its just my idea.
These guys crack me up. Nice demo guys, I’m liking it.
This game looks great!
Great video!! I am getting very excited to get my hands on this game!!
Awesome \m/
This game is so open to people creating their own improvements. It’s great
Soooo many videos of dungeon crawling goodness
I really like those intro adventure. They seem to be a great start into the game
Wizard’s sleeve FTW!
Some good stuff!
Once again, i don’t want to ruin the surprise by watching too much, but its going to be so much coolness! Can’t wait for the doors alone!
Cool characters 🙂
I’d really like to try this game 🙂
The game system looks better and better. I’m looking forward to a play.
Awesome videos! very very funfull
I love the stories you guys are putting behind your characters. Proper roleplay 😀
Really cool game, nice demo guys.
I like how these introductory scenario’s are split into close combat and ranged attacks. You don’t often see a dungeon crawling party without any ‘tanky’ melee characters.
That looked much harder than the previous one!
Looks like this works great!
Great looking game and I like the play. Really looking at getting this for my game group
Warren, it wasn’t until you mentioned the flowing font that it brought back the memories of me printing out stuff from my Amiga 500 on my Epson FX-80 dot matrix printer. I remember printing out all kinds of D&D related stuff that I had written, in that font.
Loving the different flavours for each character and can see how team work is going to be important moving through the dungeon.
Really looking forward to receiving my box of Dungeon Saga!
Gameplay seems pretty straightforward.
Looking forward to playing this game – sorry, adventure
Definitely, jigsaw tiles all the way. However, I wonder if this was either a production cossst issue (it adds a border to each tile) or whether it’s so you’re not fixed on where you connect corridors to larger rooms, or where you interconnect corridors
Great job once again guys! I am so excited for DS to show up now, and I cannot wait for all of the expansions that Ronnie and the guys/gals at Mantic have in store for us.
I look forward to the rest
Hm… the game is harder then I expected it to be. This will make for some awesome evenings. I can´t wait for the winter month, when the wind is howling outside and the adventures step down into the dark and scary dungeon. Oh, man this will be great!
Hm, ranged attacks are awesome!
Some pretty sound tactics there Justin. You ought to give Shadowrun Chronicles a go! Every party needs at least one runner who knows what he’s doing 😉
This game looks so nice, I wonder if I’d bother painting the figures. After all, I was never able to paint my heroquest minis.
It’ll be interested to see how the advanced version plays!
