Kings of War Week: Ogres Faction Breakdown
October 30, 2013 by warzan
They're big, they're bad, they're coming to rock your world! It is, of course, the Ogres! These guys seem to be your big, nasty beat stick army for your Kings of war battles, but what will the guys make of them?

that ogre reminds me of the red orcs from wow, I like that
Now that you mention it, they really do have a WoW vibe, like the orcs in Nagrand(or whatever that place was… been a while.)
Entry 15! I think……. Most of them I love but some of them I think look a bit skinny, but hey, that’s just my opinion
i think braveheart style ogres in kilts would be cool.
Ogres in Kilts!!!
These guys just look awesome. I would have to go with different skin tones to just to add they extra bit of verity in my army.
They look great! I can’t wait to play.
I defenitly will be looking into the ogre berserkers and warlock for my Abyssal Dwarfs. I can see it now. Insane ogres with a bit of demonic power pecking out of them and a warlock with evil bits all over him. Love gonna do it. Sorry wallet.
One quick question. Will there be models for the ogre berserkers and warlock? And if so when will they be released?
Loving the coverage, too many choices of army.
KoW has really interesting take on ogres.
It’s big and brown and I be afraid of it
I’d love to see some GS bingo wings on the ogre auldfellas 🙂
Loving this coverage! I can hardly wait to get a starter set
I love this different type of take on ogres. I would love to see old ogres going out for one last battle with some sort of trophy bucket list. Indeed that would make a good story. This KoW week is shaping up to be really cool!
Just as a painting thought, try a blot of a darker brown, like bestial or darker still, and maybe gently PVA glue a few small static grass pieces painted brown. Liver spots for the ancient ogres.
Speaking of which, that’s an absolutely brilliant idea for an army.
For the more medically inclined, maybe some actinic or seborrheic keratoses, warts, and other stigmata of sitting around and aging like a fine wine.
briliant looking models!
Those ogres are brutal.
Highlander Orges… I’m intrigued!
Ogres look cool and promise to be devastating in melee
Definitely getting an army of these guys painted up!
Hmm, I’d like to see an allied Ogre/Dwarf army.
Taking warren’s idea you could remove the barrels from the goblin cart and fill it with trophies as a scenic piece behind the regiment. I could imagine that looking cool.
The Mantic ogres are some of the few ogre models I’ve seen which actually look dangerous. Plus no talkative donkey in sight.
trying to figure out how to do the Braves and or shaman. May need a bit of conversion work.
SIgn me up for some Ogres!
Was really liking these ogres after seeing the unboxing, now I am loving them. So many different directions they can be modeled with. With the nomad aspect, I am thinking about replacing chariot boars with something like war yaks and going Mongol. Also thinking they would look badass with Maori style tatooing. As I write this, I can also picture painting them paler with bluish tinges, breaking out the faux fur, and making a tundra clan. Yep, time to start budgeting in some hobby funds.
Love Warrens ideas for the Old-Uns – its making me think more about how I would do my Ogres!! definately going to have fun making a Shaman up (My LARP character is an Ogre Shaman, heh)
Perhaps one of your Geriatrics could have a Guide-Goblin!
the orks are always the best
I like how Warren can develop a story line and flesh out the army.
I’ve now got a mental image of Warren’s Ogre command group: The leader with a Zimmer Frame and ‘hearing’ trumpet, the standard bearer in a boadicea (bladed wheeled) wheel chair and a blind musician with a ‘guide-pig’. All being looked after by goblin nurses… what would an Ogre’s colostomy bag look like?
Really enjoying these break-downs, thanks guys… as usual.
I love the grizzled bucket list idea. I can picture old actors from several films that could portray them in the movie version lol.
Nice job. Points cost wise is a regiment of 6 ogres equivalent to say 40 orcs?
I should prolly download the free rulebook.
40 Orcs are 170 while 6 ogres are 190. Very close! Ogres hit just as hard and are faster with a smaller footprint so move around a bit easier while the Orcs can take a lot more damage.
very cool force
Doing my Ogres in Native American/Southwestern style. So, lots of silver and turquoise. I really like the fact that these Ogres are fit and look just the fighting machines that they are. My hobby side loves the fact that to make an army will not take nearly as long, too! Painting 30 Ogres is far cry from hundreds of Undead or Goblins.
Ogres in warpaint, definitely.
Great army
Cool. Love the exploding Goblin contraption there ,)
Sensitive Orcs… whatever next?
“Ugg – don’t mess me flarz. Take long time make nice!”
Duh – These are Ogres not Orcs.. Obviously they’re more sensitive!
Yet another great interesting video made.
Those rules seem really funny 🙂
Interesting army. Civilised ogres? Great background with lots of scope for personalisation. At the same time they can also be used in other armies..
Looks great! These Ogres are looking far more Ogrish than their GW cousins. . Nice, neat Mantic quality again… Although their models require lot of cleanups..
I’m interested in collecting Ogres over Dwarfs for KoW because the sculpts look brilliant. I want to paint them up as an Ice Tribe army with blue skin and light blue beards so they look like they have been carved from the ice.
BoW Ben
thats a great idea! you could give your Red Goblins thick woolen Scarves!!
Ogres in Kilts would rock! I currently have 2 units of 6 with my humans but will eventually have an entire army out to fill their bucket list 🙂
These guys sound awesome, I am an Ogre player from GW, and the ones from Kings of War sound way cooler and way more dynamic the GW’s.
Ogre chefs, out battling the grub that they’ll bring back and prepare for a feast.
With their chief, Gorgon Ramslay.
Great vid guys, I wasn’t thinking about it but I think I’m going to have to do up some Old grizzled ogres now as well.
looks good
Since these models were released, they have been my army of choice- took them to the recent Pathfinder Tourney in Stockport and had a blast (literally)! I went for a blue skinned, ‘frost giant’ look with Ogres riding wooly rhinos and a Captain on a Mammoth, counting them as Chariots!
I also have some sabre-toothed tigers that I use as Berserker Braves…
The best thing about KOW for me is the creativity it encourages, something these videos are definitely showcasing!
I like the different take on ogres, not just tall fat guys
The Mantic Ogres! are one of the best ogre models out there.
I love the idea of civilised ogres out on a bucket list journey. These are my kind of ogres.
“Hmm…I never killed a dragon before…” awesome words to say before a game 🙂 The ogres are superb. I like the idea of native tribesmen for the ogres. I would probably do war paints on all the models, with all the more elite and battle hardened warriors having more than the others.
I just have to get my hands on the Red Goblin Blaster. I love the idea of lighting the fuse of a wagon full of explosives and then running away as fast as you can. 🙂 …doh! It’s out of stock.
mhh… well thanks very much… -.- now I feel like I have to start an ogre army… love the idea of the old geezers… 😀 seems like I have to order the kings & legends book now…
Much nicer than GWs
Like these ogres alot
Red globlin blaster idea is amazing!
I do like the Ogre models
This is a TRUE ogre army not a bunch of eat all the pies guys
Think Ogres may be the way to go…
Liking the ogres a lot, but still not liking the goblin like creatures at all. No matter what, they just look too ugly in my opinion. Sorry.
Hippy ogres…… Love it
Or the Ogre Expendables, either works for me!
Best looking Ogres!!
I really like the nomadic nature of the ogres, waybe they need some warpaint and names more like big chief flying drake
Giant Uruk Hai Army 😀
I’m beginning to worry that Warren is going to have a brain haemorrhage with all his great/crazy ideas. Keep them coming.
Lovely looking minis, prefer these aggressive looking chaps compared to some other companies ‘chubbier’ take on them.
Love the sound of the Ogres, Im not playing any Mantic games right now but this sounds really really cool
Great looking figures. A nice small army (figure count).
didn’t like ogres in WFB and not to fussed with them in Kings of war….
Cool stuff! Also, if you want to change things around you could model one of the Ogres to be holding a two handed sword from the right hand across to the left. Cut and remove the left hand off the sword handle. Switch the right around to be holding the sword across the body. Add a bit of extra handle if you want. Use a spare open hand from the blunderbuss kit and put the blade of the sword in it. Should work hopefully with not too much work. Going to try this for myself to see if I can pull it off.
I think I would like the mantic ogres a lot better if they looked like something more than big orcs.
Hmmm, a bucket list Ogre army…. We’re puttin’ the band back together!
We’ve gotten old, and we’re are going for death and glory – death will come, but it will not take us easy. And we will have an honor guard in the afterlife!
These are excellent models, and I think that I now have my theme….
The Auld Grump
this was the breakdown i was waiting for and its made me love the idea of ogres all the more! definitely fancy an army of these just marching around maybe defending their home or as professional monster hunters! (cue silly hats and horns)
Ogres, Awesome! what world would be complete without Ogre Mercs.
Enjoyed the video. Still in the process of painting up my Ogre army for my first game.
http://azazelx.wordpress.com/2013/11/05/mantic-ogres-blunderbuss-and-crossbows-finished/
This could well be my favorite faction in this game. I’m thinking of a group of ‘Italian citystate’ style mercenaries, filthy rich and with all kinds of hangers-on surrounding them trying to gain some favor/protection.
While they look great, Ithink i prefer the ogres as allies than as a main army.
