Kings of War Week: Twilight Kin Faction Breakdown
October 31, 2013 by warzan
When normal Elves go evil they become Dark Elves. When Mantic Elves go properly evil they become Twilight Kin! Let's see what the guys have to say about one of the most insidious races in Kings of War.

I got a soft spot for some Dark Elves.
A female dominant army.
I really like this take on evil elves.
I think this is interesting. Love the idea of the evil living stone statue. Defiently will fit in Abyssal Dwarfs.
My only grip is that they need more models. Now I know that Mantic doesn’t mind conversions or using other models and all that. But I do like what they have come up with for most of the designs and would love to see them make more models to their range. And I know I would buy them.
I am in love with the hole idea of these guys. GW has managed to price me out of their games. So hello Kings of War.
Shame they are so close to GW. I know that was done on purpose so that people could use those models, but it just takes away from the game to be so copycat.
Kings of war prices are deff a very attractive factor
More demon worshipers to fall to dwarven steel
Eeeeeevil!!
nice models, abyssal dwarves+twilight kin=pure awesomness
Love these Ideas for the modeling. these are a cool enough take on the evil elf that i may want to do try an army, also they have dragons.
Nice minis. And looking a very good deal in the light of the Naughty Elf pricing from the other factory 🙂
The whole Abyssal background is great. The Dark Elves themselves seem to be lacking a bit of stuff on their own (xept for Bladedancers maybe).
evil elves
Brain hurt with to many ideas
Decision’s Decisions…..Mixed evil army of just all Twillight Kin Muuuhhha ha ha ha
Of all the evil armies I think these guys look the most interesting!
So many factions to choose between.
Cool idea with the Gargoyle.
looks good
all worship the dark side,am looking to starting a twilight kin army
I have always liked the idea of an elf civil war – Kings of war provides that with its elves. Makes the game even more attractive to me. Always did like the Kings of War elf models and having the potential to pit good versus evil elves is very appealing.
The Twilight Kin are one of Mantic’s more interesting model range, but they really need more attention.
While the concept of elves serving the forces of darkness is not new, the execution is very good. The concept of including some abyssal monsters gives great flexibility when it comes to modeling (whether they are fully otherworldly monsters or just some elven or even other mundane creatures with some corruption like spiky or tentacle-y bits) and customizing the army. Bloody well done, Mantic.
I agree with fereg, another good line of models from both the modelers and gamers point of view.
I really like the sorceress mini.
But, I think most of these dark elves are hybrid plastic/metal miniatures. So they are a bit more expensive than the standard troops, kind of like abyssal dwarfs, or skeleton archers.
I am planning on using these models for any extra dark elves I require when I decide to expand from 12,000points up to 15,000 :p I am very much looking forward to what you come up with models wise for Blade-dancers as well as all that Abyssal stuff.. The Large Abyssal Cav has my interest especially
Completely agree with mike, they’re awesome minis but really do need some love to replace the metal in their hybrid kits with restic (to hopefully bring the cost down) and they need some more of their list sculpted. I’d be keen to make an army of them if this happened.
Love twilight kin. Evil elves are always the best.
Building myself a TK army right now….. 🙂
Loving the Simulacrum Idea – really want you to do it so we can all see it!!
I dont think Twilight Kin and Abyssal Dwarves would make a good Alliance… The Kin would be annoyed that the Dwarves are ‘Slaving’ the Daemons while the Abyssal Dwarves would probably just see the Elves as a way to Chain even more Daemons!
I have always had a soft spot for Dark Elves and Kings of War has the best I have seen in a while!
The difference in quality between those two models in the preview is huge. One on the left looks fantsti the one on the right not so mcuh.
Somehow i still would pick a lighter force, however Gargoyles sound like fun. Close to Nature’s elementals.
Twilight Kin, huh? Must be fans of the Twilight series 😉
I love the evil elves so nasty.
The Twilight Kin army needs an army box! the other races have one. I think that’s my new army for kings of war!
I really like the ally feature of this game. It really allows you to mix and match and had some real flavor to your army.
Seems the Twilight Kin still have models to release. A shame as I was really keen to look into these. Nice fluff too,
The abyssal dwarfs and twilight kin alliance has interesting possibilities.
I do like the Twilight Kin better than the basic elven models. Good stuff.
I second the calls for the conversion to restic and proper army sets for them to make the easy to collect. They look lovely but the Elves are so small anyway not sure how successful metal and plastic is in this case.
Fantastic looking
Not bad, but needs a lot more figures in this range.
Nice models, but not the faction for me…btw – where’s Part 2 of the demo game!
& with Google’s new YouTube requirements to use a full Google profile to place comments I will not be posting on there any more 🙁
Cool design
Man those guys are cool! Especially those spears, and the sorceress. Gotta love the work on them, now just gotta save up to buy some. Any ideas if we are to see any more models for them???
Cool army.
The “good” elves
old geezers with daggers and cloak lol
they look cool,but elves!!!really i don’t think so……get some dwarf’s…..
I like the idea of the Twilight Kin. Hopefully there will be more models soon for this faction.
I dig the spearmen.
Interesting spin on evil elves, another nice army Mantic.
So many factions I want…
Now these elves are right up there for me as for looks. Well, kind of. I am going to head over to their site and take a look. 😀
nice looking miniatures
great background
love the twilight kin, especially since you remove a unit at a time it means I can stick a load of my cryx satyxis raiders and blood witched onto movement trays and as if by magic ive now got 4 units of evil blade dancers
This could be a very interesting army to play and to look at
Never been a big fan of Dark Elves but I wouldnt minds stealing some of the bigger units for an Abyssal Dwarf army!
Pretty cool. Still going regular Elves though. I think of the evil races the Undead look a lot more fun and have cooler models. Just an opinion though, Twilight Kin are pretty cool too!
Wow, another impressive display by Mantic. I also agree with ferg, while abyssal isnt new itself they fresh take Mantic uses really makes it feel unique. Good job!
I have to say that sorceress on the left in the still above is an awesome looking model.
These are pretty darned cool but I think the evil stunties steal the show for me!
I dont really see anything different from these models then I do from the Games Workshop Dark Elf models. Was this set designed to just be an alternate GW product?
Bad Elves, cool!
pfft dark elves!
The Twilight Kin are an army that I have faced but not played – the High Priestess is one of the best models that Mantic has created, lithe, deadly, and eeevil!
She is a great counterpoint to the elven Thinking Elves General – he is cold logical strategy, while she is reveling in the shedding of hot blood.
The battle against them was fun, and one of the few times that I have ever managed to flank with dwarfs. My girlfriend and I playing a large dwarf army versus a married couple that was running a combined Twilight Kin and Undead force.
We slaughtered them – without saying a thing to each other during the battle, just rolling out our plan, and unnerving the enemy. 🙂 That was my girlfriend’s first big win – she had the big block holding the center, I took the more mobile forces on the flanks – Rangers and Brock.
The twilight kin and the undead made the mistake of coming right up the center into the teeth of her cannon and gunline, crashed into the Ironclads, and then had brock and rangers come behind and to the flank….
*SQUISH!
The Auld Grump
hmmm now heres the elves I’d have… curses i was hoping to doge elves for once!
Nice review, i’m really enjoying these indepth looks at the different factions.
Nice models.
Evil as in Devil very nice!!
