Hola OTTers and COGs, and Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday,
Oh and to all you mothers out there you should treat yourselves to the GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE.
Great to see the grave golem I sent get loved again. I believe that the next army should be insectoid. Here is your inspiration in music video format (an anime music video cutting up the series El Hazard). Your earworm is served.

Thank you again! 🙂
When I held the bad boy up against the army and saw how well he matched in I just knew he had to be a part of it 🙂
Morning XLBSers.
Happy Sunday! Another way to balance a game @warzan when people bring everything they’ve got is to introduce a drafting mechanic. The game can then be balanced in the deployment stage and anything else can be a sideboard for reinforcements, or the scenario could involve achieving an objective before the larger army’s extra units arrive. The game is then more about the wizzarrds achieving their objectives while the battle rages around them. The asymmetry then creates your time limit for the weaker army to achieve the objective.
Superb idea. Fits with Chaos on the spectrum if you remember that?
There you go – another perfect video game to tabletop conversion!
You’ve also sparked another idea….could you have a skirmish game and a mass battle game all at the same time? Wheeling your rank and flank around a big battle, while small elite units compete for a series of small skirmish missions…. Now THAT would be a cool participation game. You can general the rank and file for a period of time, or battle over a skirmish objective….each influencing the flow of the other….ideas ideas!
Those Avatar ships will make great Billion Suns fighters
Try ointments @warzan ?
@warzan it’s so good to see you finish a project that you love. Epic minis and a great army. Glad to hear you’re still using the 2p bases are they the originals I made or have you evolved them in new and sexy ways?
I like the card activation. Maybe the opponent could pick a ‘poison card’ each time. So if you draw a 5 and choose higher your opponent names a card (8 of Spades) and if that card comes out you get punished.
Ohh mate your designs are still the beating heart of every army I do lol
I have added a couple of designs more recently like the dinner plate sized one the siege tower goes on lol
No Amazon still have both flyers folks at 9.40 any way.
@warzan don’t forget the Harry turtledove space lizards.
Good one guy’s.
You not stealing @avernos it’s a tribute to the rules.
@warzan should do the unboxing videos from now on..
A reverse mermaid/merman unit to go together with the reverse centaurs and then add a reverse minotaur as a centre piece creature…..
For an insect army, I recommend having a look at the story of the Myrmidons from Greek mythology and maybe do your own interpretation of that.
How about an activation system where you have a board with abilities and activations and you roll a certain amount of dice to see which units and abilities you can activate and if you activate units multiple times in the same turn they suffer some form of fatigue…. Just an idea….
Really good ideas there!
Sounds like SAGA!
? This is how we convert them over to the SAGA side….

Happy Sunday.
Wasn’t it Confessions Of, rather than Adventures Of? I’m sure I remember it as Confessions Of A Window Clean.
Three really nice Golden Button Winning projects there, even if they all have March on their Golden Buttons, lol.
@warzan For drawing cards I guess you could draw for every unit, guessing higher or lower (the first one is free) and for each time you get it right you get to activate another unit, if you get it wrong however maybe the unit you’ve nominated misses it’s turn that round and it’s now it’s the opponent’s turn.
As for shooting into combat you could make it a 50% chance to hit either side but if the archers have a +3 shooting score (for example) you could use that as a modifier. That way the more skilled archers have a higher chance hitting the enemy over their friends. Just some thoughts.
Yep it was Confessions of!!!!
Nice ideas on the card mechanics!
I’m thinking it would really be 50/50 who you would hit if shooting into combat. In reality i suspect you would kill more of your own troops as they would most likely have their backs facing “friendly” archers, but I still want to do if if i want 🙂
the level of deceit if horrific and soo relatable… 😐
It would be worth checking out Altar of Freedom and the Turn Clock idea. Basically a turn is random length determined by the player with the turn clock. You get influence points that activate your units but you can also use them to try and gain the initiative by controlling the clock which is a D10 or 20 set to a number.
You both have say 10 points. Player A puts three points into the clock, player B decides to only put one. A wins and those points are discarded. Players then assign points to units secretly with the highest going first, after each point level that is played (5,4,3,2,1 ect) both players roll a d6 and the time clock owner chooses which is subtracted.
Player A really wants to get two units into combat so puts four points on one and three on the other. Player B puts 2 points on three units and banks one point. The unit with 4 goes first and Player A wants to end the turn quickly so he wants to choose the two highest d6 to try and stop Player B getting a full activation with his units however if both player roll low then Player B’s entire force gets to activate while half of Player A’s doesn’t.
There’s mini actions units that don’t activate can do post turn clock and in your game it could be small moves, shooting at half strength and basic stuff but they can’t use special rules.
Altar of Freedom humm is this a rule set? I need to go a googling now 🙂
ACW rules I’ve got a copy to teach Shay with
There was an old SPI game where you were a US soldier in Vietnam and you accidentally get sucked into a time vortex and get transported to both the past and the future and fight the various historical/sci fi opponents while trying to get back to Vietnam.
There was a sci fi book series where some CIA mercenaries fighting in Africa get abducted by aliens and deposited on this world and told to conquer it to make it easier to produce an illegal drug the aliens sell. In this series the aliens came to earth during different time periods because the planet could only produce the drug every couple hundred years. So there were multiple cultures with distinctly different time periods and got scooped up and then deposited in this planet. There was a medieval culture, a Roman Empire culture and a bunch of others.
There was a completely different series where Union soldiers from the American Civil War were transported to a planet to fight the equivalent of Orcs.
“while trying to get back to Vietnam.”
Why would anyone want to get back to Nam 😉
Happy Sunday…
Happy Sunday and great show.
@warzan Apparently 3000 Chinese troops disappeared overnight into thin air during WW2. These could be the soldiers sucked into the future.
https://youtu.be/bQdKahDnRzs
I’m surprised there were no dick jokes with all the mentions of ‘suking off’… lol
We like to keep the show classy! 😉
Go from blood and plunder activation. This gives a poker like game within the wargame.
Great Show as ever. Warren that army looks amazing!!
The AI art is also phenomenal. What AI program do you use?
What about having actions on the cards? Say move, shoot, move and shoot, wild, rally. You get a hand of cards equal to the number of units you have and you choose from your hand a card for each unit (a unit may end up with an action it can’t do) placing it face down next to the unit. You’re opponent does the same and then all the cards are revealed. The unit with the highest number on their card activates first, then the next highest and so on. There can be suit priority for ties.
I’m sure I’ve stolen this from somewhere. Certainly part of it is Dead man’s hand.
Sorry hadn’t finished the video.
Hand size could be equal to the number of units that the larger army has and units can be given multiple action cards.
For magic – when the activation cards are face down next to units each player is dealt a number of cards per magic user both sides have on the table (3 per user?). These cards can be played to cast a spell during a magic users activation and can be blocked by the opponent playing a higher card or combination of cards from their hand (could include blocking by removing an inactivated units activation card as well?). The spells will also have a power cost to activate so the card or cards played must be greater than or equal to the cost. This is probably partly stolen from 4th ed Warhammer and 2nd ed 40k except you only got cards for your own figure and the power level.
Another variant of this is to deal the activation cards and magic cards at the same time and choose which to use for units and which to keep for magic.
Muskets and tomahawks has a great card based activation system that also gets rid of standard turns and creates a fun flowing game. One question about the great undead army. If you have ghosts that can walk through walls why do you need a siege tower
“If you have ghosts that can walk through walls why do you need a siege tower”
lol yeah @warzan what’s up with that!
Finally managed to watch this one, hah! Good show! And that was a good idea for a gaming mechanic, @warzan, and a good brainstorming session from you all.
