It’s the XLBS Show……..Happy Sunday fellow CoGs!
Welcome to Team OTT @free! I look forward to your articles and insights. 🙂
@warzan I have been buying the ‘LITKO Clear Miniature Bases’ for my Star Wars Legion figures. I went with them so that there is a little thickness for the measuring tools for Legion to work with. IF I was just using the minis for the RPG (hope @avernos didn’t hear that) I’d use your acetate material.
Love the AT43 stuff……I too have the Guerillas and use them with ‘DUST’
OH My! A look or wander thru the ‘@avernos Collection’. I’m smiling!!!
I’ve always loved that Space Marian Librarian. So much so that I have one for my Iron Fist Army. Well DONE @flatbattery
@denzien Those Indians look fantastic! Well painted. Do you know if they are about the same size as the “Dead Man’s Hand” miniatures?
@fourtytwo Very nice job on the Victory at Sea minis. Makes me remember back to my High School days when one of my close friends revealed that he and his dad carved mini ships at about 1/600 scale our of balsa wood. Then hand-painted them. They did put aircraft on the deck of the carriers, but they were just small bits of wood in a cross shape and just fiddled with a bit to pull off the effect. Your project brings me closer to buying into Victory at Sea. Dang, I wonder if my Financial adviser will ok me to buy into VaS along with all my other purchases? (see the Weekender to find out who my Financial adviser is if you are curious) 🙂
They might be slightly larger but I’d still use them
Thanks @templar007 it’s definitely the only librarian I’ve felt a genuine need for on first sight.
Also the first paint job I’ve been 100% happy with.
Would love to see your Iron Fist one.
Thanks! I can only encourage you to dive into WW2 Naval Wargaming. As for the ships – since I magnetized my own, My fleet is system-agnostic. I can use them as they are, or effortlessly put a base beneath them without having to attach it permanently.
There are many great systems out there – VaS seems to be cool easy system with enough particular elements of naval combat in WW2; I’m currently zeroing in on Naval Thunder.
Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday!
Warren, you sure about your SW name?
“Been a long week and the wife’s taken the kids to the shops and will be at least a couple of hours, time for a quick ‘ham solo’!”
Sorry mate…
lol
Happy Sunday
Some well earned Golden Buttons this week. Great job guys!
@lloyd.. i suppose you could say the guy cutting up arses was trying to show how they work, be instead he rectum… ?
ba dum tish
@avernos rest your mind at ease – WOTC didn’t JUST put a random assortment of minis on those square bases. It was specifically for the set that tied into that years anniversary of the release of A New Hope. So it was like 60 minis total across all factions. Annoyingly that means the likes of Biggs, Luke Jedi Knight, Mara Jade and others all look different to how the rest are based. Wouldn’t be quite so bad, except some of the minis from this set were the best versions of them….
(And gotta say, for all the ruelset was kinda an awkward fit to the Galaxy Far Far Away, the books for the D20 version of the Star Wars RPG are quite lovely. I’ve got all of them knocking around here and the Saga Edition books, with their unique square layout, are particularly lovely, what with having books dedicated to eras like Knights of the Old Republic and the far off future of the Legacy comics…)
* Master Kota was from the Force Unleashed, and could be used in Republic & Rebel forces.
* Imperial Knights are from the Legacy comic books, set 145 years after Return of the Jedi, and combined the looks of Vader (the quilted bodysuit & armour) with Royal Guards (for red armour) with funky white/silver-bladed lightsabres (this was from a time when the Empire was something markedly different to the version from the films, and the Knights were it’s own state-sanctioned version of Jedi, tasked with both acting as agents of the ruling Emperors and keeping them honest)
Honestly though, the WOTC minis came at a fantastic time – Dark Horse and the book publishers were cranking out a phenomenal amount of product that provided the game designers a ready source of material to adapt for the tabletop. I still love that Dark Forces poster-boy Kyle Katarn got multiple versions
I’ve read Legacy when it came out but not since then, even though I played FU I couldn’t remember him existing although when I found Proxy in the box later I did remember his existence. I hear Darth Talon may be coming to Disney+ as Fiege and Favreau are bringing back expanded universe things that they like and appear to have ignored the idea that these things no longer exist. So that could be interesting.
Yeah, the biggest knock against FU is that the characters are, essentially, pretty forgettable. It did give Sam Whitwer an in to Lucasfilm so we ended up with his astounding vocal performance of Maul across Clone Wars & Rebels.
And I remember something years ago about how Lucas “loved” the design for Darth Talon but just couldn’t figure out how to fit her in (Honestly? If they could find a way to reintergrate bits of Legacy like the Fel Empire and the One Sith I would be down with that). They were quite upfront back when the old EU became Legends that they would not be averse to bringing back elements of Legends if they could make them fit within the ongoing canon that was being built. And Favreau & Filoni have generated considerable goodwill by showing that they are more than game to play with all the toys at their disposal…
I have pretty much all of the books also, can’t fault the production even if the rules didn’t work as well as the original RPG. Saga was moderately better as it added wound levels
@warzan.. for the wreak model, why not put a small clear base on each foot, instead of one big base
Briefly (*looking at warren*) you keep using that word, I don’t think it means what you think it means
Yay it’s the XLBS lunacy show folks.
Great work on your figures @warzan
It’s not that nutty German Dr? @lloyd
Who wouldnt have wanted to wipe down the princess?
Gerry said square bases are horrible! We all heard it! (around 31-32 mins in)
New show idea that could go on for hundreds of screen hours and take no real effort: “Whats in Gerry’s attic?”
those bases were, jarringly bigger, titled, pointless, thankfully I have all of those square based versions on rounds so internal consistency can be maintained.
They did look like weird plinths and not game bases.
20.20 was a world gap year Gerry?
Crap tars is what their using on the roads nowadays.
A new insect bug faction. @warzan
The wonderful adventures of Gerrys cupboards?
We’ll see Gerry get the flashy thing out if he holds the curtain back?
A fab show a stunning project gold button winner’s guy’s
4 days in the dettol and the paint did not shift off my four WotC test models. Not sure what they were painted with but it’s on for good, which at least stops me from stripping and repainting and forces me to just wash and touch up instead.
This was a tightly scripted 30 minutes just like the uHH XD
“Whats behind the curtain?” should be a recurring guest feature where a team member, usually Gerry, pulls some old and forgotten thing out of storage to reminisce on how things used to be.
Could Jerry. Do a can on Werrens transparent base.
Strong Ralph Wiggum Star Wars show and tell vibes from this episode. Not a complaint!
I’m in danger!
Lovely Star Wars show guys, and a nice show and tell from @warzan and @avernos. For the next XLBS, it’ll be @brennon and @lloyd with there show and tell. Wonder what they’ll show us ?.
@warzan, you said you have to many projects to do and your not sure where to start. Maybe you should let the CoGs decide for you, you could put up what you have in a pole and let us vote. You can then start with the top score, and work your way down to the lowest. In this way you will have a list to follow, and projects getting done.
Some well deserved golden buttons today, I especially like the Librarian great paint work. Very well done @flatbattery, you earned it.
I was already made aware of @denzien ‘s indians in the Unofficial Hobby Hangout – great stuff. The paint job on the Librarian, especially the camouflage, is superb, @flatbattery.
@warzan: I also painted my WotC Star Wars minis back in the day. Since their original paint is some kind of enamel which bites very hard into the soft rubbery plastic, I varnished mine to protect the paint job from wearing off. After a few months, most of them became very glossy and felt sticky to the touch. It seems that some kind of softener used in the plastic came through the paint and mixed with it, which resulted in the greasy-looking gloss sheen and stickyness.
I don’t know if anyone else had experiences like that with these minis, I just want to bring it up as a cautionary tale.
great star wars collection, nuf said
Oh the Star Wars figures, one of the old guys who used to come to club, used to use them for 7TV.
Fairly sure there were camo-marines back in the days of Rogue Trader, and as far as I’m aware, in the fluff to still canon that camouflage is part of the Codex Astartes. It’s just that almost no one paints them with it because that doing so would mean they dont get to paint the pretty heraldry colour schemes.
