Helsmiths Of Hashut Revealed! Chaos Dwarfs For Age Of Sigmar
July 21, 2025 by brennon
The big reveal from last week's Warhammer Preview was the introduction of the long-awaited Chaos Dwarfs from The-World-That-Was, making their way into The Mortal Realms and Warhammer Age of Sigmar! The Helsmiths of Hashut are stirring from their foundries and forges with a new Army Set and more.
War Despot // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
Leading the way for the Army Set (which we'll focus on first), we have the War Despot, who is one of your powerful new leaders. A lot of the traditional Chaos Dwarf aesthetic has carried over from Warhammer to Age of Sigmar, including big hats, tusks and those Babylonian-esque beards.
The majority of your Helsmiths force is going to be made up of these folks, the Infernal Cohort. They can be armed with broad blades like the ones that you see here or spears if you prefer.
Infernal Cohort // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
The Infernal Cohort are fearsome, elite infantry for the Helsmiths and the set comes with options for your Champion, bare-chested musician and standard bearer as well as a poor Hobgrot carrying a gong. This also showcases the weapons used by the Zharrdron (their new name), which are powered by daemonic essence that they have captured in those glowing green globes.
If you collected Chaos Dwarfs in the past, then you'll be familiar with their artillery that they often dragged to the battlefield. This trend continues here with the likes of the Tormentor Bombard, which is included as part of the Army Set for the Helsmiths.

Showing deference to Hashut and the Bullfather, the Helsmiths of Hashut can also call on this infernal machine, the Dominator Engine. This can be armed with some devastating cannons or you can give it daemonically infused melee weapons and unleash it on the front lines of the enemy army.

All of these miniatures will come as part of the new Helsmiths of Hashut Army Set, which will lead the way for this new army in Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The set also introduces the Battletome for the first time alongside a set of Warscroll cards and more.

That was quite a lot of Helsmiths of Hashut but that wasn't all that Games Workshop had to show off. Normally, we'd get a peek at the Army Set and then have to wait for more but Games Workshop also revealed the rest of the Helsmiths collection that you'll be able to get at launch and shortly after.
Even More Characters!
We shall get a peek at more of the characters coming to the Helsmiths of Hashut, starting with the cackling Daemonsmith.
Daemonsmith // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
Masters of the daemonic power that the Helsmiths have been able to harness, the Daemonsmith can hurl infernal flames at his foes or heal your war engines so that they can continue to pound the battlefield from afar.
As well as sorcerers and spellcasters, the Helsmiths also have their own priests. They come in the form of the Ashen Elders who work the rituals of the Bullfather, drawing power from the earth.
Ashen Elder // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
Fun fact: the Ashen Elder is one of the only of his kind to carry a hammer (which they dislike since it reminds them of the other Duardin). They make up for this heresy by carrying a hammer that has been dipped in the blood of other Duardin. Lovely.
It wouldn't be a mighty new army without a special character. Urak Taar, The First Daemonsmith, is going to be leading the charge from the back of his terrifying Infernal Taurus.

He is said to have studied under the Bullfather himself and been given access to incredible power. Much like with others of his kind, that power has now started to manifest on his form as his body starts to petrify magically. He will continue to sow ruin and madness until his time runs out, riding around on the back of Ghorrakos.
This character set can also be built as the Daemonsmith on Infernal Taurus if you'd prefer to make your own character and tell your own stories in The Mortal Realms.

Options in the kit allow you to build this Daemonsmith as either a male or female character and you also get plenty of bits and bobs for customising your Infernal Taurus.
More Troops, Monsters & War Machines!
As if that wasn't enough, there are also loads of new troops coming out to bulk out your Helsmiths of Hashut forces.
Infernal Razers // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
The Infernal Razers are armed with either Grizmalok blunderbusses or Karagthrun flamehurlers. This is another powerful, elite unit that comes as a set of five as standard. I like that they mirror the old Irondrakes of the Warhammer Fantasy Battles Dwarfs.
Talking of classic inspiration, whilst the Chaos Dwarfs of old would have relied on Hobgoblins, the Helsmiths of Hashut call on their Mortal Realms equivalent, the Hobgrot Vandalz.
Hobgrot Vandalz // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
These are sneaky, cunning and prone to backstabbing everyone. You will have seen Hobgrots already amongst the ranks of the Kruleboys, armed with weaponry that had been forged by the Helsmiths of Hashut. Now, they swell the ranks of their masters and do the dirty work!
Awesome Bull Centaurs also make their way into The Mortal Realms. Blessed by Hashut, they charge into the enemy ranks, trampling those unworthy of the Bullfather's gaze.
Bull Centaurs // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
These Bull Centaurs can also be built as the Anointed Sentinels who guard the shrines and (un)holy places of the Helsmiths. The Bull Centaurs are an attacking-focused unit, whilst the Anointed Sentinels focus more on defensive duties.

Last but not least, we have another impressive war machine that the Helsmiths can wheel out of their factories. The Deathshrieker Rocket Battery will do exactly what it says on the tin, hammering the enemy from range.

This can be built using the same kit that we saw in the Army Set for the Tormentor Bombard. Simply choose which way you'd prefer to destroy your enemies and then go for it.
With all of those new miniature previews, what do you think of the Helsmiths of Hashut? I really like their characters and their troops. Some of their big monsters and war machines do look a little toylike but that's simply because of the way Games Workshop paint their miniatures. I will wait to see how others in the community approach adding their own personal touch to these figures before I judge!
Are you going to be picking up the Helsmiths of Hashut?

So
Many
Hats
But seriously a welcome return, and in style
So.Many.BIG.Hats – even better
Hats could be taller. Way taller!
Well, there goes another pile of money. Loved Chaos Dwarfs back in 4th/5th, these do them justice nicely.
I really want to like them, but they seem to me to be more of a glow up of Mantic’s Abyssal Dwarfs rather than the old school GW Chaos Dwarfs.
I definitely think they’ll look better with a different paint job. I think my favourite part of this release is the hobgrots…I hope we get some with bows at some point as, with a bit of conversion, they’d make a cool orc warband for other games.
They’ve dropped an L
or is this because they can’t trademark ‘Hell smith’ when spelled correctly ?
I think these are excellent. I think they got the aesthetic just right: if Dwarfs go Chaos, they do it properly. None of this Skaven ramshackle nonsense!
