Planet Shark might be the cutest game and miniatures range that I've seen in a while. Built out of a partnership between Taiga Miniatures and artist Spectralidax (Scott Knees), this is a full range of both digital and physical miniatures, PLUS a Sci-Fi skirmish wargame that you can play!

Planet Shark - Taiga Miniatures

To dive into the world of Planet Shark, we have to give you some fun lore for these cute killers!

"Planet Shark was once a gleaming oasis of clear blue water until the galactic alien council began dumping all kinds of trash on the supposedly uninhabited planet. The planet grew into a dumping ground for outdated and decommissioned military hardware as well as other trash.

The unknown Sharkanoid inhabitants of the planet were very upset that their home had become a dumping ground and cried for vengeance against the uncaring Galactic Alien Council. Your goal is to rise up out of your sullied home, create weapons of war, destroy your rivals, and seat yourself as the head of the Vendetta Force against the Galactic Alien Council."

At its heart, this Kickstarter is looking to get you sorted with ALL of the miniatures that you might need for playing your games of Planet Shark. As mentioned above, you can either pledge for 3D printable STL files, OR you can get physical figures sent your way from Taiga Miniatures.

These miniatures then form the basis of your Planet Shark "Shiver" (your gang/warband), which you'll send into battle. Games use d10 dice and are played out on a small, 3x3-foot battlefield, which is packed with terrain. You are encouraged to make up your own scenarios but the core scenario is the Scrap Run, where your Sharkanoids are looking to take loot and turn it into military hardware!

Additionally, Planet Shark is also a campaign-based game where your warband of little Sharkanoids will grow and change over the course of your games! They can get injured, earn honours and maybe acquire better technology to use during their next battles!

The rules for Planet Shark are actually available right now for you to pick up. You can download the Planet Shark Rulebook and get stuck into playtesting the game to see if it's for you whilst the Kickstarter is still going on.

Additionally, you can get your hands on some test miniatures to 3D print from the Kickstarter, their Discord and over on the Planet Shark Website. The current range of options available for free should give you some ways to paint up the first Bulls and Pups for your Sharkanoid Shiver but you will also find a whole host of miniatures as part of the campaign that can be used to represent your Veterans and in different styles.

Veteran Sharks - Planet Shark

There are no specific, thematic Shivers available as part of the core rules for Planet Shark and so that's where you can go wild and work out where you're going to take your inspiration.

Sharktan Tribes - Planet Shark

To that end, Taiga Miniatures has worked with Spectralidax to create a range of different Sharkanoids that could be used to individualise your Planet Shark collection. Maybe you go down the route of turning your Sharkanoids into Post-Apocalyptic Spartans?

Primarl Sharks - Planet Shark

Primal Sharks // Planet Shark

Maybe you go down the Primal Root and turn your warband of Sharkanoids into a collection of Techno-Barbarians? You really do have all manner of fun ways for you to tweak and change your warband of Sharkanoids to match the aesthetic that you want.

Rocket Gladiators - Planet Shark

All of these miniatures also come with loads of different weapon options because you can also really go granular on what your Sharkanoids are armed with! You can go seriously deep with this little collection of miniatures!

If you're looking for a fun range of miniatures to collect and paint, plus a great game that you can play with them without breaking the bank, Planet Shark might actually be what you've been looking for!

Add-Ons & More

As well as the core Sharkanoids, you can also get a whole bunch of different Add-Ons. This includes terrain but also some towering mechs that you can use to even the playing fields during your games of Planet Shark!

Dread Mech - Planet Shark

Again, these miniatures have been designed so you can theme your particular Shiver to a certain aesthetic. This is by no means all of the new stuff that Taiga Miniatures has added into the mix for Planet Shark and there is much more to come down the pipeline as the campaign continues to grow.

Painting Competition!

It would be remiss of me to note that Taiga Miniatures are also running a painting competition right now over on the Planet Shark website. Simply download one of the free miniatures that we mentioned above and paint it up, sharing it on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #taigapaintingcontest.

You have until 23rd September 2025 to get your entries in and three winners will get their hands on a full project set from Planet Shark (either as STL files or physical miniatures).
