The Web-Head Spider-Man To Rejoin The Avengers In New Movie Deal
February 10, 2015 by brennon
The news is out that Marvel's Spider-Man IS going to rejoin his buddies like Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor with a new deal being announced between Sony and Disney where they share the friendly neighbourhood superhero...
The earliest we could see Spider-Man pop up is in the upcoming Captain America film, Civil War. It would make sense for the web-slinger to pop up there at the beginning of a big new story arch and then maybe he'll continue to appear in Avenger movies from then on.
I think it's great that the studios are prepared to share the intellectual property even though this does throw the future of Andrew Garfield as the masked hero into disarray. I think he was a pretty great Spider-Man and Peter Parker in the original reboot after the terrible Toby Maguire outings. It's just a shame that the second film in his repertoire suffered from the same problems the last Maguire film did. Too many villains and a mishmashed storyline.
So look out for Spider-Man to appear in the next Captain America movie, hopefully, and then a possible re-boot of the re-boot from Sony over the next few years too. It's either that or they just stick to the Sinister Six and use that to push the franchise on and forget the reboot entirely, carrying on with the Garfield story.
I think it would be awesome to see how Spider-Man fits into the Avengers films and I still remember his quips in the awesome Marvel Ultimate Alliance video games, an awesome thing to see them all together on screen.
What do you think of the news true believers?

Although I have never cared for Spidey I do recognise his importance in Civil War. Now if only Disney and FOX could come to a similar arrangement with X-Men..
I don’t think that’s ever going to be on the cards now. Besides the movie probably won’t take the same route as the comics, after all it was a mutant blowing up a town that started civil war in the first place, and it was after years of character development in cap-becoming disillusioned with the government and starting to do what’s right over what’s legal- and Iron man – growing up, learning to be an authority figure instead of just complaining about them.- that we just haven’t had time for in the movies.
Nitro was a mutate
the lack of Mutants in Marvel studio movies really does hurt the franchise likewise Agents of shield
Which is why Agents are getting the Inhumans , and we get an Inhuman film.
“The terrible Toby Maguire movie”.
Seriously?
I’ve always thought he made a great Spiderman – and that Sam Raimi nailed the web-slinger.
Nah not a fan at all. I found him to be a bit of a whiny Peter Parker and his Spider-Man wasn’t wise cracking enough – personal preference of course but I though Garfield was much better.
BoW Ben
I thought both were fine, and Spider-Man 2 is one of the finest superhero movies ever made.
Has to be Garfield.. Emo Peter Parker ruined anything image of Toby being Spider-Man again lol
I’m in the ‘Like Toby Maguire’ camp with @carlosfandango 🙂
Really liked his approach to the role!
I think they should keep Garfield on as Spider-Man, keep a bit of continuity. He didn’t do a bad job and his acting at the end of AS2 with ****SPOLIER ALERT**** Gwen’s death was heart breaking stuff.
the Garfield movies are utter shite (sorry, I simply couldn’t find something polite to say about this tripe), and Garfield himself in them plays the exact opposite of Spiderman : he’s stupid where Peter Parker is a boy genius, he can’t use big words whereas Peter Parker was completely articulate, uncouth wherereas PP is mild mannered, his “humor” is heavy-handed and crass where spidey’s was witty… I think it’s something between a 80’s Eddie Murphy role and a bad Woody Allen character. But Garfield can only play what he’s given.
Yeah agreed, there were a very few times in the first one where I felt “wow that’s spider-man!” but most of it was bad writing. I think he was a decent Spider-man, but a bad PP. I hope they go with the Miles Morales Spider-man. I also hope they stop doing origin stories. Uncle Ben can only die so many times…
In my opinion the Maguire films were a great pair of movies, while the new ones… weren’t. However, I think Garfield was the better Spider-Man and I’m sorry to see him leave the role.
Which Maguire movie are we pretending doesn’t exist?
Lol, we’re not pretending one doesn’t exist – it’d be a pretty crappy duo-logy if we did!
There were three Maguire movies.
Damn Toby Maguire sucked.
I think the thing that annoyed me the most with the Maguire movies was the total departure from the comic with his web coming out of his actual wrists as opposed to using equipment.
Unfortunately, there were THREE Maguire movies. You are mentally blocking at least one of them out. And it is probably the third one.
surely there will be 2 different Spider-Man’s now, one for soni and one for Disney.. They are in the middle of makeup no the amazing Spider-Man 3 right?
I’m pretty sure that Amazing Spider-Man 3 was canned a few months back after the second performed poorly at the box office.
Nice to know they had faith in what they were doing!
So maybe someday we will see Spider-Man part of Avengers.
Spider-Man 2 is still my all time favorite Spider-Man movie and easily highlight of three directed by Raimi. I did like first one as well but not as much as second one while third one was mess. I found ASM1 to be okay while ASM2 was as much mess as SM3.
I thought the Amazing Spiderman 2 was a fantastic movie. The villains aren’t really thrown in as Green Goblin is only in the end. The problem people have is that Amazing Spiderman 2 was a very different tone to your usual superhero movie, it played heavily on the romantic aspect and not trivially, but as a vital part of the character’s arc. Tis paid off as I am ignorant of spiderman and my jaw dropped when *the bad thing* happened at the end. If you are not up for this sort story telling i.e. mixing it with a genuine romantic… Read more »
I enjoyed it too, shame just found out there not making a third lol
huge news.
after the new FF movie tanks I expect they will also be sharable.
and then 2-3 years down the road the X-men too.
you don’t mess with Disney. They have boys and girls markets locked.
The best Spiderman was Nicholas Hammond 😉
There is one Spider-man that not many know about, Japanese Spider-Man. He fights Professor Monster and Iron Cross Army with his Giant Robot from Planet Spider in order to get revenge for his father and to protect Earth. So yeah, it’s monster of the week Tokusatsu series with Spider-man as hero.
Yep seen it, and it is glorious
You better not forget Italian Spiderman as well!
The first one with Maguire wasn’t that bad. The second was okay, the third was… well that whole Spidey dance scene? I wish I could “un-see” that.
The Garfield reboot was youthful energy with none of the teen angst. I think the second fell a little short and everyone who knows the spidey mythos knew Gwen’s death was coming.
I’ve read Ultimate Spider-Man, but I hate Miles Morales. I think they should just shelve the franchise for awhile.
I knew this day would come as Sony needs the money from this title and one way to do that is hand it over to a more fruitful franchise and get a slice of the pie. Sony doesn’t have to do anything, just loan out the name, image and perhaps get people reinterested in the spider via others (Marvel Studios) efforts.
Spiderman 2 is one of the greatest comic book heroes ever made.
Amazing Spiderman 1 + 2 are solid comic book movies with twist or two. I hope they continue with the work they’ve made.
Spiderman 1… overrated imo. Spiderman 3 is an abomination.
